Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

That should be all you need. The stereo's metal tray slides through the plastic trim (converting slanty to flat) and the metal tabs fold out with the aid of a screwdriver to hold both in place. Then the stereo slides in.

I have not had this on my 205xs, but it sounds like the brake servo. You could try and get another from a scrapper to see. Should be quite straightforward to replace.

This is caused by the resistors failing in the fan circuit.quite a common problem and easy to fix i think, do a search on this forum its been mentioned before.

For a 1.9td it should start pulling from about 1700-2000 rpm,when the turbo starts to work.Below about 1600 rpm it takes a while to pick up.Before i had my Xantia boosted(same engine)it used to start about 1800 rpm,then pulling strongly from about 2100 rpm.

The glow plug for your pug powered Rover is very common, and is fitted to all the XUD series cars. The Rover version is the XUD7TE which is the same as what was listed for Peugeot 405 1.8TD. You will even find the Maestro Diesel plug is the same, you'll find in fact there are only about 10 types available across the whole existance of small diesel...

When manufacturers post their consumption figures they run their test vehicles under ideal conditions - sometimes on a rolling road. In practice, consumption is usually never as good. On my own 2.1, over a month, from fill to fill, I average 42mpg, which seems to be the norm.

It has started to slip when pulling away had a look and it doesnt look like it can be adjusted anymore pedal is also really hard to opperate and goes down quite far to the floor so i am going to assume that the clutch is on its way out. the car has done 90,000 miles...

Self adjusters not working, and the slack in the system was being compensated for by adjusting the handbrake cable instead of sorting the self adjusters.
When the cable snapped, instead of falling back to the correctly adjusted stops (which is difficult if they're not working), they fell back to the start of the travel.

new ones would probaly have a warranty but if you can remove a second hand condenser and fit it to your car you save yourself 150-200 quid in labour charges then you just have to pay for the regas.again.
try not to damage the o-ring seals on the pipes though.

I Have just got hold of the high rear brakelight to fit to my 306 - the unit has two wires connecting to a plug - can i just cut wires and connect to the existing brake light wiring for the normal rear brake lights, and run the cable down the inside of the boot lid?

Silly question but has to be asked.
Does your sump drain plug have a new copper washer between the drain plug and the sump? These should be replaced with every oil change.

It's wise to replace the nuts which hold the ends of the shockers to their bolts, as they have a locking compound.
Easy enough job if following Haynes instructions.
But soak nuts in WD40 before starting, and be prepared to be faced with corroded damper bushes which won't budge.
Then it will be time to get out the heat gun/hacksaw/angle grinder....

from what i have heard on here since i have been here, it sounds like the idle control stepper motor is starting to fail, i believe they are about £130 from the stealers, although i'm sure they are less from GSF!,

Hi peepel, been running a 406 1.8, 1998(S), as a taxi for a year now without any major problems but in the last week or so i have had a problem with the idling on the car At first i thought it was a sticky throttle cable but alas no! most of the time it behaves perfectly well but a couple of times a day it will stick at high revs or keep cutting...

Didn't know there was a 6K interval for these, isn't it stretched to 12K, even for an oil change?
The book for my Cit Xsara TD (old-style XUD engine) is 10K between services, but 6K for vehicles fed a diet of short journeys.
Cits with HDi engine are 12K in my late 1998 service book.

If you've got hot pipes either side of the heater, then it's getting flow through it. THe heater in your 306 regulates the heat by mixing hot and cold air, rather than regulating the flow through the radiator.
I suspect you've got a cable off between the heater dial, and the air mix flap.
Then again, if the engine *IS* over cooling, then your new...

A 1996 car will be mechanical injection. Only the HDi's had fully electronic ignition. The fuel system will be either Bosch or Lucas, it doesnt matter really, they are both as good, although the Bosch lasts longer at higher mileages.

I think peugeot used to do retro fit kits for this? maybe worth watching ebay or your local auto jumble for old to new stock if your not in a hurry. That way you'll be sure you get all the bits and they are not worn out.

I've changed on 106, 205 and 405, but cannot say how accessible a 306 is.
You will definately need a 12mm socket. What I do is test each across a battery, after you have taken them out. You should get an orange glow after 5-10 seconds. DON'T GET BURNT!!!! Or use a curcuit tester.
I usually find 2 are duff when the problems start. Hope you go on OK...

I've started getting a blast of grey smoke and a few seconds rough running at start up on my '93 306 xrdt, after that everything runs ok, I'm guessing that new glow plugs may be in order, if so is this straight forward for someone with four thumbs on each hand and only a Haynes manual for reference?

