Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the mounting points are the same for all the exhausts on zx's and 306's? I know the backboxes have different designs and that the front pipe might be at a different angle, but could you swap over the rest from model to model in theory?

stick something in the end of the pipe so it doesnt dribble out?!

I've got a fuel leak coming from the drain pipe on the fuel filter. Now there seems to be some sort of tap, but this is tight (cant undo or tighten it... Knowing me you probably pull it or something) but the damn thing still dribbles fuel from the flexible pipe that dangles from it. Has anybody got any ideas how to stop this? Its making marks on...

I dont know, but id be intreigued (is that how you spell it) to know if it is a PSA lump, did the new 2.0l HDI mondeos (51 plate ish) have a psa lump too?

Well, you won't lose anything by taking the head off, except maybe the skin on several knuckles.... though you may well find that you need go no further than the cam cover, as the cam itself may well be broken, never mind the valves or the head.....

Hi sorry to ask yet another lame question but I have the orange oil warning light flash at me when i first start the car after it has been sat for more than 30 mins I have checked the oil level and it is fine up to the max mark on the dipstick. This normally happens when you change spheres!!It sounds like air in the system- do the Citroabics ( up and down a few times ) and see if it makes any difference.

I replaced the rear spheres 2 weeks ago and checked the LHM level but since then the car doesn't sink everytime i switch off the engine even after leaving it till the next morning, and it doesn't raise after adjusting the ground clearance from the minimum to the normal position, any ideas?? thanks

At least for Croatia, It hasn't been sold any through dealership network, not even offered here. I've searched recently on some other countries' official cit. pages and haven't found any new model equipped with this engine. I quess Citroen doesn't sell it anymore in Europe or I'm wrong? No not the indicator relay.
It would be either the alarm or the indicator stalk switch at fault.
Can you cancel the O/s indicators by selecting the n/s indicators on the stalk ?

The height control valves do that for you. As they sense a drop or rise they try to compensate. Possibly not a full anti dive or squat system but certainly a very good mimic of one.
The hydractive system is more sophisticated I think and my XM is far less prone to dive or squat than the Xant is. Robin

The heater dial bulbs will probably need doing as well, so strip the front off the centre section first (ignore Haynes here you can't get the bulbs from behind). Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of Xantia'.
I wouldn't worry about the drop at the rear. It is highly likely to be related to you getting out of the car, it rises at that point, and then the system settling itself down at the right level on the various height and level control sensors, etc. It does take a second or several to adjust.

My car was recently in a rear end smash. It has a tow bar fitted, so that took the brunt of the force. Its rippled the boot floor (only slightly), buckled the two rear arces (can only tell if you are looking very closely under the right light), cracked bumper, cracked boot lid. Will also require a new light cluster.

Being plastic it might just float around in the oil, and could conceivably wash out of the drain hole when you next change the oil. I shouldn't think it can get anywhere nasty - like into the oil galleries - I don't think it would get past the strainer. If it was mine, I'd personally feel a lot happier though if it was on the outside of the engine.

Agreed, this clutch/cable design is shyte, if the cable was straight it wouldn't work (but then it wouldn't be a cable it would be a rod), its only able to work because of the bends in the routing of it.
You are stuck with it though unles you swap the entire clutch assembly for the n/a version, because their operating actions are totaly opposit,...

Count your blessings, it looks like somebody's disconnected the alarm to save you the trouble of doing the same thing yourself. There are probably more threads about troublesome alarms on this forum than almost anything else (except hydraulics, maybe).

I took my Xantia for its retest and it failed the MOT due to the Lambda reading being too high.
Since its first test I changed the spark plugs, oil, air and oil filter as advised.
The tester said that the Cat seems OK but that the car is due for a new back box as there is a rattle from it. He also said that it could be the Lambda sensor...

Rapid sinking of hydractive cars is due to failure of an internal O ring in the hydractive valve. I think the valves can be repaired - try giving Plaeides a ring - they're near Cambridge. There should be 4 spheres under the rear. The anti-sink sphere has only small pipe going into the back of it. The hydractive centre sphere is screwed directly...

The ignition switch is likely to be faulty - easy to relay to take this out the equation. Kowalski had problems with the board in his fan burning out, you might have this too - do a forum search. The lack of control is probably due to the internal temp sensor being full of rubbish / it's small fan failing. It's behind the alarm LED, so you need to...

