Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi When I pull away in first gear I tend to get a big vibration throught the car, its only in this gear and under load. Would it be fair to say its the Clutch? Could it be just some dirt or the cable?
Its done roughly 85k without a clutch change.
Could it be an engine mount?

What are the tyres like? Any play in the suspension components?
Front wishbones? drop links, top mounts, anti roll bars ok?
To spin a 405 either something is worn / broken or you are driving beyond the chassis capabilities! ( Not possible with a 405 )
Sounds like the rear trailing arm bearings are shot, Might be time for a new / re-con rear beam...

Have you looked inside the boot? Some Peugeots have the VIN plate there.
If the VIN plate is missing then the car should have failed the MOT test anyway!

Sounds like it's a tensioner roller that should have been changed, or possibly a water pump that is on it's way out. Could also be something as benign as a loose belt cover. Either way, it needs taking apart again, and the source of the noise found, as you are right that if it is a dead tensioner, and it gives up, it could be terminal.

That alarm lock is just an ON & OFF switch at the end of the day, The key part is to stop thieves turning the siren off quickly.
The siren is only ment to run for 5 minutes when the alarm is tampered with before shutting up.

This sounds more like a fault with the radio thats been fitted.
One way to check is to try connecting a seperate speaker (not using the cars wiring) and seeing if the same still happens.

I've put Michelin Pilot Primacy on my 406 Estate. They weren't cheap but are lasting really well and grip well too. Hi Everyone,
I am totally stuck here. My 8valve N reg xsi is cutting out when idling and cold. I'll try list a few symtoms.
When starting the car from cold the idle speed is way too low to prevent the engine from stalling. To recify this problem i adjusted little grub screw on the throttle assemble to frig the revs up and keep the engine ticking...

I paid £230 a few months back to get the cambelt the auxbelt and the water pump changed on my 405 at a local independant cit garage. so £210 seem reasonable if a pump is being included.
But there are some people that will say just buy the belt from gsf for £20 ish irc and fit it yourself. Im not one of those tho cos i havent a clue how to do it...

Oh dear, sounds like a right shed.
£100 to £200 for a cambelt done at a garage, but it may need new tensioner, pulley and water pump.
You're going to have to give this car the works, certainly the brakes will need a close inspection.
Plus, given the 1.4d likes to eat head gaskets, you'd better check the cooling system and flush it out.

Sounds like your tank breather is blocked, so as you use fuel it creates a vacuum in the tank and this tries to stop the fuel reaching the engine. Hence the loss of power.

No need to drop the lump on these, The gearbox slides nicely to the side & leaves you enough room to change the clutch.
The aircon pipes run near the top of the gearbox & under the battery tray.
Stick new driveshaft oil seals in & change the mounting rubber on top of the box too while its in bits.

Its likely to be the idle stepper motor if its not an air leak. It can be cleaned as a temporary measure, but its not a problem i've yet to encounter, so I can't tell you whereabouts to look fo it.

Probably best to get the ecu 'read' for fault codes. I've got an XSi and its has a bit of flat spot under acceleration so perhaps 'its a quirk of the model sir' as my local Peugeot service department would say.

Found it! its on the passenger side front inner wing, you have to partly remove the plastic inner wing to get to it , then its bolted on towards the front. thanks for looking

I have a 405TD which is having cold starting problems. There is no power going to the plugs and there is no glow plug light on ignition. I have changed the heater unit beside the battery box but still nothing. I have power into the box via the battery but do not know what the other wires are for inc. the five wire plug into the box. I know coolant...

A hissing sound is usually a bearing breaking up. In this case, if it only happens when the clutch is pressed, it could well be the release bearing. They do sometimes continue to work like this for a fair while though.
The clear funny smelling liquid is probably gear oil, which if someone has put EP or similar oil in the box, does smell fairly...

Hi there,
I have a 1991 205 GT (1360 TU3 engine) and know how to change the timing belt and water pump, having done it before.
Now, my other half has a 2000 206 LX (as I understand it, still a 1360 TU3 engine), but this also has power sterring, aircon etc.
My question is.. is there any difference between the cam belt & water pump job required...

Hi
Check the turbo isn't blown, They do have a high failure rate & finding a 605 / 406 / Xantia 2 litre turbo to rob engine parts off is difficult.
Make sure the auto box is working ok, Check all the electric's are working, Check over the whole car & dont pay too much for it, I wouldnt give more the £100 for it myself!
Also if it has the keypad...

