Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

before you give up on the pump i would clean the area well so there is no fluid around the union then make sure it is not coming from the union. if it is the union bonus for you but if it is not and it is leaking from where you said then it could well be a new pump.

Having had a good look at what's going on with my leaky hydraulics, it seems I made a mistake in assuming it was coming from the low pressure side of the system. It's not, it's on the high pressure side and it looks like a real swine.
The 3 litres of LHM I put in on Friday has gone, it probably went fairly quickly too, considering the froth I saw...

Bearing in mind the age of your Xantia it will have an anti sink sphere, if you look under the back of your car you will see one sphere in the centre and another positioned on the offside. The anti sink sphere is the one with a thin metal pipe going into the centre of it.

If you drive in reverse, and your speedo registers a positive speed then you have an electronic speedo - they just count impulses, they don't know which way you're driving! A mechanical one tends to try to go through the needle stop to register a negative speed.

I doubt a trouble potientiometer by this symptom.
The reason is that your acc foot will allways override any lower position on the throttle flap. But then again - a missing poti will indeed signal wrongly to the ECU - posibly thinking the throttle flap is closed momentary - then turning down fuel supply to injectors. But that would...

I know. I got offered £50 for my K reg Fiesta 1.1. It's got 12 months mot, 9 months tax and just had a new clutch. It's in nice condition.
Car's just seem to loose value. On a plus side I got offered £400 more than what I paid for my Xantia Estate even though I've put an extra 20,000 miles on it in only a couple of months.#

Sure its not the flexible gasket between the manifold and the downpipe?? Its a much more likely cause of failure than the manifold gasket itself. I've only ever changed one of these when I've had to take the head off for other reasons, and then removed the manifold and turbo complete (on the bench). Last time I did this, all the suds/bolts came...

My ZX TD has just started 'blowing rasberries' from the rear of the engine, which leads me to think a new manifold gasket is required. Looking at the bolts / studs needing removal fills me with dread, it certainly looks like they have never been touched in 12 years. Its called an 'Anti-sink sphere', but its actual purpose is to provide pressure to the rear brakes even if the anti-sink valve is closed. If it has failed the normal symptoms are the rear end dropping to the floor shortly after the engine is started and the STOP light goes out.

No. Whilst outwardly similar the N/A and turbo engines are really very different.

Not personally - mine is very much still in use! You should be able to get one from a breakers without too much...

I have a 1993 zx td and have recently changed the matrix on the car. I also have a 1998 xantia Exclusive the one with the different dash to the older ones. The matrix has now gone on this car, how much harder/differnet is it to do than the ZX berring in mind it has air con, air bags, etc.

YES !
I'm definate it's prime time for the pump !
- and get that leak corrected NOW - it's much more a (dangerous) nuisance than any real complicated repair
- no need to bleed anything else - as the LHM sitting in the lines to the brakes does not reverse - or get's shifted with air.
- may need the Citaerobics though :

It's my own fault, really. I should have detoured to the nearest LHM stockist this morning when the STOP light came on, but I honestly thought the car would make it back home to my own supply!
There's been a small leak at the low pressure side of the pump for a few months now, so I'm losing some fluid anyway, and it's checked and topped up...

Seems a simple deflector plate of some kind needs be installed.
Or simply a breather with a longer pipe under the breather cap.
What about clutch cable adjustment - does the clutch pedal rests sufficiently high over the carpets ?

I have recently purchased a 1999 HDI and found selecting 3rd and 5th in particular to be difficult. Local Citroen garage said oil was contaminated by water getting in through the breather. They drained and refilled and it cured the problem. With todays rain the problem is back. Anybody else had this problem and know of a fix - block the breather...

Your location is correct.
To help yourself, check around for leaks from pipes, clean everything off with a clean rag, and see where the highest point of LHM leakage is, this will then help you locate the problem.
The part your question is ( I believe ) the pressure regulator - this is the bit that you can hear clicking and buzzing every so often....

