Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Don.t know about ride quality but hissing sound is from flow distributor...
I have same sound and i read somwhere (i think from BX diy site) that that means that Flow distributor is worn out (last stage)...

It's under the inlet manifold - if you shine a torch down between the inlet tracts you should be able to see a pair of sender units more or less next to each other.
I believe one is the oil pressure warning light (the one that generally always works) and the larger one is the gauge sender, which can pack up but is usually either bad wiring or...

I seem to have the same problem . . . on a brand new heavy-duty battery.
Have tried monitoring battery drain with an ammeter, but drain has always measured 3omA or 370mA, neither large enough to explain the loss of charge that can happen overnight (sometimes).

Might the 30sec delay be in the unit itself?? It will know the ign is off from the ign feed going dead, and then have the permanent live to power it until it decided to shut down after 30 sec. If it's like the Xsara I've driven the shutdown is a slow fade and that must surely be controlled from...

Can anyone help, have berlingo (2000) fitted with standard philips 22rc200 stereo. Trying to sort out some previous messy wiring.
This stereo does things like stay on 30secs after ign off (normal) does anyone know the pin wiring for the ISO power connector. I can figure out the gnd, ign+ & permanant+ but there must be another pin for this '30sec'...

Hi, because the handbrake works on the front wheels when you get in or out of the car it is the rear wheels that turn slightly as the suspension levels out. So it is quite likely that the squeal on braking is being caused by the same disc brake.
If it does not clear up soon I suspect you will have to strip them out to clear any rubbish and or...

I don't know about the XM but I have done these on other motors, and also swing-arms when I had bikes in my youth, and I can't see it being any different-you struggle for hours with big vices, hammers, blowtorches, etc, and in the end give in and go to the local engineering shop where they charge you a drink and do it on the big press,old bush...

Whilst in Halfrauds today browsing for bits for my push-bike I had a look around Ripspeed. Amongst the shiny alloys and big speakers I came across the old TIM SUPERDASH range of gauges, something I thought went out of existance with whiplash aerials!!!

My ZX has 164k miles and runs sweetly, I think its a matter of fixing the small faults as they present and not getting a backlog, the engines are good for half a million miles with proper care. I also have owned and driven Hydro cars for many years but for an easy life the zx is hard to beat.

the wire colours vary on different models/years so its difficult to say if they are round the right way.it does have to be an excellent connection (soldering is best) so its more than likely just not done properly.faling that the rotary control rings under the steering wheel can cause problems.

The rack is leaking on the nearside steel push/pull rod. The seal is located on the main housing where the rod slides through. Can I replace the seal in situ? Can the rod be removed without specialist tools? If I remove it can the seal be replaced easily? Any help will be appreciated.

Check the basics first....battery terminals, engine to body earth?
Switch on lights, heater and window heater....does the problem get worse with everything under load? If so it is back to the basics again, check all fuse blocks and harness connections apart from the forementioned. Perhaps all this is obvious stuff but worth trying.

Find someone trustworthy (like on this forum) who is breaking a Xantia and can tell you it had decent rear arms. I guess these might sell for £40-£60 the pair and following the Haynes procedure you should change them without too much trouble in a few hours.

Check the pedal travel first. Between full height and floor you should have between 130 and 150mm. If it's out, go underneath and you will be faced with two nuts at the end of the clutch cable. The first is a locknut. Hold the larger nut with a spanner whilst undoing the locknut. Turn the larger nut to adjust the cable length.

Con, if the fuel shut off valve has operated it is reset by hand, no electronic gizzmo, just a gravity or shock job. It is under the bonnet in the offside rear quarter by the bonnet hinge I understand. Just push it down or that's what it says in the handbook

This is not abnormal.
You need to replace the crank pulley before the rubber in it collapses. If you look closely you will see it is a 2part pulley seperated by a ring of rubber. What has happened is outer part has moved out of whack with the inner part of the pulley. This is why the timing hole no longer lines up.

Seems previous owner was not aware that the pad peg (lug) MUST be aligned with either one of the notches in the piston.
If this is not done then the pad would be terribly misaligned.
Note that the piston MUST be screwed in (CW), while pressed lightly. If the piston is forced in, the hand (on XM : the parking) -brake adjuster mechanism located...

I have been waiting all week to get the Citroen taxed and use it.
Sop this morning, having taxed it, I drove it to the filling station, (funny, the steering wasn't coggy when I picked it up???)
And stopped at the wrong pump. Ok, move the car to the other side.
Turn key. Inert.
Push car. Turned out to be a corroded terminal on the starter...

You can check the resistance of each plug. If it's good, resistance should be less than 1 ohm. You can also use an ammeter from the battery to each plug. Each one should draw 12 amps. Without a tester, you'll have to remove each plug in turn and test it across the terminals.

I think that one of them is not working properly because it seems to mis-fire and is a bit smokey for a few seconds on a cold morning.

They're an all cable affair so likely that one has come unclipped or broken, fairly easey to get at though so don't sweat too much, save all that for when the matrix goes

Usualy an uncooperative microswitch in one of the front door locks, if not that, a broken wire at the point where the cables go from the body to the door.

I sold my 2.0 8v auto at 120k, never had any real major issues with it, just rountine service items. A few minor problems, I had to clean up the idle stepper motor, replace throttle cable, heated side mirror failed, headlamp washers packed up. It got through 3 sets of front discs and 5 sets of pads, 2 sets of rear pads and 2 exhaust back boxes....

my 95 zx 1.4i is exactly the same. Changed the temp gauge sender on mine, it made no difference. ive tended not to worry unless it goes in the red. Garage said there's no problem

The clip merely pulls off, its curved to lock the end of the flex, a good wire brushing and a squirt, they are tight though.

Well - that's the rear subframe mounts on the ZX done. None had actually parted company, but all looked a bit perished, and they had never been changed before.
Unfortunately, I could not shift the bottom damper bolts, so it was a struggle getting the top front mounting bolts in, until I came up with a solution:

Well, sounds like quite a bargain to me. Re the performance, I suspect it needs carefully introducing to a bit of speed to clean the negine up a bit. Also just flooring the pedal in diesel in not the quickest way to get along, the most expensive without doubt though. After finally fixing my clock problem (Thanks fellas) I can't get in the bl**dy thing now, as my drivers side door lock has gone u/s loads of key waggling and it may open after about 5-10 trys, as i never use the passenger side lock and this works ok, can i swap them or are they handed?

Its the same 1.9TD as found in the ZX,306,406 Xantia etc. You have to look for one after V reg 99> to get the HDi engine, which command much higher prices.
The old 19TD is a reliable lump if looked after. At 74K I'd expect to see evidence of the timing belt having been replaced, and the big 72K service done. I'd also be looking at the condition of...

Anti roll bar drop links. Cheap to buy and easy to replace, but you might need the 'assistance' of an angle grinder to get some of the nuts off....

Hydraulic tappets means self adjusting tappets, which means no shimsing work after a decoke. The hyd tappets are located where you would find the usual shims, and they also look like a large shim.
Apart from the double cam & count of valves, and the hyd tappets, it's like any other head job, yuo may have tried on earlier 8valves.

My 2002 HDiSx Synergie's fuel economy has taken a nose dive. I used to get 38-40 without too much difficulty but recently it dropped to under 30. Rear brakes are fed off the rear suspension. If you jack it up without it being in high suspension the arms will drop and the HC will bleed off all the pressure from the rear suspension, and you will have no rear brakes. If you have it in high suspension there should be plenty of pressure of the brakes! If you were in high and got no brakes you...
