Air con xpic 2004

Post by sutty86 »

Aircon not working on a car I've just bought,
Any way you can tell there broken or empty.
Got it booked in this week at a garage from Groupon to get filled anything I should be weary about?
Thanks

Regarding the Air Con - with the car idling, can you hear the A/C compressor engaging when you switch the Air Con on from ECO mode? If you can hear it engaging, then it may be low on refrigerant. Kwik fit do a 10% cooler than what it currently is or no charge. If you can't hear the compressor engaging, all may not be lost - if they get too low on gas there is a safety mechanism to stop the compressor engaging.

With so many issues, it is probably best to get it diagnosed with a Lexia. There are members here with kits willing to help, or you might consider buying a clone kit from somewhere like easydiagnostics. They are about £118 from this UK seller and you may get a bit of discount if you tell them you are a forum member.

Turbo whine? That might be the classic 1.6 engine issue where the pickup strainer gets clogged and starves the turbo of oil. Get that sorted first if I were you. The issue is well documented about the Forum if you do a search (as I'm just off out) on the 1.6 HDI turbo or similar.

The vast majority of AC leaks are from the condenser which is the AC 'radiator' that generally is positioned at the front ahead of the coolant radiator, invariably the leak will be on one of the lower corners of the condenser so take a look through the front grill and look for oil stains which will show up as dark patches. If the system has been regassed previously they should as good practice added a UV dye so if you have yellow glasses and a UV torch that will help find out where the leak is.

Having seen the way Kwik Fit and others regas AC on cars I look after at work I personally wouldn't use tyre dealers as the procedure they follow leaves roughly 20% of the gas in the connecting pipe rather than in the car so you never get a full charge.

I know of a friendly Forum member who does a far better job of re-gassing Air Con, and who (in my experience) takes care making sure to get the job done properly.

I believe I know the same forum member who did one of my cars! It's a pity I didn't pay him to do the Berlingo before our South of France trip. The AC is ok in England but it's struggled a bit down here.

Found out today the big leak is in the hose which runs from compressor to condenser , bendy bit of hose, leak is around the metal portion think its been banging on turbo shield.
Rang citroen up who told me the price is around £200 for a hose!!!!!
Bought part I need off eBay for £20 used.

Are these simple enough to fit?

Not overly difficult but you'll more than likely need a special tool to separate the spring lock connector where the metal section connects onto the metal pipe by the inner wing, they aren't expensive or difficult to find, a quick google will reveal all.

Here's an example of the tool https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-VS0454- ... B000RO5YFK
