Spotted this one in the MK Aldi car park this morning... Not seen one for years...

Amazed there are any left...

This was not a tidy example... The next most ratty car in the car park was my Ka

You probably should have obliterated the number plate Jim :-D The seasoned "whatsthisthener" can unleash an arsenal of weapons of skulldugery with that bit of info to get the answer!

I have now... Worked out how to do it :)

And the grille badge too..

Well done. Makes it more challenging, but have to admit I couldn’t resist the number plate look up when I first saw it, so I’ll have to keep schtum :)

Yes, spot-on Bobins :)

One that dates from 1993...

Back in those days we used to laugh at them and saw them as a joke - a bit like Soviet-era Skodas...

Who's laughing now though...

They were a bit poor back then...

Changed times now!

Had a top of the line Optima as a demo a few months back, absolutely lovely car to be in. Unlike the Germans the leather was actually soft, the seat bases had padding, and it had suspension with springs in rather than girders. If I was looking for something in that segment I'd not be looking any further.

Whatsthisthen?. SPG's identified

Post by NewcastleFalcon » 13 Jan 2018, 14:58

Top identifying there Alasdair. My friend thought the bit of hardware his bike was leaning against may have been one of these

Is it an aircraft ? :rofl2:

No idea what the bike is leaning against the plinth though

I'm guessing it's a Mig 19.

What's (at least part of) this based on though ?

And a few years ago I was lucky enough to be allowed on a former East German bombing range to go and see this that was left behind by the former occupants. It's a Mig - but I can't remmeber which one. Any ideas ?

Yes is a Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-19P I do believe, or according to wiki, AKA "Farmer B" to NATO.

That looks very much like a trabant estate like this

that would have to be a dig around (or maybe even dig it up!) and look it up job

I'm no expert but the tail architecture would suggest a MiG 15 or 17. From the MiG 19 and its variants the tail arrangement was different.

It surely does...

Looks like another has been used for the upper superstructure - facing the opposite way so the back window is the windscreen for the baoty thing...

A bit of resourceful recycling going on there ;)

That only leaves us with the Bike to identify and the Ukrainian odyssey is complete!

Yes you were right with the brookes saddle of course! and that bike made its way from the Ukraine to the UK!

Looks like it has a Brooks saddle though :)

Neil, I'm sorry, I can't.. Except that it's a Raleigh...

And that it's a tourer... I don't have any great knowledge of those kinds of bikes; my sort of bikes are light carbon roadies and that's surely not one of those!
