Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi,
If you have an early 12V engine then no, definately not.
The later 24V V6 was shared with Renault;
The Laguna 24V and Peugeot 406 V6 / Xantia V6 are all the same.
The Clio V6 is based on this engine but was tuned by RenaultSport / TWR.

I would first suspect the accumulator sphere - the gassphere that is located down on front engine block.

The cable has a rubber ball on it which fits into a rubber socket, this forms the seal between the engine and passenger compartments, the socket is really just a specialy shaped grommet and care must be taken to prevent it from leaving the hole it sits in as they are a right bugger to get back in again.
Look which side of the bulkhead the grommet...

Can't help really but just to say i 've got same problem with my XM and have just had it in the Citroen garage and they charged me £200 for investigating and didnt solve the problem so beware of it if you take it in to a cit garage, i have now given up so am hoping at some point to come across a solution.

Did you wire the front spears in phase? (plus to plus , minus to minus) If they are out of phase the resultant effect would be a lack of bass. Try swapping the cables on one speaker around, no harm will be done, see if the bass improves.

Look in the links section at tyresave, there is a tyre size calculator on that site, type in your current wheel and tyre size to find its diameter, then type in the sizes of some suitable 14 replacements, altering the width and/or profile to keep within a percent or two of the original diameter.
Don't fit tyres that are wider than any OEM sizes...

Had a problem yesterday ( caliper retaining pin came out ), and found the wheel bolts on both sides were too warm to handle for more than a few seconds, and the hubs themselves were very warm.
No noises on cornering, or rough suspension at the front, but they've got me thinking now !

Hello All
Recently did an engine oil and filter change on my 98 TD air-con hatch. The dip stick was showing mid way pre the change. When I drained the sump there did not look to be much oil in the container so I measured it and it was approximately 2 litres, I was expecting about 3.5.
This is the first time I have done an oil change on a xantia...

TD uses an inside-out clutch which makes the biting point near the top of the travel. If you are not getting enough travel the clutch will not disengage. The book says 140mm (IIRC, which I probably don't!) of pedal travel, but I think this is OTT for the TD. You should be able to adjust the cable - do it so that you get enough pedal movement to...

I would think its very likely to be wired for front fogs, don't know where the switch would go, on later cars with both front and rear ones fitted they are both switched by the main lighting stalk.
If you have a look in the general are of the fog lights you may see the cables taped up out of the way.

Have a good close look at the hoses and fittings about 10 minutes after you stop the vehicle following a decent run (enough to warm the engine up properly.)
I have found on more than one occasion that leaks on the return side of the cooling system, from the radiator back to the pump, will not leak when the vehicle is running or immediately after...

Chances are if it is a mount it will be the rear/lower mount. It's a bit pricey though because it comes with a bearing for the driveshaft to go through. Good old citroen decided to make an all in one mount/ bearing housing gaauuuud bles 'em!
It's about £50 / £60 to buy. I have heard of people pressing out the old mount and replacing it, but what...

I fear you have indeed damaged the caliper. The handbrake operates on the front wheels, and in order to 'reset' the self adjusting mechanism you must SCREW back in the cylinder. I suspect that you will have broken the handbrake mechanism, and you will find in a few hundred km's the handbrake will go out of adjustment and you will not be able...

I have recently had my 97 Xantia 1.9TD estate serviced. Just done over 100k so also had gearbox oil changed.
Since then, I noticed that when the engine/gearbox are cold like in the morning, it is hard to switch into 2nd gear (from 1st to 2nd as well as from 3rd to 2nd...). Once warm all is ok. I wonder if the garage maybe used the wrong type oil...

This may well be the same knock BX owners experience when they stop, then reverse. The noise in their case is caused by a slight looseness in the front calipers. When they brake, going forward, the brake pads are pushed to the bottom of the caliper. Then when they reverse, the pads are dragged to the top, causing a knock. If this is the source of...

Hi,
when I start to reverse in my '94 ZX 1.9D, I get a noticable knock, almost like some play is being taken up. Going forwards, there is nothing. It feels like something is worn. Before ripping it apart, is this a classic, known problem with ZXs. I'm wondering if its strut bearings or lower ball joins.

