Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi All. The sunroof on the ZX Aura seems to have become very slightly missaligned somehow. When closed there is about an 8th of an inch gap at the front on the passenger side, and the roof doesnt go right down flush with the rooftop on that side at the rear, it is as if the roof has been forced back slightly on that side. If the pulsing is all of the time and not when you are locking wheels (i.e. in gentle braking and moderate) you've got the dreaded pulsing pedal problem.

Dan when you say raod noise, do you mean noise from the tyres or is it noise from the engine side of things? Where abouts is the noise? is it louder over certain roads surfaces etc. Sorry for all the questions but it could be just worn tyres.

Every car I've owned has a gush of air entering the fuel tank when I open the filler cap. It's never caused me any trouble...

Just calming down after driving my mum's Xsara. Everytime I have to use that thing it makes me mad. Really mad. Its an awful bloody thing. There is nothing right about it but one of the worst things is the 1000/4000 rpm switch that takes the place of the throttle on a decent car. The ECU engine coolant temp sensor (CTS) is responsible for the correct choke action.
However if the CTS were at fault, then it would most likely be disrupted (hi ohmic), which in turn is read by the ECU as a cold engine. The result would be a richer mix with hot engine, which most likely the Lambda sensor would tell back the ECU, and then the...

NO!!!
The best is 54mpg,the worst,22mpg.Although that was in Italy along the coastal motorway to Verona with a caravan.Up,down,tunnel.Up,down,tunnel.......You get the idea.
I average about 40mpg week in week out through a mixture of driving.

Just got an amazing 65.4 mpg coming back from Westo/s/Mare at a very steady 60mph, Very boring but never had my cards on me to get any more fuel (Doh) Orange light on for most of the journey, Strange thing is going averaged 90-95mph and it only took 20 minutes more to get home, I've treble checked the figures !!!!!! Can anyone beat this!!

All of the BX rear cylinders I've replaced (quite a few in days gone by) have suffered from terminal exterior corrosion - but that could be due to the enormous amounts of salt they put on the roads over here in the winter.

Those with estates are beginning to find this a problem, because they are of a different size, 37mm as opposed to 35.

Sounds about right, the only step you may have missed was to check the LHM level. If I was being pedantic, I might say you should have lubricated the 'o' rings with LHM before spinning the new spheres on.

De-pressurised the system as Haynes manual says, removed sphere, put new one on hand tight, then re-pressurised and did Citroebics.

It's worth a go, but probably won't make a difference. It's much more likely to be a caliper that needs stripping, freeing up and copper greasing. Check that the rubber boots are intact and securely fitted as well.
A brake fluid flush won't go amiss while you've got the wheels off. Of course - when you go near them, the bleed nipples will snap off...

The rear calipers are held on by two hex bolts, there are not torque bolts on them.
When the corrosion happens behind the caliper, it pushes it away from the suspension arm usually at an angle. This means that your pads won't have been in the right place on the disc and won't have been at the right angle either. If you're lucky the discs will...

Well, a clutch job on a Xantia TD is often the thick end of £400 add to that the cost of a 2nd hand box (what makes you think the main shaft has gone?) and you are not likely to see much change out of £600. That will buy an N or P plate TD with average miles - add another few hundred and you will get a really nice one - some clear thinking is...

The Evasion was called the Synergie for the Uk market, and we got them here with 2.0 8v petrol engines, 1.9 Turbo Diesels, then 2.0 HDi engines in the later ones. They are the same as the Peugeot 806 and Fiat Ulysee bar minor styling details.
For some European markets, you could also get the Evasion with 1.8 8v or 2.0 16v petrol engines, 2.0...

although they dont test the abs, if the warning lights on I think it can be failed on it as this happened to me. Turned car off and back on and the intermittent light stayed off and it passed. Of course this year it also passed however the MOT was just after I had the dash apart and was fiddling with the dash bulbs say no more

My light came on last year.Took it to a independent garage.Said it was the contact rings on the steering wheel.With the diognostic check & fix was about £80.Not to sure about diy.Most likely to be the steering wheel though.

I've got a 1996 Citroen Xantia as a 2nd car runabout thing.
Just as I'm trying to sell it,the Airbag warning light has started to flash.
This kind of puts people off buying it...

All it needs is a couple of litres of LHM by the sound of it! Anybody round that way better avoid white Xantias without brakes though... Beggars belief that people will put them selves in such situations though, and then advertise it on public web sites. (shakes head in disbelief)....

From memory, that sounds about right. (I am not inclined to take the dash out again to find out!) I assume we are talking about the little ecu that the control pot connects to. There isn't much to it, power, sensor and pot plus one wire from the relay, which engages the clutch. Being Citroen, there are likely to be several manufacturers.

The air and fuel filters should get to 12.5K no problem, maybe even 25K.

The HDI engine only requires filter changes every 12,500 miles.
I know that you can get extended oil filters but what about the air and fuel filters surely standard filters will not last the mileage?

I'd basically look for the odd one out (resistance) making sure that the wires are moved whilst testing. Where are you? I could put my code reader on it if you are not too far from Langley or North London. Its somewhat easier than messing about with resistances because it will even show the speed registered on each wheel when driving and whether...

