Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi
The parking switch on the wiper motor has gone faulty, Scrapyard & pick up a decent second hand motor.
Wiper motors are a 306 weak spot!
The alarm problem is fixed by pulling the fuse / plug to the box, Once the Peugeot alarm starts going wrong it can cost lots of money to repair it, Your better off without it or getting another much better...

I have only two problems with this great car.
firstly the windscreeen wipers are having a problem self parking,

Hi,i had mine done a few years ago,i was going to tackle it myself then found out you had to take the tank of to do a proper job,so it got booked in at my local garage instead,plus i didnt have a flaring tool either.

Have you tried disconnecting one of the Motion sensors located behind the steering wheel? Also there is a button on the column, if you press and hold it untill the alarm light stays on, does the alarm still go off?

Just an update on the alternator as I've done som research & brought my alternator knowledge up to date a bit.
I've discovered that the smaller connector is for the 12v alternator field supply (not a -ve as I initially thought). This supply comes on with the ignition switch & livens up the core magnets of the alternator.

You can lower it only at the front but it will look stupid,your best bet is to do the rear aswell,theres plenty of web sites showing how.As for camber and caster,i doubt if they will alter much but just have them checked by a specialist to make sure,have fun!

Sometimes when I switch on the dash display wont show Park or Reverse
It dose not stop me starting the car but won't let me engage Reverse
If I tap the dash when in Park the display shows then I am able to get Reverse. Any one any ideas as Peugeot say they have not heard of the problem.

Not a 307 but hopefully relevant. I've got a 406 7str (where the seats fold into the boot floor) and chuck my two teenagers in the back on a semi-regular basis. I am having problems with the brakes on my 1994 diesel 306.
Under heavy braking the pedal goes quite hard, brakes fade badly and a smell of burning brake pads enters the car.

if you have a big round air filter canister, you can put an ITG performance element in it, in fact, I have one you can have if you want. I am in Kent/Sussex. I got mine from Merlin Motorsport.
Best thing to do with your car, is get a Solex 32/36 carb and manifold from an xs/gt/ax gt on ebay, this should bolt straight on.

I believe there is a way to bypass the keypad immobilser on the Citroens but Im afraid I do not know it myself - it is possible to disable the immobilser once switched of using the kypad to prevent it activating again, but at the moment I fear your best bet is a...

This has been covered to quite some extent over this forum, on lots of different PSA cars, with many differing opinions.
The one thing that is for sure, is that this is due to broken wiring, or a dodgey sensor (probably the one you have already highlighted as knackered)

I'd suggest a set of rims from a 405 if you don't want any problems. One thing you need to consider is the cost a replacing the tyres. Don't forget to get the alloy wheels bolts, which are longer and have a 'washer' unlike the the bolts for steel wheels

Is it best to disconnect this or leave it alone?
The reason I ask is because I have been getting poor performance, eg. decrease in mpg and poor acceleration, lack of power.

Idle speed should be 750rpm +50/-0 Erratic idle might be air in fuel lines/Air leak in turbo hoses/Dirty injectors.

I had something like this happen on my mk1 405 kept cutting out then sometimes refusing to start turned out to be ignition amplifier was duff ! hope this might help

Hi, my 405 (1905cc XU9J2) has recently started to run very erratically and in essence cut in and out every few seconds.

Hi Guys,

I have recently found that sometimes when approachin a junction or roundabout etc, as i dip my clutch to stop or coast to the coener, the engine revs drop to a point where it stalls.

Heater matrix has to be a favourite here. Any damp and soggy carpets or funny smells in the cabin?
Although (toungue firmly in cheek) if your 406 leaks like all my old 405s did then it might be a trifle difficult to tell. I have to say though, a pint a week would soon be noticed by the smell if nothing else.

Hi all
This has got me baffled.
I have a 98 peugeot 406 sx 1.9td and I am loosing about a pint of coolant a week.
There are no visible external leaks anywhere.
Had all covers off checked water pump, hoses' radiator, heater bleed points and the whole of the exterior of the engine.
There are no signs of coolant/antifreeze loss at all.

the blank plug that lives near the tdc sensor is there. Would there be enough pressure from there to run a turbo?

I have a 1993 405 diesel which i would like to convert to turbo. However the stub for the main oil feed pipe to the turbo isn't on my engine, any ideas how to overcome this? I have the turbo from a 306 and all the air pipes from a 405td. Any help is greatly appreciated

I've been running XUD's in Citroens for 15 years and I change cambelts every 40K miles. Some DIY mechanics leave them longer, but when a belt breaks on these engines, the damage is extensive. I've heard of guys getting a belt changed for around £120. It's worth getting the pulleys and water pump checked at the same time.

ive had a few problems, look for a rear wheel slant on the back, if it looks like /-----\ then the trailing arm bearings are prob gone, its expensive to replace, and its more cost effective to replace the whole back axle suspension unit. 106's have a urge to have an erratic idle, so let the engine warm up and listen to the engine, if the revs are...

Welcome to the world of rubbish PSA alarms, Yours has lasted very well, Its normal for them to fail much younger then this.

Hi All
As above, the Mrs drove my 406 with air con switched on. After arriving home, and getting back in to go out again, the air con does not switch on, nor does the internal fan.
I've checked the fuse in the internal fusebox as well as the fuses in the engine compartment, and all are still intact. Tonight, I've totally dismantled the heater...

Hi all,
Got two problems on my 95 405 1.6 GLX (aircon)
When i turn off the ignition and the radiator fan is running, the fan stops immediately, surely this should continue for a while until the engine cools down, any ideas?
Indicators, while appearing to work ok, after cancelling i can still hear a series of clicking, the lights are not flashing...

If it's behind the fuel filter, it could be one of the fuel leak-off pipes.

Does anyone know of a quick and easy way to check if a 406 has multiplexed wiring? I'm in the market for a diesel 406 and wish to avoid the multiplexed cars, whilst getting the most recent vehicle I can find.
One possibility which springs to mind is to check for a delay on headlight flash, but someone may have a better idea. Any suggestions...

Not at all difficult. If you have an under-tray fitted, that's the worst part. My Xantia has a little trapdoor under the sump plug, but the Xsara has an under-tray that has to be removed completely. Our 306 doesn't have a tray, so it's straight forward - a 10 minute job. You probably need a square bar to remove the plug. I always replace that type...

Are there any fiddley bits of trim under the sump?
Do you need the square type sump plug ftment to remove the sump plug?
Also how can I reset the service mileage on the dash?

Im not sure, i have to do mine as well as my trailing arm bearings have gone! where did you get your back unit from? was it ssp engineering?. how difficult is it to change the brake connectors / cables?

GSF of course.... Just a word of advice, don't go asking about other spares companies on GSF's website, it isn't good manners
What you really need to do is trundle on down to your local GSF and ask to see the gaiters so you can have a touchy feely of them to see which one is the softest/most flexible.

I would suggest checking the handbook first H rated tyres have a higher speed rating the T rated ones. If you put T rated ones on, when you are supposed to have H rated ones you may void your insurance and give them an excuse not pay out if the worst happens.

Hi
For what a pollen filter costs & how easy it is to replace I wouldnt even bother trying to clean it.
If the pollen filter gets too blocked up you greatly reduce the aitflow into the car.
