Anyone spotted a Kit Car?

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Not exactly a classic car spot from me, no actual car just a bit of circumstantial.

Yes A Marlin Owners club Magazine!

Formerly a kit car maker but now really concentrating on making and selling finished vehicles and probably the leading light of the Crediton Car Industry!

Did start me thinking though that the heady days of the kit car are probably a thing of the past. It's interesting plotting out the base vehicles Marlin used for their kit offerings over the years....
Starting with Triumph Herald/Vitesse,Morris Marina, Ford Cortina Mk III and Mark IV
Ford Sierra Honda Civic, Rover K-series Audi 1.8T

Here's one of their products, very 5exi

Saw one of these today, without camera, on the way to the tip!
http://www.simoncars.co.uk/aston/slides ... 20rear.jpg

and in the same location as the Red Citroen BX, which Is habitually there, but has actually moved 50 yards to another resting place nearby.

When you get back and read up a bit you often find that there was a lot more to notice than you did, to help tie down the actual version of the model. Never even counted the spokes on the Alloys :!:

Of course just jotting down the reg no, can often provide. Good deal of detail on the particular model.

The thread hasn't quite gone into a winter hibernation just yet.

Today on the A19 spotted a convoy headed by an Old F reg Reliant Scimitar in dark blue, and a red lotus elan +2 behind.

Yesterday, a Rover. P5 probably a mark ll but possibly a mark lll as it was old C reg 1965.

I've not seen anything of note for ages now :(

Around here they've all gone into hibernation already... Amazed not to have seen any on my Saturday bike ride...

Day out today and there are still classics to be spotted.

When we set off I would never have expected to see a D-Type Jaguar in BRG parked up in a line of cars at Toft Hill on the A68 in County Durham! and before that a Mark IV Cortina. One may be more of a classic than the other but a nice pair nonetheless!

I do believe the Cortina may well have been Oyster Gold Metallic with Chocolate fabric interior, but it was a drive by sighting.

I like those Cortinas Neil... They have kept their looks very well and are timeless... The Sierra now looks old and dowdy but the MK IV and V 'Tinas looks so fresh still..

Great colour too :)

The old MK III 'Tina still looks good :)

A lovely spot!

They used to rust well... Most had ventilated sills after a few years

Love the brown vinyl seats shown in one part of the advert... I don't mourn their passing at all, especially on a hot day!!!

If anyone fancies a nostalgia wallow with the Capri I'll give you a couple of gentle reminders...

The Adverts,
...which just go to prove that car advertising has always been totally cringeworthy, that doesn't stop me from enjoying them though.

Not may adverts these days will feature the dialogue "Do you want a cigar?" just to feature the cigar lighter! There is even a terrible one in French to enjoy!

Or the Top Gear job

....and before you switch off...this is Top Gear BC. William Woollard in the chair, and Sue Baker reporting.

Out on my bike ride today I spotted a great rarity...

A late (J-reg) Austin Maestro in red :)

Not a fancy one, just a bog-standard one in red... I particularly noticed just what wonderful visibility these cars have - it's like driving a greenhouse! They're all glass above the middle :)
