Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The fan speed module is in the earth path of the blower motor, which means the +12V is feeded to one side of the fan (via fuse F2), and then the other side is earthed via the speed module, which in effect is an electronic variable resistor.

I doubt being run dry would kill a hydraulic pump. You'll find if you prime the pump it'll probably start pumping again

Welcome nog.
If you have 266mm diameter disks,the minimum thickness is 18.5mm.New thickness being 20.4mm.Thats acording to the Ha! £s book of lies.Doesn`t say what they should be if you have the larger disks,283/286mm i think.
Disks dont wear as much as the pads do.You could maybe get 3/4 pad changes from 1 set of disks.They will last for a fair...

Mines the same.Just been looking at it now.In the passenger footwell,take the carpet off from under the dash,you will then see the heater unit.Have a look for a thick red wire that comes out of the housing & into the other side.I have found the connections to be loose on mine.If i give the wire a wriggle the blower works.Looks like i will have to...

i have an M reg xantia 1.8i that has an intermittent heater blower, sometimes it works when I turn the ignition key to to on but when I start the car it stops and sometimes it doesn't work at all, sometime it will run for a while then stop, then start again and sometimes it wont work at all, any help would me apppreciated, thanks

The primer is built into the top of the diesel filter housing, its like a black button, the diesel filter will be mounted on the inner wing if the car was made pre 1992 when they swapped over to the primer bulb and filter on top of the thermostat housing.

Hi Dave -
I believe this topic has been discussed before in several postings, try the search button.
I really suspect that you not only have a leaking radiator, but even a clogged radiator which degrades the coolant flow badly.
This in turn causes hot spots in the cylinder head, and thus an overpressure (caused by spot boiling), which again...

Anti-roll bar bushes maybe, does it still happen on wet days, if not probably the bushes.

I have one 16V, Adrian and his Dad have one each - there's a whole raft of us on the 16V board, quite a few 16V owners have a second BX I believe.

My Activa has snapped the O/S rear anti-roll bar mounting bolts twice. I am now wondering whether the rigidity regulator electrovalve is at fault or is it the suspension ECU. I am aware that there are 3 electrovalves fitted but I can exclude the front one as that end works fine.I don't know how the ECU works but doesn't it work the whole system...

presuming its the same as the 16v which it probably is as I see no reason why it wouldnt be, theres the mount which is in 2 bits I think and the bearing is seperate and goes in between them then the large nuts go on the top of that.

Why is it when I service my '97 TD and have the doors and bonnet open for an hour or so the alarm stops funtioning,and cannot be re-armed.
I have now found if I disconnect the battery for ten minutes or so and then reconnect it, as soon as I shut the bonnet the alarm goes off and I can disarm and re-arm as normal.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I've thought about this, and think its a lot of work. The Xantia 1.9TD uses the BE3R box with the famous pull clutch (release bearing is part of cover plate). I know that you can mate the 1.9TD unit to the ML/ME5 type box as Citroen did it in the Dispatch/Jumpy vans. These use a conventional clutch arrangement. To get the ML5T into the...

You will need an angle grinder or a nut splitter, don't bother trying to undo the nuts, you will be wasting your time, just go straight in with the heavy mob. Other than that a fairly easy job.

At first glance, it would seem to be the wrong belt, but I've just looked at some old 2.1 belts and they are indeed 149 teeth. If it's of any help, the measurement of the (old) belt is 1430mm. It might just be worth a check.

All you need to do is fit a BX GTi 8v downpipe, job done. Its a big long thing that includes a small muffler. It then joins into the interpipe (hockey stick) which goes to the crossbox which goes to the rear silencer!
I'd budget for an interpipe too, could be a nightmare to separate the old one from the catted downpipe, they are quite cheap.

easy tom, I used the TZD clutch, box and flywheel, removed and swapped all engine sensors (temp and electric dipstick) used the bx alternator mounting bracket. only technical bit was to remove the vac pump from the cam end and fit pulley to drive HP pump, had to block off oil return (piece of M10 bolt and silicone) fit a seal to cam end, have end...

What did you need to do to a poor innocent BX to make it work. I guess the mountings, intercooler etc are all in the same places but it is always the peripheral bits, Rad, driveshafts clutch linkage and exhaust usually that give the problems. Go to Speed factor, i think i know one of their enginners...
Could be algorythm related, not being correct for thew engine. have them try the 406 algorythm (with mux)

If the suspension is harsh then the spheres are the most likely candidate so it's a good place to start.
ABS light on is usually a sensor or corroded connector, you will need to check them with a meter, they should read around 1k ohm. Do a search for plenty of info on both these problems.
V6's are very nice, but you'll need you own oil well:-)...

hi i have a r plated xantia that is due for its mot.
bought it a year ago and have done 30k since then.
ok hears whats wrong the front end bounces around,have been told its the sphires, is this dificilt to repair.is there any thing else i should look at/replace.

Probably the only difference might be that one has cutouts for spot lamps and the other hasn't.

No - faulty sensor far more likely. Why don't you check sensors first - plenty of advice on how to do it on here recently, or take it to a reliable independent.

There used to be one called the Dis-Car-Nect Which had a knob on it for connecting/disconnecting the battery - bit of a favourite of the mainsrteam classic crowd. It comes with a bypass fuse as it's intended as an anti-theft measure (lets clocks, etc run, but fuse blows if you try and start it - ditch the fuse and its an immobiliser).