Nothing unusual in that, probably a bad connection, opening and closing the door could be enough to jog it on or off.

right i know ive gota french car so to expect wierd elecrics but ive just had the most unusually experience.
the drivers side door central locking has been an issue since i got the car. i just changed the module from a scrappy and that fixed it for ages and then that died tooa while back. the car locks and unlocks all the other doors from that...

The petrol and diesel bodies should accept either exahust as they are the same. The 505 is pretty similar mecanically and you will find a lot more of those in the breakers yards.

sounds like head gasket to me,
Its not too difficult a job to do so i'd say get stuck in!, if your not going to skim the head you could probably do it in a weekend, but its probably best to get a check skim done just for peace of mind, costs about £25 and should take 24 hours for most places to do

I have a 406 td which has given me pretty much fault free driving for a while. Except for a recent clutch replacement! Upon start up I am getting the radiator warning light come on after start up, remain for about 10-15 seconds and then switch off. I haven't done any long driving since this has started but in the short drive into work (5 minutes...

If memory serves me well on the servo unit or in the pipe work to it there's a non return valve thingy. This prevents any loss of servo pressure on a diesel engine. My old ZX had all the usual brake work done but for a couple of quid this valve paid for it self. Brakes much better. Should be as you look at the servo unit (with intercooler off)...

I've got a '93 306 TD, and ever since I've owned it (2+ years), the brakes have just been pretty poor. There's no real bite, and you have to really try to get the wheels to lock up. From my experience of other Peugeots, this isn't usual.
So far I've changed:
Servo vacuum pump
Front discs/pads
Rear drums, shoes, cylinders
Fluid
The pedal has got ok...

The best way to tune the 1.8 is to ditch it and get the 2.0!
You could try getting hold of things such as the cams from the XU10J4 or even the J4RS engine, this will probably add some power to the top of the rev range. Maybe an induction kit, but you wont really see any gain from this, just extra noise so it sounds faster!

Yes i think the 504 is still being built in africa. It was always a really popular model out there as the diesels were totally indestructable.There are some 25year old+ 504s out there being driven by maniacs on the worst roads imaginable and run on a mixture of parafinn and cooking oil.
Until recently they still built the 504 in argentina but...

New shocks?There quite cheap & proberly easy to do.Or spring assisters.You fit them into the spring(i presume it hasn`t got torision bar?)& they reduce the sag.Have a look at the Towsure website.They do EVERYTHING for towing,caravans,camping etc.I think it is www.towsure.co.uk

I think if the water pump had packed up,you`d really know about it.I have seen a few fins on the water pump break off though,through old age.This happend to a couple of fork lift trucks at work.How many miles has it done,petrol or td?If it were me,i would give the whole system a good flush through,replace the thermo stat,& get a new expansion...

They where around £36 a year ago for the metal mount & the rubber insert.
Note, it fits different engines & not all the bolt holes are used on the mount

Noticed that the rear engine mount where the driveshaft goes through is shot.
Looks as though mount is main dealer only part :-( and dealers now closed till monday.
Anyone have any idea how much the mount will cost me?

the radiator one should be the sensor that tells the fan to cut in, take off the plug and short it with the ignition on and if the fan comes on just replace the sensor. under normal operating the temperature will go up to just over 90 degrees before the fan turns on.

a good idea is to check the turbo system for leaks ie hoses to the intercooler manifold and turbo its possible it may just be a split hose or a seal .the turbos on the disels are pretty bomb proof new turbo is about £300 on an exchange basis

I think that the lock is operated by a solenoid.
Probably find that this has died and thats why it doesn't unlock

I've got an L reg 5 door 106. When i hit the button on the key fob, all doors unlock EXCEPT the drivers door. This i have to unlock manually with the key.

yes,from about `96 or `97 maybe earlier,catalistst were put on diesels to help with emisions. but before you order your cat and spend £130+ make sure the ring between the manifold and cat isn't worn instead, you can usually tell just if there is any movement in the springs that hold them together. this bit can be ordered from citroen for about...

Not on a new modern car but on older Austin cars. It was an earth problem at one of the sender units. And again the voltage stabalizer. What you should try is make sure all the earth wires are clean and tight down then check all the under bonnet wiring.

i ve got a 205 1.9 gti but its got this popping coming from the nearside front. it SOMETIMES does it when you engage the clutch and when your driving slowly ie 30mph or less. it sounds just like the balljoint but i replaced that along with a new strut top mount and anti-roll bar link. any ideas as to what it could be?
