Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I had this on a nova. I found a big 3 legged puller got it off, but it broke all the springs & mounting clips that hold the shoes in place. Wasn't a huge problem as they are cheap from Motor Factors.
Its another reason I hate drum brakes.

I'm not sure about the aircon side of things, but I think the heater matrix and its position is the same as in any other BX, though the central heater/ventilation unit for an aircon-equipped BX differs from non-aircon models.

If it does'nt rain it pours, after just replacing the head and asscoited stuff and getting that going the bloody heater matrix has decided that life was getting boring so has is now livening things up by LEAKING. The carpets are a tad wet so the next weekend is going to be changing that sucker out.

Doesnt the 1.4 have a constant flatspot? :P but seriously no idea im afraid. My 16v used to Mayo up a shocking amount. I cleaned out what pipes I could a couple of times then did an oil change, cleaned out what I could then took it on the god almight thrash of its life and they were fine after that except a tiny amount in 1 of the small breather...

Never used Jamex stuff before myself but they have been around for a long time so should be ok.
Any good suspension kit will transfrom a already good handling but soft ZX into a great handling and firm ZX.
Well worth the upgrade, good for showing those bloody boy racers in their Corsa's, Saxo's and Fiesta's who's boss!!!

If the mileage is over 100k and whilst replacing cam belt.
Would recommend new water pump, radiator bottom hose and tensioner.
Most BX water pumps seals seem to fail at 100-140k.
Have a close inspection on heater flow and return hoses while your there.
If you renew bottom hose, ensure there's sufficient clearance on o/s drop link/anti...

I wouldn't have thought so. The heat from compression should allow it to start eventually.
Had the same symptons on a 406 one cold morning. Removed the fuel filter to find a big chunk of ice, it wouldn't start due to lack of fuel flow.

Sorry to answer with a question but are you using a citroen connection kit? It is very easy & obvious that way. Otherwise you are going to have to use joiners to splice into the existing cables which is not a good idea really. They are very thin and easily broken.
A multi meter will test out each cable and tell you which is for what lamp etc.

You should get your keys working first. I'm sure they're just mechanical, so have a look at the mechanism to make sure everything is still connected. Are all your locks rotating or just the drivers?
The early 2 button remotes were IR and the later ones (different style) were RF, so if they are compatible you'll need an early IR one.

I gave it a quick once over this weekend. And found the following.
1) exhasut rattles like mad but no loose shield, must be baffles
2) exhaust smoke from under bonnet on start up.
3) oil breather hose perished and clamped fix not perfect (but looks okay after a wipe)

I think the biggest wheel u can have with out making modifications to the wheel arches is 195/50/15. Plus u have to rember that depending on what wheel size u put on your car depends on what your speedo reads.

Can anyone tell me what the larget wheel size in terms of diameter and width it is possible to fit to a Citroen ZX? I have been offered some 17 205 (width) tsw alloy wheels, but I'm not sure if I can fit them to the ZX. I've currently got standard Aura TD wheels on which are 14 175 (width).

The two bolts that secure the caliper to the trailing arm will also split the caliper so you can get the piston back in evenly. I think the car it overheat. The red light of the dashboard it appears for too hot. Lift the throttle the engine it cool just some.

Generally speaking it's neither possible or practical to 'upgrade' injectors. If associated with other performance modifications it may be worthwhile changing opening settings or the injection pattern but this is highly specialised work.
Generally replacing them is all you can do and all that is required. Note that you may need a special tool for...

From previous experience I understand the magic bit may be the small electronic panel housed within the steering wheel. Early models were too advanced for many radio's and later ones were as you have found. The 98 I had could not be upgraded reliably either so I guess your information is correct.

Firstly, the 1.9 8v and 16v shafts are indeed the same, and the change was at RP 6870 (July 1995!when the LH shaft +ABS became 3273Q4. I then checked the shafts for Xantia Mk2 1998 1.8 16v and these are also Citroen 3273Q4 (exchange LH side).
What I need to confirm whether GSF N43858 is the shaft >RP6870 or after, I will do that tomorrow as I'm...

From what I've read (mainly here), a little petrol in your diesel won't hurt too much immediately, but may well knacker your injection pump due to lack of lubrication.
As for diesel in petrol, well I'd expect it just wouldn't go bang!

No, I haven't done it and don't intend to do it. Having just bought my first ever diesel I am a bit neurotic about absent-mindedly taking it to the wrong pump and have put little notices to myself all over the car!
But what exactly happens if you do put petrol in a diesel car? Are we talking about death by bang or by whimper? would love to...

To whom did they sell it? Panhard build some fine cars once upon a time - the apotheosis of the two-cylinder engine! Would love to own a Panhard 24..... one of the few cars ever to approach the Ami6 in beauty.

Hi guys, just a note to say that PSA Peugot Citroen have just sold their Panhard side of their company. This of course is a sad ending to Citroen-Panhard relationship. It also means that you will no longer be able to buy an armoured car from Citroen.

