Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I wonder how he would tune in the engine anyway
- cause it would not help with new plugs, air/oil filter etc - the usual tune up service items - and the valve clearance & ignition timing is always correct
He might try an offset on the cambelt

The brake pads won't make the stop light come on, and the lack of pressure (as you mention in your other message) won't prevent the engine from starting !
Whatever is preventing the engine from starting has nothing to do with the brakes.

Do a simple test :
Have engine idle - handbrakes on - suspension to LOWEST height.
Now check the click interval again.
I suspect it will go up in the minutes range.
If that is true - then the front suspension cylinders (struts) are leaking out the pressure in the overflow return rubber hoses (the 2 hoses seen on the strut inside wheel arch).

I wonder how sound the hydraulic system of my BX trd turbo is. Fact is that the interval of the pressure regulator ticks is about 15 seconds. I read that this must be about 60 seconds or so. N62332 or N60132 would appear to be the front discs, you'll need a pair.
N64021 or N64036 would appear to be the front pads, you'll need one set.
The two discs are the same price, so only Jon will be able to tell us what the difference is, as for the pads, they'll be different manufacturers (hence the different prices).

I can't seem to be able to identify absolutely the correct GSF parts for my 1997 Xantia 1.9TD Estate on the webshop - I've chosen the following so far, have I got the right ones?
Front Disc (283mm, vented): N62332
Front Pads : N64021
I assume that the disc's are sold singly so for a full axle, I'd need two disc's and one set of pads,...

crws, if you disable the internal sensors with the dash button, hold it in until the lamp glows steadily and then set the alarm, does it still play up? If not then the sensors have failed. Just didn't like being disconnected and they are old enough now to have failed.
If it still plays up then resetting everything by disconnecting the battery may...

Ive just fitted a new drivers mirror to my p reg xantia and now my alarm keeps going off. I had to strip alot of the wiring and door down to fit the mirror, but i have checked all cables and plugs and all are well. Isn't that the way the pedal should work (self adjusting or not)? Sitting on top of its travel? That's the way it works with them .... the pedal is always quite higher than the other. Just something to get used to!
The cable on the P-reg is always adjusting through the spring on the clutch itself! Its the way it is designed!

Use the online catalogue to find the correct stock number. If the paint is still in good condition, you should find the same 'N' number on each sphere together with the manufacture date.

Its a 2.0 8v 94 SX, and spring suspentions feel better and smoother then on this car. It was hydraflushed, new LHM, new spheres, and it still does not have this floaty feel i here people speak of.

Anyone any idea how long it takes for the radio to come back to 0000 to allow the code to be entered ?. It is showing ---- and has been like this for 18 hours at this stage. The last time it came back to 0000 it only let me put in the code once ( which was still wrong )

Used mmine for a good reason last night - it was foggy!
Went to use them again tonight (foggy again) but they didn't work, I changed the blown 25A fuse & actually saw that one blow too.
Could it have chafed a wire through?

Forget about the a/s sphere.
You still have a simple mechanical problem with moving the HC's valve rod. The HC is a slide valve, and in principle will last forever as it does not contain wearparts. But external problems in the linkage like dirt & rust may make it stick in some positions.

linkage all smooth moves up to full and to high

the block wont warp -
If it did, you would likely get hydraulic lock from coolant in the cylinders.
As you have timed the axles using lockpins - you would think you're dead on.
BUT
Shane (Australia) has been there - tried it - and found a very interesting issue on timing the cambelt on Xantia's. It's at the buttom of this story things are...

Hi,
After a recent head skim on an N reg, Xantia 1.8 16v, the car will now refuse to run. I have timed the engine up with the appropiate timing pins on the cams and block, while it turns over it tries to fire but also back fires !! It has the wet liner block too, could this warp too??

The bent arm from the Xantia rear h/c has a slot, a square hole and a cut out on the end.
Which one takes the pin from the lever and which takes the two ends of the return spring?
As you can probably gathered I took the h/c off to overhaul and can not work out to get it back.

I think that if you have used an engine flush then you will need to replace the oil and filter a couple of times in the first 500 miles. It sounds as though with that kind of milage an engine oil sensor has probably gone kaput. It's probably gotten all the dirt and smeg out of all the sensors thus lighting up the dash warning. 10W 40 sounds a...

Mate,
If it's leaking from there, I think the problem is much greater than something a bit of thread tape will fix.
I've had that 12mm bolt completely out & no LHM has come out.
I'd be more inclined to think it may be a leak up from it that is dripping down on it.
That bolt really only releases an internal pressure that allows the return line to...

If you set them both to be on does the problem go away? sounds to me like a corroded door switch that works for a while but as the current flows it becomes intermittent, Why the F*** they cant fit a proper microswitch is beyond me I've had similar probs at various times with cits going all the way back to the first DS I worked on in 1969...

You can't get the gaitors on their own but you can get a repair kit which includes the gaitors and slider for £25ish, very model/year dependant though as there are quite a few different brake sizes fitted to Xantias.