Servicing is every 12500 miles. Personally, I think it´s too long. I do mine every 6000.

is there anywhere on-line that has the servicing schedule for the hdi engine ( 2.0L ), or could I just go and buy a Haynes book on say the Peoguet 406 which has the hdi engine in it? I've been not been able to find a Haynes book for a xantia with the hdi engine in it :(

our xantia hdi w reg takes an age to rise especially from low!! Watching other xantia's with the hdi it seems to be about right. The other xantia we have got p reg, is nearly instant to rise, and only takes slightly longer from it's lowest setting.

I find my recently acquired xantia wagon rise rather slowly from lowest setting to normal compared to my old BX. My old BX with its noisy and rattling pump can rise from bottom to normal height in 15 secs. The xantia need at least a minute or more to do the same. The xantia HP pump is quiet but in the morning it takes about 15secs for the STOP...

Second connector on the Injection pump is 'Over Boost' light, which tells you when the turbo is in action. Not Needed!
Second sensor on thermostat housing is possibly for the Air Con temp (Brown connector), Water temp runs off Blue connector, and behind the fuel filter will be a green connector for POST heat Relay (Which is important for this...

Ok, so this is a Mk1 Xsara HDi Estate with Girling Calipers at the front and 266mm discs.
So:
Front discs N60116 or N62316 (your choice of brand, the former Brembo the latter Bendix, same price)
Front pads N64031 (pads come with the 2 bolts)

I had this on a nova. I found a big 3 legged puller got it off, but it broke all the springs & mounting clips that hold the shoes in place. Wasn't a huge problem as they are cheap from Motor Factors.
Its another reason I hate drum brakes.

Can anyone help me out I have need to know how to remove seized drum brake. I have removed road wheel hub nut but the drum is fast. Have tried levering, hitting it, but nothing. I am total unable to rotate the drum / wheel in any direction.

I'm not sure about the aircon side of things, but I think the heater matrix and its position is the same as in any other BX, though the central heater/ventilation unit for an aircon-equipped BX differs from non-aircon models.

If it does'nt rain it pours, after just replacing the head and asscoited stuff and getting that going the bloody heater matrix has decided that life was getting boring so has is now livening things up by LEAKING. The carpets are a tad wet so the next weekend is going to be changing that sucker out.

Doesnt the 1.4 have a constant flatspot? :P but seriously no idea im afraid. My 16v used to Mayo up a shocking amount. I cleaned out what pipes I could a couple of times then did an oil change, cleaned out what I could then took it on the god almight thrash of its life and they were fine after that except a tiny amount in 1 of the small breather...

Never used Jamex stuff before myself but they have been around for a long time so should be ok.
Any good suspension kit will transfrom a already good handling but soft ZX into a great handling and firm ZX.
Well worth the upgrade, good for showing those bloody boy racers in their Corsa's, Saxo's and Fiesta's who's boss!!!

If the mileage is over 100k and whilst replacing cam belt.
Would recommend new water pump, radiator bottom hose and tensioner.
Most BX water pumps seals seem to fail at 100-140k.
Have a close inspection on heater flow and return hoses while your there.
If you renew bottom hose, ensure there's sufficient clearance on o/s drop link/anti...

I wouldn't have thought so. The heat from compression should allow it to start eventually.
Had the same symptons on a 406 one cold morning. Removed the fuel filter to find a big chunk of ice, it wouldn't start due to lack of fuel flow.

Sorry to answer with a question but are you using a citroen connection kit? It is very easy & obvious that way. Otherwise you are going to have to use joiners to splice into the existing cables which is not a good idea really. They are very thin and easily broken.
A multi meter will test out each cable and tell you which is for what lamp etc.

You should get your keys working first. I'm sure they're just mechanical, so have a look at the mechanism to make sure everything is still connected. Are all your locks rotating or just the drivers?
The early 2 button remotes were IR and the later ones (different style) were RF, so if they are compatible you'll need an early IR one.

I gave it a quick once over this weekend. And found the following.
1) exhasut rattles like mad but no loose shield, must be baffles
2) exhaust smoke from under bonnet on start up.
3) oil breather hose perished and clamped fix not perfect (but looks okay after a wipe)

I think the biggest wheel u can have with out making modifications to the wheel arches is 195/50/15. Plus u have to rember that depending on what wheel size u put on your car depends on what your speedo reads.

Can anyone tell me what the larget wheel size in terms of diameter and width it is possible to fit to a Citroen ZX? I have been offered some 17 205 (width) tsw alloy wheels, but I'm not sure if I can fit them to the ZX. I've currently got standard Aura TD wheels on which are 14 175 (width).

The two bolts that secure the caliper to the trailing arm will also split the caliper so you can get the piston back in evenly.
