Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

i would consider changing the front bush on the arms aswell,if the rears are worn, then the fronts will be weak!
the bushes from GSF are normally OE spec,but in a different box.
take your car to a good tyre outlet that can do four wheel geometry check,that will tell you if theres a problem ie: caster/camber etc.

I replaced my lower arm bushes recently and all was fine other than major brake judder.... once the judder was fixed ( new discs) the front suspension has felt very loose.. ie when i slam the brakes the car thuds and the steering wheel straightens up sharply...

Its an XUD, it'll go for ever and ever! I've just sold my old N-reg DTurbo, It was on 112K and still going like the day it was new. Had to replace the radiator cos it leaked from road slat corrosion, btu that was about it. Did lots of preventative maintanaince on it, but it was very very reliabe. Oh and the glowplugs went a couple of winters ago....

Fitted it should be about £300 if you shop around. As for just the clutch to fit your self check GSF's main site there about the cheepest you will find - and it helps fund this forum :).

Easy, its the rubber mountings where the axle joins the chassis. Mine went with these symptoms. Jack the car up so that the weight of the axle is hanging from the car, e.g jack the car from the chassis not the axle. If its the rear mounts that have gone, they will pull apart from the weight of the axle. If not, its the more expensive front passive...

sounds like the main climate control curcuit board is faulty.
the 306 used to suffer with the same problem,cold air on one setting and hot air on the next.

I have a 1997 (R) 1.9 GLX TD. The heater only blows hot air out when the temp is set at 30Deg, but blows cold out between 14 and 29. Theres no fault in the fan, as that works full range in both manual and auto, and no fault in the A/C.

I would say the poor cornering, wandering and odd steering is one of 3 things, track rod ends, drop links or shocks, with the car jacked up can you feel any play in wheel movement if you shake it by hand?
I would do the droplinks anyway and the track rod ends as they are cheap and easy to do, if that doesnt cure it then might be time for a new...

You might find it a lot cheaper to go to your local Bosch Automotive dealer for a new ABS sensor then a Peugeot dealer.
Also when you get the new sensor, DONT peel the white paper off the end of it, Thats there to set the correct airgap.
Fit the sensor so the paper is touching the toothed rotor, Now spin the wheel, The paper gets removed by the...

I also made the mistake of having the same Halfords battery as you & my 405 didn't like it one bit.
For some reason it didn't like the Halfords battery, I ended up getting a Bosch silver battery for the 405 TD or 406 V6, Much bigger then the silly little thing recommended for the 2 litre 8 valve.

your local HALFORDS should have a parts desk that should be able to sort the correct part for you, if not,look in your YELLOW PAGES for KWIK FIT or similar they should sell you a clamp over the counter, shouldnt cost you more than £6.00

Are you sure the lower suspension arm balljoint is secured properly in the hub carrier?
The ball joint has a groove so the securing bolt can be fitted and hold the suspension arm in place.
I don't know what you mean by bending metal back into place, but Haynes should give torque settings for all suspension bolts.

very easy to change,find a socket that will fit the top,undo filter,pull off old filter,fit new one and the new seals.screw filter assembly back into housing, tighten to 20nm,wipe off excess dripped oil,start engine,let it tickover until oil light goes out,recheck oil level.

It is not the usual metal screw on sort, but it seems to be a paper cartridge type which hides under a large black plastic cover. presuming this is a 306. The arm will be main dealer, or a scrappie. To remove the nut use bucketloads of wd40 applied at regular intervals, and when it does finally move, work the corrosion out by alternatly undoing it and then doing it back up again, whilst continuing to apply more wd40. It makes a mess, but at least it shoudn't shear off.

sounds like the new gasket is aligned incorrectly and the tapping you are hearing is a piston hitting the edge of the gasket each stroke if the noise was not present before.

Hi
It will be the resistor pack that is attached to the blower motor, It has shorted to earth.
Either fix this quickly or unplug the motor, If you leave it the relay for the blower fan gets too hot & starts to melt the wiring loom behind the plug!
Pop down the scrapyard & search out any 405s, 306, 406, 605 etc for a decent motor.

Heater fan on my 405 (pre-facelift) diesel turbo only works on max. I am getting hot and cold air so it's just the fan. Searching the archives the only vaugly similar problem was on a 405 TD. The advice was change the fan. Checking the Haynes manual these are fairly easy to get at (sounds like the same as my old 205) and also have a motor...

Yes that clutch will fit as long as its the same method of operation IE push or pull. I know the engines are the same just not sure if gearboxes are the same in the 405. Easy way to tell is the direction the clutch cable runs to the thrust bearing arm. If its in a holder on the front of the gearbox and running backwards to the arm then its a pull...