When you get out, the rear rises due to the LHM pressure remaining when the load is removed. This then allows some linkages to trigger the height corrector to loose some LHM.
I think everything is working ok, althought I can't be sure as I don't have anti-sink.

All very sensible but the spelling suggests that it is of US origin - a country not noted for its use of diesels in cars. I would guess that their diesel fuel is not as standardised regarding lubricity additives. Europe, being the home of the diesel, has much more experience than them and I don't think we need worry about lubricity...

cant help completly but the cat gets very hot anyway (upto about 1500 centergrade) if it has gone one thing you can do is to give it a knock to see if it has broken up inside. do the same with the back box.

Week ago last sunday, car was misfiring on way back home. Stopped to get petrol, and found smoke come out of body work, the catalytic convertor was glowing red! back box was causing the floor of boot to get very hot, and caused the smoke.

Welcome to the forum! A little bit more info about the car - is it hydractive, or just 'ordinary'? When it 'collapses' does it do it at particular times (eg when braking)? How is its service history - LHM been changed recently? When were the rear spheres last changed?

If its just a bit over the max mark then it doesnt matter to much. Has the engine got any serious oil leaks i.e. does it leave drops or puddles of oil on your drive or wherever the car is parked. If is hasnt then it must be burning the oil. Does the car put out any blue smoke.
However I must say that citroen state that 1 litre every 500 miles can...

hi
if it was a wheel bearing you would normaly here a whhrring noise not a squeling one.
i am assuming that the noise is coming from the wheels, have you checked the break pads inside and out as sometimes you will find that although they look fine on the outside the inside pad has worn down further.

Yes
Citroen seems to use ball links in the gearchange to most models.
These links dry out over time - making for faster wear and funny creaks.
Unhook the link - rub down any rust on the ball - then use a fat sticky multi-purpose grease.
If the link unhooks TOO easy - then you better start looking for a spare - as a missing gearchange linkage in...

I doubt it very much! Once you have taken the controls off the side of the XM seats then they are exactly the same size as the BX ones. Problem is the seats in the AX are pretty hard up against the doors (or at least they are int eh 'sporty' seat elation!). Think you will be pushing it. You could always get AX ones recovered, or get the later...

i had a diesel leak which thanks to big mac i was able to fix (leaky stop solenoid) but now the engine is very unresponsive the ony thing that is different is that the new solenoid had a little red rubber part on the dowel inside where as the old one did not any ideas

Hi Phil -
On the BX there was a mod on these strut's mountings - giving for different type struts around '85.
Could be the same situation with the ZX - but why not simply give GSF a call ?

What sort of clutch system does a 2 litre volcane have - push or pull?
My clutch is biting about 5 mm from the floor but there is pressure all the way through the pedal travel. Does this sound like a clutch adjustment problem or (please no) a worn out clutch?

You can try removing the roof panel and cleaning inside the lens that covers the recievers but it is pretty normal for you to have to be quite close to the car.

Whats the normal range on these things? I have to be really close to the car and pointing it through the window for it to operate. It's been like that since I bought the car in the summer (Only came with one) and I thought it was probably just due a new battery but if it is, would it have lasted as long as it is doing?

I've been a complete a**.
I've just put the engine/gearbox back in my BX17TZD turbo and I managed to snap off the inlet port on the pump. (Don't say a word).
The case is made of plastic.
Has anyone been successful in glueing the two pieces together.

Sorry folks, clueless newbiw just realised he's in the wrong forum!

The heated rear screen has suddenly stopped working in my L-reg Laguna hatch. The relay is OK and both side mirrors get warm when the button is pressed. I've metered the element and it reads (on my cheapo meter) zero ohms. If I disconnect the +ve connector and press the button I get a reading of 12V, but as soon as I re-connect it it reads 0V.

- then it would be the car's RHS drive axle gaiter

The sooted sparkplugs indicates the engine gets enough food - but can't digest it properly.
I'd suspect a nasty little problem somewhere in the ignition system. Give the ignition system a thorough overhaul - testing each HT lead with an ohm meter - looking for carbon tracks in dizzy cap etc. etc.
