Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

My car is running rough and sluggish and running hot (the k light is on)

I have just pulled the brown wire off the pump (advance retard) while it was running and it made no difference which leads me to think this is the fault.

Can anyone advise me on what to do next to fix this problem?

Is it a problem where the pump will have to be replaced?

I have a pug 406 1.9 dt 1998 which is running rough and is sluggish, The management light is on, I had the fault read and it came back as (Start of injection fault) Nobody seems to know what this means, Is it the pump or the lift sensor?

Can anyone tell me what happens if the injector needle lift sensor

When cold/not run fora while the car is a pig to start needing to be turned over for ages or the priming bulb pumped and turned over for a bit. If its been run recently up to about 8-10hrs not a prob starts as soon as the glow light goes out. And i know the glow plugs are good only changed them before xmas.

Hi guys, homefully someone can help me out here before i spend too much cash!

My 306 isnt right, the symptoms are as follows.

1. Juddery when pulling off, this only happens in 1st gear, and is gone once the clutch is fully up. Odd, if you pull off in 2nd, it doesnt do it.

I dont think its the clutch, becouse if i pull off at over 2000rpm, no...

Hi All,

Was replacing the spark plugs on my car today, got all the way along to the final one, and it wouldn't budge an inch!! Incredibly frustrating. This one was the one that was the most difficult to access, as its limited by the air ducting/throttle body cover.

Anyone got any tips on removing it. I was running the engine for a minute...

Does anyone know where the central locking module is located on a 1998 306. On earlier models it is behind the driver side rear passenger seat, but according to Mr Haynes it is buried near the RHS pillar, under the carpet, between the driver's side doors.

My 1993 309 has central locking (not remote) which has started behaving erratically - all doors lock and unlock at random while the car is in motion, and even when it's parked. Anyone got any advice / experience of this issue. I got a May '96 406L DT about a year ago that the wife has been using - day time use. I am now driving it and the head lights are not right.

My 1996 Peugeot 406 LX TD won't start, there's no fuel flow to the diesel injectors. I suspect the fuel stop solenoid is sticky/failed. There's a black square box on the nearside end of the injector pump marked Bosch , I believe that's the solenoid, but can't see how to get it off to replace it - any help greatfully received

Update.

Stripped the Timing covers off today and found that the previous owners mechanic or whoever had put the timing belt on one tooth out! (or it jumped, but looks unlikely).
Retimed the engine and she fired away lovely.

Now number three injector has started leaking from the body so I will be cracking that open tomorrow to see if there's any...

Out of the blue today, the battery charge light on my 2001 306 HDI came on.

I have just checked the voltage across the battery, and got the following readings

Engine off 12.9v
at idle 14.9v
at approx 2000 revs 15.2v
at idle with lights, heater and stereo on 14.8v

From the readings, it would appear to me that the alternator is doing its job, but...

Just wondering - I'm getting a bit of a clonk at the rear of my 406 on uneven surfaces, and I see that this model uses anti-rollbar droplinks at the rear.

Do these tend to create clonking, like the front ones on 306/405's?

It seems to be predominantly on the left side, and sounds as if it's coming through the floorpan (via the anti-rollbar...

Hi,

I have just bought a 1996, Pug 405 1.9td showing 123k on the clock, the trouble is the clutch pedal is really heavy, my old 306D was quite heavy but I can hardly press this one down, in fact my wife can’t drive the car at all. Is the problem likely to be the clutch or the cable, or maybe both? Would it be worth trying a new cable before...

After a few trouble free months of motoring, I am trying to work out my options for solving my uninterested non commital speedo.

My guess is either replace the little plastic gears and hope they last a while, which will involve the box coming off. Or replace the gear box (which will have new plastic gears in anyway by the time Im done!).

Surely this is a completely pointless modification. The 5-speed BE3 box on a 2.1TD has ratios matched to the torque curve of the engine. Fitting a different box is almost guaranteed to mean bad matching of ratios to the engine.

