Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hello.

Basically the car isn't running right at all. It takes ages for it to boost and when it does it doesn't exactly pull like it should!

Tonight on the way home I had my foot flat to the floor in 2nd gear and it took like 10 seconds to get to 45mph!

Any ideas?

Where can I find a site which shows details and Model codes for the gearboxes used in the Peugeot and Citroen range.

IE: BE3 what models use these gearboxes and its ratio's

The BE3 was used in most BXs and Xantias and to my knowledge also in 405s and 205s (and possibly 406 as well?).
There is also a BE1, which is easily distinguished from the 3 due to the location of reverse. Reverse on the BE3 is across to the right and down directly below 5th gear whilst the BE1 is across to the left, lift the ring under the knob...

A mate just pointed out an oil patch on the floor by my car. after a long investigation and lots of smudges i ruled out oil, thought it was a loose sump plug as i did an oil change a few days ago. hi all

I have a problem with my clutch peddle some times it sticks half way
down especialy when in traffic in town
the car still drives ok and if i put my toe under the peddle it will come back up

what is the return mech on the clutch ? spring or other

the car is 2ltr HDI 90 lx estate on a W plate (2000)

Hi all, a 98 on 150,000m.
Most of the time the car runs fine. However occassionaly and becoming more frequent it's as though the engine misses a beat. It can be just once or continuous, when this is the case if I ease of the throttle and then accelerate again it clears it. It does not seem to make any diff if hot or cold or under load or not. yeah i think that is it,if ecu see's brakes on but still throttle opening it thinks fault with throttle potentiometer so shuts engine down for safety,try driving down the road left foot braking will go down to 1100 rpm and engine light on :wink:

It appears that the number 1 injector (working from drivers side) is leaking on my 96 405 1.9td estate. I have already tried changing any hoses around it to ensure they are not spraying however there is still fuel around the injector and the car is starting to smell of diesel after it has been running.

I have found what appears to be a good site...

Went to get the aircon in the 405 TD Hunter topped up today...only neither the garage nor myself could find the valves. And it was realy hot today :roll:

Oh well, never mind. Me and the aircon bloke were searching around the engine bay for an age trying to find the valves!

Saved the money from not getting the aircon fixed my getting a nice G-reg Vitara. Possible project one day in the distant future - Vitara vs XUD9TE!!! :twisted: :twisted:

Ok so what have I done!!!
Carried out a mini service on my neighbours 306. plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, oil, brake pads. Now I notice that the fuel gauge isn't working and it definately was before I touched the car..... So! What have I touched/been near too that would cause this... :oops:

My 99 Phase 2 Exective diesel has the clarion unit with 6 disk and JBL speakers (Normal spec)
My question is. Everytime I put the radio on I get an extremely loud noise that sounds like a stone hitting the windscreen but it comes from the speakers. It doesn't matter what level volume control I have.

I notice sometimes going over a bump the speakers crackle or if I tap the head unit in the dah (Nowhere near as loud) This is a defintive indication of a bad connection to the speakers somewhere.
It could in fact be related to the nasty thump on start up.
I'd say you should put your efforts into tracing the speaker wires and look for any damaged...

I was doing a cooling system overhaul today and stupidly overtightened a bolt on the thermostst housing in my 205GT (TU3) engine.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get the sheared bolt out or to seal the thermostat in now that the bolt is sheared?

Drilling? Sink another thread into the bolt and pull it out? Are there any botch job solutions...

Just an update for anyone intersted,
The stop soleniod was easy, payed peanuts from a breakers, don't go for a low miler go for a high miler as they all seem to have new ones. Obviously if it looks new that's the best. Don't be as stupid as me and drop the little plunger out and hence loose the spring! Had to use old spring. Make sure you clean...

I've just acquired a nice, tidy little 1994 205 Diesel Junior for my Dad. :D

PAS and all.. :wink:

One little problem is a weep of diesel from the governor spindle on the top of the Lucas CAV Injection Pump. Nothing serious yet but I want to resolve it.

In the past I've got hold of overhaul kits for these pumps but my old source is no longer...

