..and Willie Dixon needs an airing, author of loads of classic blues songs.

I'll put up a relatively "modern" 1963 Muddy Waters version of one of Willie's songs....sounds familiar Led Zep fans?

Liked RL Burnside, and the performance by Sister Rosetta Tharpe (one of Rolling Stones Top 10!) just a bizarre event!

Excellent stuff.

PE Jukebox Radio Theme Interlude

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

The shipping forecast has sent me on a Radio Theme tangent

Started off with this-the shipping forecast music for a start, very gentle and very nice...thanks Ronald Binge!

It then autoplayed onto this, a very well put together theme which used to be used for Radio 4, but was ditched probably for no good reason. It combines well known "themes" from across the UK. Last played in 2006 on Radio 4.

and on it went loads more to hit that comforting and nostalgic note....

^Your "themes" immediately brought to mind the "Last Night Of The Proms", long a favourite.

Gentle insanity :)

The "Psychotherapy" link has kicked off a Melanie-fest.

My daughter and I saw her at The Sage a few years ago, although she never sang the songs we were hoping she would she was fabulous nevertheless.
Never expected to see her and it was certainly a pleasure to be able to.

Just watched "Ghost In The Shell" and was reminded of this:

Also by Holly Cole (best version IMO :)

Just bought this from Amazon:

Never been a Kate Bush fan although being aware of her since her debut.
My daughter is though, went to see her last concert.
Watching a Transcriptor video I was struck by how bad the sound was and tried a different upload, listened to it all and liked it.
Thought I might buy it to go with daughter's new turntable.
£130
Bought her a different LP - she would have killed me if she found out I had spent that much on an LP.
Bought the CD though :)

Thanks for posting Steve, just had a listen to it, plenty of depth in the album.

Interesting Story on the first track, originaly refused permission to use James Joyce's words of Molly Bloom's soliloquy from Ulysses, but allowed in this rewriting when asked again.

"This Woman's Work" is a masterpiece and while everyone has their own interpretation of lyrics its a wonderful song of feelings and emotion. Kate herself gave this interpretation
"John Hughes, the American film director, had just made this film called _She'sHaving a Baby, and he had a scene in the film that he wanted a song to go with. And the film's very light: it's a lovely comedy. His films are very human, and it's just about this young guy - falls in love with a girl, marries her. He's still very much a kid. She gets pregnant, and it's all still very light and child-like until she's just about to have the baby and the nurse comes up to him and says it's a in a breech position and they don't know what the situation will be. So, while she's in the operating room, he has so sit and wait in the waiting room and it's a very powerful piece of film where he's just sitting, thinking; and this is actually the moment in the film where he has to grow up. He has no choice. There he is, he's not a kid any more; you can see he's in a very grown-up situation. And he starts, in his head, going back to the times they were together. There are clips of film of them laughing together and doing up their flat and all this kind of thing. And it was such a powerful visual: it's one of the quickest songs I've ever written. It was so easy to write. We had the piece of footage on video, so we plugged it up so that I could actually watch the monitor while I was sitting at the piano and I just wrote the song to these visuals. It was almost a matter of telling the story, and it was a lovely thing to do: I really enjoyed doing it."
In summary...just an awesome talented artist.

Wonder what the"Original" sounds like
from wiki "When the Levee Breaks" is a blues song written and first recorded by husband and wife Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. The song is in reaction to the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927.
Yes I think we need a bit of Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie.

Long afloat on shipless oceans I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang Sail to me Sail to me Let me enfold you
Here I am Here I am Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me? Were you here when I was forecastle?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow"

I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am riddled as the tide.
Should I stand amid the breakers? Should I lie with Death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me, Swim to me, Let me enfold you:
Here I am, Here I am, Waiting to hold you"