Memory is slightly rusty on these calipers, but from the sounds of it they are girling calipers, so the bolts will be hidden behind black plastic dust caps. I think they're t40 torx bolts, but they might be 6/7 mm allen bolts.

I don't know the answer to your question, but the ABS light can be extinguished for MOT purposes by unplugging the ECU and the green relay just behind it.

Had a quick look in daylight today, and the cable seems to go behind the engine.
Need to remove the sensor, and light to work with is non-existant until next weekend.
Can anyone tell me the routing of the cable from the front right abs sensor, in particular, where is this mystical connection that's supposed to exist before the cable joins the ECU...

Arrrgghhh - these f****g rear arm bearings
There would be a rear tracking problem on top of the tilted/leaning wheel - suspect that one side would affect both side's tyres.
The arm that tilts will tend to drag this side's wheel outwards as well - meaning the rear end of car will tend to turn a bit opposite during drive. This should in theory make...

Probably the rear height corrector is stuck or the link lever has come off. What happens when you move the height adjustment from low to high?

The spare plip I was given with the car never worked so I reprogrammed it my self (pointing it at the sensor in the roof with another key in the ignition switch ). Worked fine, however my other plip does'nt work now, any idea's.

Sorry i think your radiator is knackered as you say water pours from somewhere at the bottom of the radiator. It could also be the bottom hose joint or the hose itself.

Start with the obvious :
check the brake master valve fluid reservoir level.
Have engine stopped - work the pedal several times until it get's hard.
Then press down & HOLD the pedal down - while you start the engine.
You should then feel the pedal move up against your foot pressure - indicating the vacuum servo charges right after engine start.

Having read through the small print of one of those warranties (the name sounds familiar as well) I would say put the money in the bank.
It's a gamble either way, but with a little DIY knowledge there aren't many things which can't be fixed for under £250.
The obvious thing would be the cambelt breaking. But the chances of that happening are slim...

I think you can tell just by looking at the engine. An all alloy engine will look silvery in colour where as a cast iron motor will tend to be black. The XU6 1.6 XU9 1.9 are all alloy engines with wet cast iron liners. The XU10 2.0 has a cast iron block and a alloy cylinder head. Check your breathers. If you get a blocked breather you can end up with a pressurised crank case, once the engine stops the pressure disapates (hissing) then the hissing stops because there is no more pressure to escape.

A common problem with the ZX - all I have is the petrol guage light up!
They are normal bulbs which you can take out and change, but I wouldn't bother. Pay a bit more and get some superbright Whie LEDs and Resistors.
The LED's will look more of a lighter green and won't be quite so bright but they do work well - and you'll never have to replace a...

Hi,
I have a problem in that I have to hold the stalk in position to get a single wiper sweep as opposed to just moving it once. If I let go of the stalk while the wiper is in the middle of the windscreen it will just stop and sit there. All other modes work fine.

sounds like you might have an injector beginning to stick there gjb02.
If you take your car to your local citroen dealer then they can hook it up to their lexia/proxia machine and it will identify which cylinder has the misfire (saves trial and error).
Just remember that citroen number their cylinders from flywheel to crank pulley. Dumb i know but...

The throttle potientiometer directly reads off the position of the throttle flap.
If for any reason the potientiometer signals a faulty position back to the ECU - you could then get a lean running engine which is known to cause pinking.

I think the PCD and Offset are 4 x108 and et25. The ZX 16v came with 15 alloys. Plenty of Xantias and XMs came with 15 steels although no ZXs I think. The Xantia has 4 stud hubs of same PCD and offset so some 15 steels from a Xantia should fit, provided you fit the appropriate size tyres. eg stock zx volcane is 185/60x14 so on 15s you'd probably...

It's forced induction, and the boost pressure is controlled by a wastegate, so altering the air filter will make no difference what so ever to the power output. It MIGHT decrease the turbo lag by a few ms, and MIGHT mean you get full boost a bit earlier - i doubt you will notice the effect though. My understanding is that the 2.1TD is ECU...

Reflex is cheapest, Advantage is next, Aura more expensive and Volcane was lower and faster etc.

My turbo has started making a new noise, a bit like an electric razor at 3000 rpm and upwards, especially under hard acceleration. I haven’t noticed any air leaks or any drop in performance and the noise is still not very intrusive.
Any ideas what the prognosis is? (& how much).