Hi, I am honestly confused about the prices mentioned here. Is it really possible to buy Xantia fot under 1k pounds in UK? They do not get below 2.5 - 3k EURO where I live. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news,but white smoke can mean only one thing - water getting into the cylinder(s). Something is either not lined - up properly (Water jacket passage from block to head) or maybe not tightened to correct torque?
Is this a new/reconditioned or used head ?Skimmed or not?

Hi there skypilot
The first area I would check is the security of the connectors that go onto the back of the fuseboard by the steering column. I was quite lucky when I did the heater matrix in my ZX as the only casultys were a few dash bulbs . Cant say much about the air-bag connectors as I dont have one

Not a nice job at this time of year when you don't have a garage.I now have two electrical gremlins: 1. the airbag warning light is flashing. 2. the central locking doesn't work - its the manual central locking, not remote . Well, the vapour light hadn't come on, and the mileage was relatively low for this tank ( about 530 compared to 600 ish ), so I wasn't even thinking about fuel.
However, it looks like the bulb has failed, and I was on a bad run, because the engine surged slightly on the way to the chippy, and then wouldn't start afterwards !

Check the fast idle waxtat unit in the thermostat housing, it has a cable going to a lever on the injection pump, it should pull the cable when the engine is cold and let it out when the engine is hot.

I have noticed that the idle speed has been increasing - the adjuster on the injection pump is now full back but it still seems a little fast - any ideas what might be causing this - the motor otherwise runs very well and there are no problems with the throttle cable.

My starter motor is dead again - has been rebuilt before. I have heard that there is a new Valeo motor that fits - does any one know the part number and details as this seems a better bet as the SM on a D is a real pain to remove and replace.

Personally I'd mark out where the old one is before removing it. Use one of those paint pens or a good marker. Then replace in the same place. When I did this mount on my ZX I did as suggested no problems. That was until I found I have the wrong size mount. DOH!!.

For those that are familiar with their engine mounts.....
If you replace the one under the battery (transmission mount), how can you be sure you have positioned it in the right place? There are two bolts/screws that hold it in place, but there is a lot of scope for for movement of the amount before tightening it.

I take it you are talking about a Xantia? If so there is no relay for the fan, it is fed directly from the ignition switch, which is well known to cause problems so start looking there (excess heat etc).
The cabin temperature sensor is behind the alarm LED and the aircon control box aka 'Bitron unit' is behind/below the nearside headlight, a...

If it's a Mk1 Xsara you'll be alright just unpluging the mirror with out battery disconnection. As for the trim panel over the screws, Be very gentle but firm in pulling / pring away from the door. They're only a push fit but the lower mounting lug has a habbit of breaking off. Don't worry about it though, new ones only cost about £5 from the main...

There is a fitting kit available from Cit - 1.50GBP for the kit which is a spring plus the relevant PUSH-FIT rivet.
and therein lies the secret- spread the old plipper each side of the key and the rivet will start to separate and can then be removed. Te key is then transferred over using the above kit. Really quite easy(for a Cit)!!

Managed to get a new plipper for my 94 Xantia and have re-programmed it successfully, following the advice given in another thread (except I had to turn the ignition ON, not just to the 'battery light on' position for the re-programming to 'take').
I now want to put the key from my old plipper into the new one. I'm guessing it'll involve drilling...

It's not the cable?
With the engine off the cluth isn't rotating, you're just releasing a stationary clutch. With the engine running the clutch is spinning, so if you're getting a different feeling clutch it's likely to be caused by one of the clutch components. I would imagine you're probably feeling some sort of vibration.

hi there... can't help on the step by step i'm afraid, although I can tell you that it is just air that goes through the intercooler: once the turbocharger has compressed the air, it then loses density through being heated, so to cool the compressed air and regain the density (and efficiency), the air passes through the intercooler on the way back...

Did you replace the clutch as a complete kit ?
- including friction plate, release plate (housing), release bearing and the oilseal on crank (behind flywheel).
Or did you only replace some of these parts ?
In DK we have LHD cars which do not suffer from insane routings on the cables, and hence cable stiffness or wear is not a problem in general.

OK, 20k on one clutch. Can't be right!?
While my engine is turned off, the clutch pedal is really stiff half way down, and then passes that half way point and goes all the way down.

Silly question - but have you checked if the brakes work actually ?
I cant think of other problems than something is screwed up with the spongy springy feeling spring added to Xantia brake pedals.

I would check a few other things before replacing the anti sink valve as I understand they are fairly reliable. You could have a flat anti sink sphere or a weak pump.
When I fill my car with fuel it jumps up about halfway through as the anti sink kicks in. This tells you the sphere is OK.

I think your jammed motor sound (sounds a bit like a cassette player does when it jams ?) is almost certainly the little fan at the back of the dash, near to the clock and behind the alarm warning light, that draws air over sensor to control the heating (climate control).