I have a 1999 406 GLX. Yesterday, without warning, the battery died and the display that shows warning messages, radio settings etc went haywire and flashed up all sorts of warnings about high coolant temp, abs failure etc.
With a new battery installed everything works fine except the display unit which will now not show any data. I have replaced...

while i was driving today, i noticed that the gear has changed by itself into manual mode and it started moving between gears.

I opened the cover of the box by the stick, and noticed a spring laying there.

how do i open the whole area to get to the spring and the base of the stick?

It is indeed the 1.5D.
Just borrowing off friends at the moment with a view to buy, but the wife had a go in it and didn't like it.
It also has a bit of an issue with trying to get into gear. Not good, I'm guessing!
Still, as good as an excuse to get a TD Xantia or, even better, some form of flat bed pickup.

Took my car in for MOT today and the offside brake hose burst during the test.I,m not sure whether it was pressure on the footbrake or the roller test did it.The pipe had been chafing against the body for some time by the look of it and I had checked them and missed it. Might be worth checking!

I have looked in the rats nest that is the fuse box! I can;t see anywhere for a green connector for a relay (Assuming it would be fairly obvious). I can't see any missing fuses either which is a good start!

OK, its my lovely 96 605 sldt. I have a dead bulb in the Aircon speed dial. I have removed the 'twiddly knob' which pulls off, BUT it is held on by a retaining clip which is BEHIND the front face of the aircon control unit!

Hi to all.Been away a long time,now back home from Cornwall for a while.
Hopefully in the next few weeks i shall be selling my Xantia.Sticking with French cars though.Thinking about getting a Peugeot 406 est 2.2 HDI.I know about these as my Dad`s on his 2nd(110) after a 90 bhp.

Is the front anti-roll bar really needed?
What's the best way to get the ball joint out of the hub? (I have the feeling the answer to this is to take the car to the garage).

hi guys,

Would be nice to get some feedback on what is the better engine,
a Citroen XM or Peugeot 605 2.1TD engine?
I have recently purchased a N-reg 605 which suffered cambelt failure.
I have a choice of buying a P-reg Citroen XM 2.1TD engine which has covered 73k for £200
or a K-reg Peugeot 605 2.1TD engine which has covered 82k for £225....

Im not certain, but I'm sure I was told the citroen version has a bosch fuel pump rather than a lucas cav pump? Not a major difference if its true, but the bosch pump I believe runs at a slower speed and is less sensative to fuel viscosity?

I don't know of any other differences

Hi, have been redirected to this forum, as Andyspares's forum looks a bit quiet. :o

I’m seriously considering changing my car for a smaller 106 diesel. I’ve got a 205 D at the moment and I’ve been looking at the 1.5D as they have the lower tax band and I’ve probably get better fuel economy than my old 205.
I came close to getting a 106 1.5D M...

I had an M Reg 106 1.4d, horrid horried, BUT, it ran forever on a tankful of diesel even if you caned it! Doesn't go up many hill in 5th, or 4th for that matter!

Seem to have trouble selling it! GRRRRRR!

Afternoon all,

A couple of weeks ago after having my 306 back for a mere few days after a brake problem the gearbox decided it was going to explode it spectacular fashion. The car in question is a 1996 306 Xsi 2.0 8v.

I've been having trouble tracking down a replacement box, let alone a reasonably priced one but my research leads me to believe...

It took a little while but last weekend I got hold of a nice low mileage Xantia box for £70 and dropped it off at the garage expecting to have the car back by now.

Unfortunately the Peugeot-gods were not smiling on me and now I've been told it needs a new clutch (ideally) and (defintely) a new flywheel.

Hi guys,

I am not sure if a definitive answer has been posted about the limp mode on the 406 Td?

I have the 2000 model 406 estate and everyonce in a while I suffer from the anti polution warning followed by being limited to 3000 revs in any gear.

Sometimes if I stop and restart the car this clears the problem.

sounds like a possible throttle potentiometer problem,or loss of diesel high pressure sensor and ecu is going to default settings,when was in deaker did they give you a print off from diagnostic lap top of what fault codes were stored in ecu,did they report anything on your invoice?did they change anything?

