Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have a 99 306 dturbo with the twin headlight units and the chrome has started to flake off the reflectors on the hi-beam lights. Does anyone know if you can get replacement lamps for these? They are made by Cibie but I dont have the part no. to hand.
The other option I was considering is to replace the whole assembly with the 'proper' crystal...

Does your keypad have a D/N button or a S button.

if it wasnt for the fact you say it stays on idle sometimes I would suggest it was a coil pack like in my zx (same engine) but with me I just had about 25% power but it would still rev, just with misfires and no grunt. It did burn fuel however and chuck it all through to the cat as one coil wasnt using any but I drove it for miles with no stuck on...

Are you sure the battery is in good condition?
Try switching all lights(Main beam) and all accessories and observe the brightness of the head lamps under load.

I have an '87 205 1.9 GTI which has had a deteriorating starter motor for a while. Normally it would just click when you turned the key, but a trusty tap with hammer later, and the car started fine.
It has been stored for a few months in the garage, and to no surprise when taken out again the starter was completely dead ... no hammer would do the...

Which pipe keeps popping off?
Is it possible the thermo is stuck and the pressure is just building to force the pipe off? If theres nothing else wrong why not run wiothout the thermo for a while, see how it goes. If it runs fine then it will be ok through summer until you can get time / money to investigate and repair properly.

Before I drive the 405TD to the scrap yard, can someone please confirm that this is likely to be the head gasket.
1) Been driving for about 3000 miles since a pipe replacement.
2) Pipe suddenly pops off, and dumps coolant (50% mix) onto the inlet manifold.

All 406's and Xantia's use a BE3 gearbox with the exception of 2.1 engined models. The type you need is ML5T. Can't you get your own re-built?

I assume you bought this, as the oldone has worn out/broke.
what you need to do, providing you have the old one, is to take the chip out and place in the new one. This will then disable the immobiliser.

I have recently bought a new IR key plip for my 306 (98 R). I've programmed it for the central locking, but it doesn't start the car, as it has to be coded for the immobiliser. Peugeot want to charge £15 for the code, and £65 + VAT to code it!!
Does anyone know a cheaper way of coding the key, or of any company around the Bucks/Oxon/Northants...

not sure on size, think its about 3mm?? one end is blocked then they all run in series and the other end runs back to the fuel pump.

Injectors leak off pipes, is there any special way round they should be connected? Or is it just a case of connecting them in series and blocking off the end ones??? The haynes is its usual helpfullness just by saying refitting is the reverse of removal.

I would be carefull if you are using a pressure washer on the intercooler, it can damage the fins (more of a problem on rads wheres the fins are thinner). I have been told an air hose does an all right job, but ive just cleaned mine but taking it off and sticking in the sink for a wash. its amazing how much rubbish came out from inside let alone...

Another quick one, has anyone pressurewashed the intercooler on a 306 to clean all the dirt from the fins to increase the efficnency. Or modified the air intake to improve the air flow to the intercooler.

You should be able to safely run 18psi boost, after that an uprated cooler is needed as it will just suffer from heat soak and thats what pops the head gasket. Go to a few scrappies, a mid 90's transit van used a front mounted I/C which could easy be mounted in the bumper, then a bit of tricky plumbing and you should be good for 22psi, although...

Are you sure you only bent 2 valves.If some others are only very slightly off there seats the engine will run rough. I would do a compression test.

I lent my S reg Peugeot 406 with air con to my brother and he managed to snap the cam belt,
I took the head off and found 2 bent valves so got a different head with good valves, skimmed the head, new valve stem oil seals, lapped valves in and fitted it to my car,
I then put a new cam belt on and to what i thought was the correct tension...

Should be a drain hole at the bottom of the tank. Undue that and empty the tank-careful with the petrol etc- make sure u have proper place to capture it/store it.
Oh-and get new diesel to re-fill
I'm sure someone else can give you better description-and how to drain pipes as I don;t own that car so don;t know layout.

Are you sure you need them? What sort of mileage have they done? To improve performance you might try diesel Redex or Miller's diesel-clean first. I've been running diesel cars since 1981 and I've never needed to replace injectors.

From what ive seen it looks like a fairly straight forward and easy job to take them out and replace them. Is there anything the haynes has slightly over looked?

The relays are easy to replace, replacing the entire box is obviously a bigger job.
I think the relay box can be detached fairly easily and this may give you enough room to examine, clean and renew any corroded spade connectors without resorting to stripping all the wiring out.