Does the intermediate pipe listed on GSF fit where the cat currently fits ? (I think that the cat is due to fall off.)

Normal, all three I've had have been like this.
Speaking of HA2, does anyone know if the centre spheres have any damping effect or are they just an extra 'spring' with damping being taken care of entirely by the corner spheres?

When I ran a 1991 BX Athena I could put the ride height lever to the Intermediate Height position and the car would drive and ride almost as normal.
If I do the same on my Xantia it is as if the car is on the bump stops straight away, and one could not drive it at anything much above walking pace. The car rides perfectly at ther normal height...

Ooooh tricky....
My philosophy is that it's almost always cheaper to keep a car on the road than buy another one.
You could get something cheap, but you may end up with a dog that still needs big bucks spending on it.On the other hand you could get a much newer car - but that won't save any money, it just might be a bit easier to budget.

I have a xantia sensation 1.9 TD. Just got the MOT for 12 months.
It's done 107K mileage.
I am in Negative equity to the tune of about £800.
To do it up to be reliable over the next 12 months it will cost around the 900£ mark, spheres, timing brake shoes.
I have a year left on the finance but am not sure how long the repairs that I know are due...

Where can I get new exhaust clamp bolts for 2.1 TD XM. I have just removed the engine after spending blood sweat and tears cutting two, very rusty (and rounded off)flex-joint clamp bolts.
I have looked on GSF but can't find them listed, or are they listed under a different name?

Owing a C5, and taking into consideration the diferences between the 2 HP systems (mechanical/electro-hydraulic), the C5 has an extended life span of it's spheres (new membrane material and different hydraulic fluid), and the integrated electric pump/distributor/accumulator assembly ( firing only when necessary) should also increase the time...

Im seeking a exhaust pipe, the Cat is ok but the pipe that runs from it to the end box has 2 holes in the rear section of it. I have found a site that lists this section as a spare.

its listee there as a CN474V but Im unalbe to find a phone number or a price for this item, does any one know of a supplier that does this ection??

Start with the mounts. I am not aware of this being a Xantia fault so hopefully the problem is not gearbox related. R.

It only slips out of 5th when the revs are dropping and the car is going round a corner.
There is a fair bit of movement on the engine mounts (quite a lot)
Could the engine mounts cause this or is it knackered selector forks?
Any other suggestions.

Nah your not crazy,
it's just fun tinkering with cars (when SWMBO allows ). As soon as the BX is on the road and there's not much to tinker with you'll probably go buy another project (BX 16valve series I, R5 turbo, CX turbo etc )

My Xantia is well about as comfortable as well a spring car if not worse. Now if i am driving along and i put the height up a notch i get this loverlly floating ride/feeling. Then when i put it back to normal it the backend drops and it goes all nasty again.
What is it that is wrong? Height corrects? if so how do i repair , i do not even know what...

Not heard of that im afraid. The 16v does seem to have issues with its fuel tank though. My gauge will go from 1/4 to empty on cornering and when competing at Goodwood before, it got fuel starvation down the back straight at 100+ when it had just over the empty line left, ie 2 gallons or so but misfired badly. Put some more in and it was fine for...

The test results for a 1.9TD in 1995 give a BHP figure as 92 and a Govt MPG figure at 43. By 1997, when they'd added a cat and EGR, the figures had dropped to 90 and 40.

My middle exhaust pipe has corroded. My local Citroen man says I should have a new Straight through pipe, instead of a pipe with a Cat.
This should give me a few more Bhp. Does anyone know how much more i should expect by de-catting in this way.

Its similar to the one I have, and very efficient at shifting spheres it is too!!!
I bought mine from a local spares shop for about nine quid, and it was packaged as a franklin tool- the same people who do the cheap diesel locking sets and BX balljoint socket.Any half decent motor factor should have them.

The interior air temperature sensor and alarm warning lamp on the dashboard(the one to the far left)has a small fan inside the mounting which made 120db noise, so i took ths switch out and pushed the fan further inside and that stoped the noise.
Will this harm my inside temperature.

About a ton in my case!I got a load of turf about easter time.Only about 1/2 a mile up the road.Thought i`d get the whole lot in one go.Put the rear seats down & loaded it right up.To my surprise(not!)the rear didn`t rise.On the way home,the rear mudflaps were dragging on the speed humps,& the front of the car was all over the place.NEVER...

Morgan, my immediate thought is an air leak allowing the fuel to run back toward the tank. The 'loads of smoke' could be a puzzle or it's a sign the heater plugs are on their way out or gone even. How many miles on the clock?
You may have a couple of issues here and the air leak was the last straw.

I have a 97 P,xantia 1.9tdi. It's a bu88er to start when cold. If I squeeze the fuel bulb thingy under the bonnet, it'll start fine, just loads of smoke.
Does this mean it's a blocked fuel pipe? or air in the fuel? or fuel injectors? or something completely different.
This is nearly everytime when the car's cold, but also sometimes when...

I could not claim that this is a cheap garage but the standard of work is excellent.
The clutch should be replaced as a 3 part kit. You'll also be in for 2 litres of gearbox oil and 2 diff seals. I personally always replace the gearbox input shaft seal whilst the box...