Just to help me clarifiy. my car 405 1.9td (m reg) now with a suspected slipping clutch due to diesel spill (nothing to do with the 193k on the clock). stupid place to put a fuel filter if you ask me.
Symptoms: when i floor it in 3rd the rev's shoot up from just above 2k to just over 3k and then back down a bit with a slight lose of power during...

The other day, on way to work on motorway, the engine diagnostic light came on. She stopped and after 5 mins set off again, and the light didn't come on again.

if you remove the reciever from the head lining there should be a number on it.the last one i bought afew weeks ago for a customer who had a 306 cost approx £48,they also might need the chassis number aswell.

Sounds like a faulty stork or possibly a cracked circuit board in the stereo itself, why not just put an aftermarket head unit in with working buttons. Most the sony ones you can get an adapter for to use with the stalk.
Nice to hear the 406 is comfortable for long periods, I'm a PH driver so looking at buying a 406 at the moment.

As far as i know,they dont.Its a 90 degree shoulder,the alloy wheel bolts on my 405 and 205 are all the same.

Looking at getting some alloy wheel security bolts for the 405. The seller says they fit alloys with a 60 degree taper. Any idea if the original fit alloys have this taper? (I'll be able to measure it tomorrow but if someone knows that means I don't have to take a bolt out ..... :-) )

cant be 100% sure!is it a clarion unit?
try leaving the ignition and stereo turned on for at least 30 mins.
the stereo should reset it self enabling you to put in correct code!

i've a 405 quasar diesel the radio has been disconnected and i've entered a wrong code in 3 times and now the radio is showing SECURTY on the display,but i've just rung the dealer and they've given me the right code,is there anyway of clearing the SECURTY so i can enter the RIGHT code

sounds like its gone into limp home mode , youll need to contact your peugeot dealer or a specialist with diagnostic equipment who can read the fault codes.

Does the lamp go off, and then come back on again after moving off, or does it never go out? It *could* be any one of the probelms you've listed, although the favourite is a dead wheel sensor. This could either be a dead sensor, or broken wires to it. The location of the wires does lend itself to corrosion, and hence the ECU thinks it sees a dead...

any good quality blade is ok.have you tried cleaning the screen and wiper rubber with screen wash additive.

Quick query. Any recommendations for wiper blades? I have Bosch fitted at the moment but they have often vibrated against the screen which is irritating to say the least! I have always gone for ones with a spoiler.

Adjusting rear torsion bars is possible, But if you have never done one before, You could be letting yourself in for a major headache! Thats why the garages didnt wont to know!

I had a similar problem with an old Triumph Spitfire I fitted a gauge to. I priced up crank regrinds, gaskets etc and it wasn't cheap!
I sorted it out by taking the gauge out again, and not worrying about it.
The engine ran for many thousands of miles after that!

What kind of pressures should Oil be at? Bit random I know but Ive just put a gauge in a turbo diesel and it seems a bit low and random, not sure if it indicates a fault or if its normal with the chaiin oil pumps.
Basically start car and its around 25psi, if you rev and hold so its on boost it climbs to around 47psi then drops with the revs,...

The 2.1 isnt a bad engine, But the gearbox & clutch are different to every other 406 & can be expensive to fix.
Also second hand instrument panels are like gold dust & highly sought after.
I myself wouldnt touch a 2.1 TD engine, Go for the 1.9, Loads of these about & cheap to fix when they do go wrong.

You could just pop along to a place like Maplins & get another key switch.
The 2 wires would just connect up to the 2 terminals on your new switch.

when i got my 306, the siren was turned off by the key, i dont have one to turn it back on with, so i went to pug today and asked about getting one, only to be told they dont sell them separately, and id have to buy a whole new alarm! so no way. i was just wondering, if there was anyway of bypassing the key and maybe putting in a switch instead?...

Hi
Have a look under the passenger side door mirror, Your looking for a small raised black button.
Thats the sensor, You need the mirror glass off to change it, Tilt the glass all the way upwards, Look through the gap at the bottom between the glass & the housing, See that wire locking clip? Unclip that & the glass will lift off.

Sounds more like a gearbox bearing in trouble, wheel bearings typicaly start to knock when they are on the way out, and will do so at all speeds, if it is a wheel bearing the direction of travel isn't a reliable pointer as to which one it is, it depends where abouts the damage is on the races.

White smoke from a diesel means water mixed in with the fuel.
Also you mentioned the coolent level is dropping, Head gasket by the sounds of it.
Have a look at this thread on the Citroen pages, Its the same lump.

My 306 1.9 D Turbo has suddenly started loosing coolant and putting out a lot of white smoke when accelerating!

Easy job this, Pop along to your local model / hobby shop & get some 12volt grain of wheat bulbs, My local model shop has these in packs of 10 for £4. These are really small & have long wires coming off them, Make sure you get the 12 volt ones!
These bulbs are not the same as the originals, But they can be made to fit nicely!