I had a similar problem, speedometer drive housing broke which is the bit you are describing. The part seperate from pug is around £60 plus VAT if they are willing to order it for you. Most scrappies wont split them from the box either, I suggest trying to find a breakers where you remove the parts yourself and trying to remove it then pay for...

Hi, Im going to plumb in a boost gauge today to my 405 TD (dont think shes running the right boost) which pipe do i need to T-into to read positave pressure. ( i dont fancy having the gauge comming of the actuator line as its in such an ackward place to get to) has anyone got a picture of which line is best to t-into.

its like a kind of carbon build up,your injector seals are leaking,replace the copper seal at the bottom & the plastic sleves that sit in the cylinder head around the injectors,they should cost pennies from a main dealer.if you leave this for too long the injectors will become very hard to remove so do it sooner rather than later.

According to the manual for my 306 the below procedure needs to be done to program the remote.
1. Turn on the ignition
2. Within 10 seconds hold the original plip pointed at the sensor, about 8 away from it and press either button
3. Within a further 10 seconds do the same for the new plip. (you see you need a spare key - or remove the blade)

Bought an old one from ebay, and i have herd there is an easy way of setting it for the central locking!
I have tried putting the spare key in ignition and turning to a, and poiinting the key at the sensor, but dont work?

Hi
The climate control panel lowest setting is 14 degs, So thats normal.
The keys have a transponder immobiliser chip inside them, You need the dealer or an autolocksmith to programe new keys.
Without the transponder the car wont start!
You can do the remote part yourself, Its easy, The transponder part you cant!

As an introduction to the workings of the Bosch distributor type rotary pump (type VE) I would recommend the yellow Bosch technical instruction booklet. The one you need is VDT-U 2/2 En. There are more than 16 of these booklets, covering various topics and all are good.

Just to let peeps know... the torx setting on a 106 xnd 1995 1.5
stage one - 40NW
stage 2 - 260 degrees
since the gasket was changed all is fine.

The usual test is to take the cable of the sender unit on the fuel tank. Make sure it's not touching any thing and turn on the ignition. Is the gauge reading full or empty?
If full the problem is probably the gauge or the cable has shorted somewhere.
If it reads empty its probably the sender unit in the tank either packed up or sticking.

You also need all the wiring that goes with them as well as the hassle of fitting them.
Peugeot used a lot of different looms on the 405, You would need to find a GTX/ GTDT or MI16 of similar vintage & borrow the parts of the loom you need of that.
The 405 never got the standard one loom fits all untill August 1994.
It IS possible to do this...

I need a new rear ABS sensor on my 405. It's a 1992 pre-facelift model - a GTDT so disks all around. I have a Peugeot parts CD (from Ebay) but am not sure which sensor I have on the car. They list 2 for the early models - 4545-05 and 4545-14. Anyone know which one it should be?

Oldest son has a 1.1 106 - 1998 vintage as yours. Same problem. I replaced transponder pick up mounted around steering mounted key: problem gone.

Tyres is a good place to start. Mine had Continental EcoContacts and the handling was so bad I repeatedly had the geometry and shocks checked. When I replaced them with trusted p6000s, the handling was transformed and felt really planted and confidence inspiring.
Check the dampers are in good nick. I doubt aftermarket dampers would improve things,...

Are all the air connections from the air filter through to the manifolds tight? Could be a huge number of things, might be worth trying to get the fault codes read to give you any clues. Try giving the MAF a blast with some carb cleaner aerosol or similar.

I have a 2001 306 DTurbo (HDi). A few days ago it started idleing unevenly. It basically goes up and down rhythmically from 750rpm to 1000rpm. It only seems to do it when hot after a long run. Nothing else seems affected, mpg, power etc seems normal.

With the ignition on but the engine not running, Move the temp slider from hot to cold slowly & can you hear any nasty clicking noises coming from the area next to the clutch pedal?
Theres a small servo motor that is for the heater water valve that controls the water flow through the heater matrix.

I have an M Reg with aircon.It was a bit cold last night so moved the heater control for a bit of warmth. I moved it back to cold today but am still getting hot air! Lets hope we don't have that heatwave because I don't seem to be able to get cool air now. Turning on the aircon doesn't seem to help either.