Have you made sure the drain holes are clear ( a thin piece of flexible wire is quite useful in these situations) also have a look at the ruber sealing strip and se if there are any obvious signs of perishing or cracks. I use some stuff called creeping crack sealer on my caravan and have used it on the windsceen of a Marina before now with good...

Does your car have a control unit for the positive supply? In Peugeots it is usually a blue gubbins close to the battery. If this is faulty it can cause such symptoms. The starter switch is usually fused (Peugeots is same fuse as glowplugs).

The strut mounting is a one piece casting with the sphere screwed into it. There are several different types according to model which appear to be between £80 and £90 from Mr Citroen. Might be worth trying a breakers, but you'd need to be sure you got one from the same model as yours. I have heard of this happening before but don't know if it's...

Hi All
Just been reading a thread on here about the BX register, and wondered how many of us have XMs.
As there were only something like 45,000 sold in the UK, there probably aren't as many remaining as the BX, but it would be nice to know how many of us have them.

Lurve your log in handle unfortunately or coincidentally, it also just about describes the job you've embarked on; 'tain't nice!!
When I did mine a couple of years back, I did like we all do & thought it would be nice if I fitted a new boot. To help maintain the life of the rack seals they have to be done to prevent water and grit grinding them...

When I've replaced all the spheres on my Xantia its always had completely the opposite effect, the car always stays up for longer.
I wonder if you've been sold a dodgy sphere?

Hello, me again folks.
Recently had all 6 spheres replaced on my 2000 HDi Xantia. All was well till this week when it has stopped locking up .
Usually switch engine off, car drops about an inch and no more, ever even if left all week.
Now car is drooping after several minutes and is on the deck in the morning (only rear end - not front) Also drops...

If you can't find anything, then driving it until whatever it is breaks usually identifies the problem!
It sounds like something's rubbing to me-mudflaps, loose cables, wonky wheeltrims rubbing on the tyre, etc?- which may only make contact when the cars on its wheels and not jacked up.
I spent ages trying to track down a speed variable clicking...

Although both Citroen and Valeo say that the clutches chnage from the metal bearing to the plastic one in 4/89, in reality, for RHD cars this is not the case.
If you have the bolt on type lever arm that pushes a clutch rod, adjusted with 13mm nut, then regardless of the age of the car, then you have a metal release bearing = early clutch

I need to purchase a clutch kit for my BX TZi, RP5852 built late 92.
Does anyone know which clutch is the correct one, it's either N18918 or N18920. The GSF guy thinks it's N18920 as my BX is a very late model, but I don't know if it has a plastic release bearing which would be definitive.

The one you need is N12045, it fits all Xantias except the V6 and the HDi.

It is possible to put the belt back on one tooth out on the pump or cam or both if they were careless.
It is a ticklish job and I would suspect the problem lies there.
You can only talk to the garage and give them the chance to check it which can be done without removing the belt. If they use the correct pins to hold the pump and cam in the...

They do the timing belt, advise water pump is leaking and I say okay fit a new one. You have indeed got two items, both are RH issue. The reason I know is that in order to raise the ride height of my ZX I'm having to have two spacers made up to sit on top of those two. The chamfered corner, as seen best in the middle picture, actually is the forward end of the mounts and the chamfered bit faces towards the outside sill....

pressure accumulator sphere is flat, that's why with no pump feeding the pressure with engine off, the brakes are gone.

It'll probably be a round plug with a square in the centre. On all four of our cars I've replaced with a sump plug that will take a socket.

Im changing oil/filter etc this weekend, what am I to expect, is it going to be a standard sump plug that i can use my wrench on, or one of these ones with a square bit in the middle that ive heard about on here? if so were do I get the square bit? Its a 99 T Xsara Hdi.

I would go for a stuck HC rear control lever and assembly. The height control valve is working correctly but the link with the in car lever is either siezed or disconnected. Thats my guess anyway.
Remember not to try and free it off with you underneath and nothing to stop it giving you a sqeeze! R.

Due to a leaky pump (another thread) my LHM level has dropped below minimum and the STOP light stays on. That's not the problem.
Going through the procedure to depressurise the system prior to pump removal, I set the height adjuster lever to minimum after starting the engine at normal...

If you've run the CV joint dry (i.e. without any grease) for any distance at all, you will have ground all the moving parts with road dust (about as lubractive as valve grinding paste). I doubt very much that relubricating the joint will help - your juddering is the drivshaft trying not to rotate centrally - and it seems to be succeding!

They do not appear to be in all Xantia's full stop. My last one (L reg) had a blind and my current one does not (R reg), and as you say BX's always had them

Ray, the alarm control circuits are under the passenger seat under the carpet. Pulling the plugs on the control box may help. Not sure what this does to the immobiliser though. Disconnecting the sensors in the doors won't necessarily stop the alarm sounding. I suspect the failure of the key fob is related to the situation. The setting and...

Tell us a bit more - are they alloys or steel, what is the tyre size? As a matter of interest are they 14 inch black painted steel with holes round the disc? If so they are probably the same as ZX, some BX . . (most BX have solid centres - some GTi's may have holes which may be needed for brake ventilation)