Forgive me if this is an obvious query and result found elsewhere.

Had some long trips over this weekend 500 mls Preston and back, and today a 180 London and back (went thru the 190,000 today!!) and a week ago 500 Preston and back, daughter finishing at Uni so had to visit and see work then collect all as finished plus one more trip to do...

Yeah they are rare, So is the 205 version.

Japan didnt want them in the end so Peugeot sold them off in this country instead.

Anyone got any idea where I can get some clear silicon hose to replace to the fuel hoses in my 405?

I know I have a small diesel leak somewhere and want to try to pin down where, so would like to replace some of the dying pipes with clear ones so I can see the fuel.

I have just narrowly passed my MOT with a VERY intermittant speedo. I don't want to have the same problem in 12 months time, so I am starting the reseach now inorder to get a fix in place by the end of the summer.

I believe that it is an electrical feed from the speedo into the EMU/ECU. My mechanic disconnected it and couldn't see any obvious...

Not allen bolts.. I HATE them! I suffer them on the Formula Ford! I think now is the time to buy some allen sockets rather than just the keys!

Hi, I've recently looked at a 205stdt, very nice if you can find one.
As usual a few problems, appaling looking cam belt to start with, and usual minor scrappy bits.
Some thing that concern's be is the rev counter doesn't work.
Not that important but I wondered if this could be caused be a linkage to the engine or gearbox, or is it likely to mean...

my 406 hdi is playing up it started a few months ago when i got an antipollution fault on the centre display.I changed the fuel filter and it ran normally for a few weeks and then started running lumpy and starting from cold it chugged like running on 3 cylinders until you revved it until 2000 revs then it ran normal.Then pulling up at junctions...

sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Throwing away an EGR valve is a very wise idea.

But the intake manifold will also need a good clean out. You'll probably find several Kg of goop in it. (mixture of turbo oil and exhaust soot. mmmmm yummy)

HELP !!!

I hope somebody out there can help me,

I have a problem with my Peugeot 405 sri(1991)at the moment, I have lost dipped beam ! This started as an intermitent problem for a few months and now i have no dip at all. Side lights and main beam work fine, I've checked the earth contacts, changed the bulbs and the relays, i've even changed...

on my 1995 306 1.9 td i seem to have lost the torque and can here a 'blowing' sound from the front end.

I have had lots of people telling me many things such as cracked pipes which i cant find.

Just wondered if anyone had the same problem or any suggestions

On the way home on Sunday the drivers side headlight seems to have failed on my 405 (97, 1.9td, estate) , only the dipped beam has gone.

I have read a few times in various places that when one bulb goes the others tend to follow.

So do I replace all four bulbs now or do I do them as they go?

Just replace the blown one. I bet if you went out & bought 4 new bulbs the other 3 wont blow for ages :wink:

Ok gents heres one for you to help save me from dismantalling the whole car to find the problem. (405 1.9td 1995)

When i've got hard right lock on, a grinding/creaking noise come from the front through the front passenger foot well. It is more noticable when im reverse parking.

Also when braking heavily there is a kind of juddery grinding/...

New to the site, drive a 406 and have a 106 diesel.

Just acquired a 406 saloon 1.8petrol(p reg)
Its been serviced 2/3 months ago, i checked oil level after getting car and its half way up dipstick level. So im goin to do an oil and filter change and see if its using oil( dont think theres a leak) So whats best oil to use.

I remember a bang that might have been related to me closing the drivers window on friday night. But on saturday morning the motor whirrs, \but the window doesn't budge.

I suspect the cable, or the winding gear.

1) Does anyone know anythign about the 605 mechanism?
2) How do I extract the motor? I can unbolt it but I cant work out how to remove...

I have an update just incase anyone ever has a similar problem.

The mechanism is a seal unit, the cables have to be removed as well part of the motor assembly.

This is FAR from easy to do. I had to unbolt the central guide rail(You will know what I mean when you look inside the door!) which allowed me to unhook the cables from the roller guides...