I am not a turbo expert but have an identical car which had no turbo boost at all when I bought it - turned out to be a hole in the back of the pipe going from the front of the intercooler to the fuel injection pump- it is meant to be pressurised when the turbo kicks in and this tells the pump to put in extra fuel - with the hole the pressure...

Just about to take my 306 and put it out of it's misery:
I own a 306Dt on a P Plate with 89 on the clock. Previous owner was elderly and had missed 70K service-but had driven it very little. Since having it over a year it's had new cambelt, new set of glow plugs, and oil and filter changes as necessary Also had a new radiator on it as well.

They're not an item that need to be changed at a predetermined age; unlike a cambelt - at least, not on my four cars. My Xantia is over six years and not showing any signs of needing replacements. My daughter ran a 205 from 1987 till 2002, also without any hose changing. A periodic inspection is all that's required.

How often is it recommended to change the coolant hoses on a car? i have a 1997 pug 306 xtdt and while the hoses look ok, i was wondering if it is good practice to renew them every 5 years or so? what would a rough price for this be at a garage (not dealer)

Sounds to me like an air leak ( a big one at that ) INTO the fuel system. Check all the joints are sound, expecially around the fuel filter ( as it seems to have got WORSE since changed ).
Next time it stops, use the priming bulb to prime the fuel system. It should then start fairly easily. If this is the case, 95% certain to be an air leak.

I have just had a new exhaust section and a oil filter change. Since then (or so it appears) the car wouldn't go past 300rpm in third and would eventually stall with the engine warning light on.

My fan is broken and I've tried replacing the resistors for my fan blower but that didnt work so i'm thinking it is the blower's relay that is broken.

on the pug 306 TD there are two fans in front of the radiator. When they come on should both come on at the same time or does one come on the the other if needed?
the reason for asking is that a rock came off a lorry and wedged itself in the front spoiler just in front of the fans and I'm not sure if it's damaged the fan, or...

Try the simplest things first, so yes change the clips and then the hose from the filter. Then if that doesn't work, blame the filter housing!

First piece of advice is not to expect sense from Halfords staff.
I'd be tempted to go for a roof-mounted carrier for the 406. I have a towbar mounted carrier but I don't normally tow anything.
I think the tailgate mounted ones are a total haemorrhoid
to fit and effectively disable access to the boot. The towbar ones are much quicker and easier...

I'm in the market for a cycle carrier (3 bike preferably) for my 406 saloon. I would prefer a boot mounted rack to keep the weight off my towbar. (Regularly tow a caravan).
I have seen racks in Halfords but the staff are unable to advise me if the racks would be suitable for my car nor will they allow me to try one and give it back if it dosent...

I guess only a complete rack is available off the shelf; you may be able to get it rebuilt cheaper by taking the rack (off the car :( ) to a steering rack reconditioner.

Check all the fuses first.
Behind the passenger side head light there is some strange looking round connector things.
Have a look inside & make sure everything is ok.

You want a new sensor to replace a broken one or fit one in a car that never had one?
Tried a Peugeot or Citroen dealer or a scrap yard?
Its very rare for a sensor to fail.
Have a look under the passenger side mirror, spot a little black button sticking out, thats the sensor.

You must use one out of a Diesel because these work of the alternator & are different to the petrol ones!
No idea if the wires are there already, someone on here might be able to answer that or ask at a Peugeot parts dept if there helpfull.
You can get clock sets from scrapyards or ebay, or someone on this forum might have one they no longer...

I have a 306 and there is no rev counter - just a stupid clock that stopped at 10 to 7 and hasnt worked since - if i got a matching rev counter, would i need anything else to fir, and how hard is it to do?

either engine will require the looms for it. Your also looking at new mounts etc, but guessing you knew that already!!
TBH I think you stand more chance of finding a 3.0 v6 than a T16 engine. But good luck, cos both are little beasties.

I prefer the T16 since I do not need to notify the authorities on the capacity increase but wonders whether it will fit (I mean not just the engine but what about wiring)?

Did it snap whilst driving? There isnt many engines that would be forgiving if a timing belt snapped. Only sure way to find out is either take the head off and look or put a new belt on and crank it by hand.

The timing belt on my trusty 205 (1.1, H reg) has gone, which I know on many cars can bend the valves. Does anybody know if that is the case on this particular engine, or if it should be ok if I replace the belt?

What happens if you try to start it when warm? Does it turn over OK?
It sounds possibly like the fuel pump is at fault, when the engine warms properly a cable loosens off and allows the cold start advance arm to return to the off position and this reduces the diesel flow, when this happens it may not be getting enough fuel. It could also just be...
