No. She would not do that (even if she could afford it), as it would not protect the boat as well as bitumen paint does.

I think it is either a mistake when listing or a place-saver when out of stock.

There are areas on the canal system where you do not want to go (especially in a gold plated vessel!). For example, if you moor up in Kings Norton it is possible that, the following morning, you will either find that you are not in the same place (mooring lines either cast or cut loose), or you have a different paint scheme than you had the previous evening (and of the sort you quickly obliterate!).

There are other concerns. Mum often recounts a tale (where Nature took a hand) when she was cruising, and there was a tight turn up ahead. Unfortunately there were a gang of yobs before that turn. They had spotted her, and armed themselves with stones and bricks. Mum, being fairly astute, quickly grabbed her camera, and got it lined up and ready (and this made them pause). However, she knew she would have to look away to make the turn (she kept quickly glancing bow-wards and back). When she did look away for the turn (had to be a longer glance, as she started the turn), she heard an unusual sequences of noises. There was a strange thwack, followed by a thumping noise, and a cry of pain. When she looked round, there was one youth, lying on the ground, struggling to catch his breath (and his mates were standing over him). There was also a branch that was swaying, despite there being no breeze. As far as Mum could tell, this yob (or a mate) had thrown his projectile, which then firmly hit a branch, and the branch (not appreciating being assaulted) returned the projectile to sender.

Absolutely I normally don't read the Register as I find their style rather hysterical and a bit odd but that was a good one...

It's a shame it's still not in full use. I remember well when it was taken out of service. At least it was not destroyed...

Very absorbing and rather interesting too... I've not been able to put it down so far...

I have some other reading material now following a rather delightful visit from James (Hellrazor) the other day. One of his mum's books and something else. I'll report on those in due course but both are very good potential members of the PE library