Modern Citroens and Peugeots share the same offsets and PCDs, and the wheels are pretty interchangable.
Whether you can fit the particular set of alloys is a matter of wheelarch clearance and rolling radius with the tyres on.

I recently purchased some Total transmission BV SAE 75W-80W new forumla gear oil from GSF. I'm just wondering whether this oil is GL-4 or GL-5. I tried the Total website and couldn't find any specs for this oil.
I want to change the gear oil in my Renault Megane gearbox and wonder if the Total BV oil is suitable.

Here in DK we can get a ZX CV joint from approx UK£52 (incl. VAT) at cheapest.
Makes a complete axle from GSF a real bargain !

My CV joints are going on my 73K ZX. I have had a look at GSF's catalogue and I can find CV boots, but no joints. Can anyone advise
where I can get the joint, do I need to get the whole drive train post differential? Also how much am I looking at to get the spares I need?

The 309 was available with the normally aspirated 19D engine, and in 1988 or 89 until 1992 they also offered a Turbo diesel, this used the BX 1.7TD engine.
The 309 is basically a 205 with a slightly bigger body, underneath they are much the same.

its not that bad, i took about 2 hours to remove and refit one but it can be a little awkward with the weight towards the front so get someone to help lift it up. its held in with six 10mm nuts, the back of the headlining is held (i believe) with mastik and can be cut with a stanley blade. the rest of it is various torx screws and cross heads...

I haven`t needed to put any in since may 03 when i had the rad fixed.Flushed,new coolant etc..
Done about 15k since,not used a drop.
When i got the car,i had to top it up,but soon found the header tank cap was faulty.Put a new one on,then the rad went.Been fine since then.
He may find the cap is very slightly leaking,no visable signs on mine,until...

A friend puts in half a pint every 3 months (5000 miles). This hasn't got any worse in 2 years. No visible leaks, smells or signs of HG problems.

Why not try checking the resistance at each sensor? In the event you don't get a pin out it may be your next choice to getting an ohms reading on each sensor.

Is it making any noise at the front - if so, maybe one or both drop links have failed again? The spheres could have done as well. Have you tried Citaerobics? Tested the height correctors? Generally, any crud in LHM ends up in them after flushing.
I would not bother adjusting ride height for 10mm.

I think it must be a miss print!You wouldn`t lose 15bhp by having a/c.Before ihad mine boosted,it put out 92bhp with a/c.The same as without a/c.You do lose 1-2bhp when a/c is on,but not really enouth to notice.135bhp sounds like a 2.016V non turbo(i take it the Activa is turbo!)

Hi folks, there is a tick every 13 seconds from the front adn i'm assuming its the accumulator sphere. Also could explain pulsing brakes and overflowing LHM. Now i'm not too sure on what i need. Is the Activa sphere the same as other Xantia's? Will i need spair LHM? Also would really appreciate a quick how to on removing and refitting.

It can't be done insitu, in fact it is doubtful that it can even be done by a normal car mechanic, it will need a fridge/air con specialist to do it.
The belt you have on should be a 5 rib serpentine belt that is about 1275mm long as it goes via a jockey wheel as final adjustment.
Remove the jockey wheel and put it somewhere safe until you get...

After investigating a tinkling noise around the auxiliary belt area, I have discovered that the air con compressor on my 2.1TD Xantia has a loose pulley, suggesting that the bearings are shot. The clutch plate appears to be sound, and the pulley is silent when the air con is on. Searching this forum indicates that others with a similar problem...

Thats the hydraulic regulator, the end cap of the regulator is held in place by a wire circlip and are difficult to extract because the end cap (after removal of the bolt and plate) has to be pushed in against spring pressure while the circlip is enticed out.
If you can do that you need a viton o ring of the appropriate size.

I've noticed after recently renewing the offside suspension sphere hydraulic pipe because it was leaking, that now I have a leak from the part that is fixed to the accumilator sphere.
It appears to be leaking at end where there looks like a metal plate secured by a 11mm bolt head.

If it's a '97 Xantia, it's likely to be pre-facelift model, in which case, the fog lights come out easily. From '98 onwards, they're b******* to get out. Don't know about the lens on it's own, but GSF do the complete unit.

According to Haynes, the timing belt should be renewed 48000 miles or earlier if:
- contanminated with oil
- noisy in operation(scrapping noise due to uneven wear)
Since it is not an expensive replacement compared to cost of repair in the event a belt breaks or slips in service, it's wise to change it at intervals recommended by Haynes or every...

tell me - are you honestly & seriously prepared to invest UK£ *1500* in rebuilding your engine ? - for your 10y's old (or more) AX ?
And that's just the engine rebuild - then you first have to remove the engine - and refit it when job done. Unless you find another donor engine.

I've spoken to LAD & they'll do the whole thing for 1500 which includes uprated Cams, port polish etc etc etc & that bumps up the power to 115 from 85 as standard.

I would have thought that if the boost pressure was too low, it would be due to a fault, like a sticking wastegate, so it would not be a good idea to try to cure it by adjustment, in case the fault clears. JMHO

Does anybody know the ratio of turns on the adjustment screw on a KKK Turbo wastegate to psi increase in boost? I am going to measure the boost this weekend and may adjust it if it is below 1 Bar.
Also is there an easy way to adjust the wastegate as the access in my 1.9TD Xantia is somewhat limited to say the least.
