One of those, "What are the chances of that happening" FCF moment........There's an original picture, a car, a place that only those with a specialist interest will seek out......yes 10 out of 10 for that, and I'm giving myself 9 for bothering to put up a picture of a golf ball to start the random link going. Yes and James can have 10 as well for his random information about Tweedsmuir and its famous author.

Well I hope the general public have got the name of the author from Tweedmuir now with all these references.

So why is that Remote Radar Head called what it is called. Presumably because a short kick in the pants away is a small village, and this coastal phenonemon nearby named both named......"the B of B"

The statue is called "Sentinel". Now if like me you google "Sentinel Island" you will find a fascinating island where the natives are refreshingly hostile to visitors from the "developed world" and have lived in splendid isolation since time began and have an impenetrable language. Of course attempts have been made to "study" them mostly thankfully ending in disaster amongst a flurry of arrows and spears and rejection of "gifts" deposited to attempt to make contact.

There is another Spitfire Island up here, but you may have to get lost around THornaby to find it

A452/A47 juncion near oops, Castle Bromwich IIRC.

Used to pass it fairly regularly on my way to purchase spares from GSF for my Xantia! Haven't been even close since 2007!

i'd forgotten it was the A47 there. just Google mapped it and it sort of disappears into B road from Spitfire island to Nuneaton after the M42 was built. i only think of the A47 as Peterborough and beyond to the coast.
the first part of Castle Vale estate opposite GSF, one section the roads are well known Aviation names, Hurricane, Sopwith, Concorde etc

seems to have been a similar naming policy over at Thornaby as well then?

Yes "lost" on Teeside in unfamiliar territory in the early evening busy road darkness!

Took a wrong turning but ended up passing this Spitfire replica on a roundabout and a school named "Bader Primary" on the adjacent road.

Now thats far too much intrigue not to look it up!

Turns out the school was built on the site of Thornaby Aerodrome, and Sir Douglas and Lady Joan Bader opened the school in 1971.

I take it that must have been the 4 litre"R" Peter.....found a video of the 3-litre, and this particular one sounds like a bag of hammers on start up! Durham reg (UP).

I don't remember the exact model, it was a Westminster of some sort but of course it was a lot newer then. It was the first time I had seen the 6 cylinder engine although I was well familiar with the 'A' and 'B' series.