Plus... the number of gears in the box is not the important factor.. it's the top ratio. What might be a better mod...

has anybody any idea how involved the job of renewing a heater matrix is on a 405 (pre facelift model) without air con. Trying to plan ahead so I allow sufficient time to complete job as stress free as possible. Also, is there anything that usually breaks, seizes that I will additionally need to replace. Thanks

As far as I know, it's possible to do a pre-facelift model without removing the dash. There's various bits of glovebox you have to remove. You should get new O-rings with the replacement matrix. The only things you will have to damage are various rivets that hold the dash together. You'll need a rivet gun and some peel rivets. Or some self-tapping...

Talk about coincidence! I was driving along today and suddenly..

Turned out to be the brown lead on the thermostat housing :)

My 306's aircon has never worked.

I havent tried the switch, the only thing i have checked is the clutch on the aircon compressor, that works fine but only if i supply voltage manually to it.

Hi all,

The rear lights on my 306TD are currently giving me a bit of grief. If the indicators are used when the lights are on, the lights go dim. I understand this is caused by a bad earth - can anyone advise how to sort?

I tried wiggling the connectors a few days ago, but didn't actually think of giving them a good clean. Didn't really expect the connections to deteriorate I suppose :oops:

How do you do it?

I don't want to take the radio out of the car,merely to see if the aerial is fully plugged in,as I'm having intermittent radio reception,despite fitting a brand new aerial and base.

My 306 has recently developed a problem, basically what happens is when I accerate, my headlights and dashboard lights go dim, I've been told it may be something to do with an earth wire but I'm not sure what to do about it.

Yes, coming from the negative of the battery, and going to the engine block.

It attaches to the top of the gearbox ( not the engine block ) & then loops off & attaches to the cars bodyshell :wink:

I see from old posts that these two are often regular causes of problems.

Have to agree with that. The -ve one is worse than the +ve one, but they are both crap. Having changed both for decent brass clamp-type ones, my 405td spins it's starter noticeably faster.

I did exactly the same for my old 405.

The +ve one stretched & would just lift off the battery terminal :shock:

I cut both terminals off & soldered some...

Hi All,

I'm having a problem with my '95 106 1.0XN, Single Point Injection.

Basically, the fuel pump keeps cutting out. I've got the covers up, and tried a multimeter on the pump connector, and it would appear that it is the electrical supply to the pump.

Does anyone know what relay (if any) controls the pump circuit, or where it plugs in?...

ok. you can fault read ecu by earthing pin in diagnostic connector and light will flash a fault code. i think (long time since i have done one) earth pin for 3 seconds light will then flash once then pause then flash twice this gives 1 + 2 which is 12 start of sequence then earth again for another 3 sec then will flash another code.if it flashes...

I'm going to help my mate change the clutch in his 306 HDi 90 in a few weeks. Anybody done it and got any handy hints? I think it uses a standard push clutch rather than the TD's pull type, and maybe a hydraulic actuator? Also going to get the front wheelbearings changed at the same time, but we'll be taking the hubs to someone with a press to...

I am unable to remove one of my glow plugs. I don't know if this is because the 12mm head was slightly damaged in an earlier attempt to get it out, or if it is because it is well and truly stuck. The 12mm head is now completely rounded, and I cannot get it out with a pair of mole grips clamped on tight, as they just turn, and there is not enough...

Hey guys, im sure i read someone on here recommended fitting Xantia jets as my 306 ones are blocked / mangled.

Any ideas? I quite like the ones that haze the screen rather than 2 jets of water. If anyone has a pair they would like to sell on, please let me know.

The Peugeot 407 mists jets do NOT fit the ZX. The input on the existing ZX jets is horizontal from the opp end to the jet exit. The input on the 407 jet is at 45degrees in a upward directing horizontaly, at right angles to the direction in which the water...

:( I have had trouble with my daughter's T reg 206 1.4 for about 2 years now and am running out of ideas.
Every now and then, mainly when warmed up, the engine splutters and sometimes cuts out. It will normally restart but not always straight away.
