Back in the day the boss of a neighbouring battery business came in and told us he'd bought, for a ridiculously low price a brand new Renault Dauphine, he later brought it round to show it off.

One of my mechanics said "I've seen that car before." Couldn't have, it's straight from the London showroom." said the guy.

My mechanic got out his copy of a motor magazine and there on the front page was this exact car, far from being brand new it was the one handed to the trade press and beaten to death in all their reporting and testing. :(
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

I-Spy Classic Cars-What have you spotted?

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Turning a bit Autumnal here, bit of a chill in evening air, but the open-topage die hards still at it.

Spotted a black Jaguar XK140 tonight. Northumberland car as well although, originally delivered to Santa Monica California if the XKdata.com records are up to date.

http://www.xkdata.com/cars/detail/?car= ... istory=yes

Nice colours gallery too :-D

Passed rather too quickly for details but something very Austin ten-ish in black with a large bonnet ornament that could have been a Mercedes star.
Durham road, Barley Mow.

classiccarcatalogue.com is an excellent site for the classic car spotter. So from 1934 we have the Mercedes 170 which I imagine is prettty rare on the roads of Birtley!

Told you the Bedford VAL was quite a movie star...here's another one from the 60's with an Austin Westminster getting in the scene.

The closest I have come to owning a VW so far has been a salvaged roadside chromium hub cap, like the ones on this absolutely gorgeous Beetle.

Between Tournai and Namur earlier I saw 2 x DS together, and half an hour later another one.

I was a bit disappointed they seemed to be doing only about 45 mph. OK the weather was pretty rough, but it seems a bit overprotective and underusing it to me, passing by at 75 in a Xantia, towing.

A couple of weeks ago, also abroad, I looked in the mirror and was starting to think that's the only other Xantia I've seen. As it got closer then hurtled past at about 85 (that's more like using it) it turned out to be an XM.
