Improved feature for unsubscribing from email notifications

Post by xantia_v6 »

As part of the work being done to improve the deliverability of emails, I have made some changes to the system for unsubscribing from email notifications.

These changes are to ensure stricter compliance with RFC2369 and RFC8058 (which are the internet standards for such things), there are also some additions for Microsoft-specific rules which are additional to the standards.

Most users will not notice any difference, but the format of the unsubscribe link at the bottom of a notification email has changed. The link no longer points to the normal user configuration panel, but to a special page which allows for the un-subscription of email notifications. In most cases the option for the type of email which triggered the link will be pre-selected, so that the user only needs to click the button to unsubscribe from that type of notification or subscription.

There are also some changes to the email headers for compatibility with semi-automatic unsubscription processes which are operated by some email service providers, such as Google and Microsoft.

The formatting of the new unsubscribe page is not fully sorted yet, and on phones with small screens, the layout may appear a little strange. I will be fixing that in the coming weeks.

As usual, please reply here if you think that you see a problem.

Just a big thankyou from me for the work you're doing.
