Inspired by the high winds and dodgy weather we've been having recently*, Galliano's - Roofing Tiles. Unfortunately no decent video to go with it :(

*- I had the dubious pleasure of seeing a tree snap off and get blown over straight on to the power lines at work. To give SSE their credit, they had a clearance crew on site within 40 minutes of phoning it in, and power back on 12 hours after the tree came down :)

Excellent addition to the PE Jukebox Steve. Simple and seemingly effortless musical peformance in the raw, but a rich depth of sound and rhythm.

Today's big hype has been the release of David Bowie and Nile Rodgers "Demo" performance of "Lets Dance". Much more in the raw than the produced version. Its freely available on Spotify but taken down on youtube.

Even your original "Merry Christmas Everybody" from Slade I noticed this year had the "production" treatment to form what is a very well constructed song we all know and....(yes fill in your own personal blank!)

Of course Punk was a bit of a rebellion against over production, but I bet even the "Never mind the **llocks" end product was a bit more than 4 blokes bashing away in a garage.

Later this month will be Elmore James 100th "birthday" and the Blues Show on R2 amonst others will mark the anniversary with a few tracks and tributes.

"Dust My Broom" has already made it to the "10 Classic Blues Tracks" playlist on the PE Jukebox. Tonight's Blues show on R2 played a Tom Jones version of "Done Somebody Wrong" but I do prefer the originals when it comes to the Blues.

Didn't Mark Knopfler grow up in and around Newcastle ? Does that make him a Local Hero of yours, Neil ? :-D

Just clicked on his wiki page and found something I never knew...he was born in Glasgow!

Raised and nurtured on Tyneside though so one of ours! One of the best in my opinion like virtually everything he has done and his guitar playing is just..well... Mark Knopfler...it goes beyond a musician playing an instrument.

The film 'The Sting' has a very familiar tune in its soundtrack - 'The Entertainer'... it's that well known piano tune by Scott Joplin, and it's well over a hundred years old  So here's a guitar version of it just to be different:

I have been a fan of electronic music since my early teens, I really like this clip, which gives an idea of what instruments were like in the Analogue days. Remember that almost all of the instruments were monotonic (could not play chords).

Here is a short clip of Oxygene 2, played in the same studio. On the original recording Jarre used an 8 track recorder and played all the instruments himself with over-dubbing, but for live performances has 3 other musicians playing the other parts. This clip may have been the inspiration for a certain Mr Bean sketch...

For those with more time on their hands, here is the full piece, including the tuning up of the orchestra (a necessary process with analogue synths).
