Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Just try stripping back each cable and connecting in the usual way. Did this on my old zx and all was OK.

Just fitted a new anti-rollbar link and found that the cable for the brake pad warning light is broken. It's the thick rubber cable which has 3 or 4 wires embedded in it. Any way of joining it together? I'm not sure where the cable leads or if it can be easily replaced.

Hi to all. I noticed today when going around corners, I get a noise from the steering wheel area. I can only describe it as the noise you get when you wipe a wet window with your finger, like a dull vibration noise. It's not there all the time and is fairly quiet at the moment. I believe that an S reg Xsara XUD would be under 6,000 mile oil changes. Besides, it is good pratise to change the oil that often. I do in my 2 year old C5 HDI.
It is a piece of cake to do, filters and oil are cheap from GSF, should take you less than an hour once you have done it before.
Try it!

Hi, my alarm is not working, never has, now the plip works (well it lights up when pressed), the receiver seems to be the problem. I was checking out the wiring today.
Five wires going in.
wire one ; earth
wire two ; ignition live
wire three, four and five not got a scooby.
I take it that one of they wires should be live all the time to give it...

Sounds as though the height corrector linkage is sticking. jack car up securely and examine the linkage and lubricate it thoroughly, especially the rod going into the height corrector itself. I use spray grease which doesn't last for ever and next time I will use a brush to get grease onto this shaft. rest should be oiled for now to get free and...

Ok the car drives perfectly normal the ride height is normal, but while checking the LHM level today i noticed that the rear of the car seemed lower than the front on max setting. LHM level is fine according to the float.
So i then dropped the car to it lowest setting and it did as normal the whole car...

When I did the cambelt on my 2.01 8 valve, I found that there was a rim inside the actual tensioner that it was possible for the internal sleeve to ride up on. There was also a burr in the moulding that allowed it to sit on a very slight angle. The result was the tensioner sat slightly cockeyed which tended to send the belt towards the...

I remember seeing this on BBC`s Watchdog a couple of years ago.A particular town was badly affected.I think L/Rover Freelanders were worse affected,& the ecu was blamed at the time,untill w/dog got on the case.

I think that each time you try an incorrect code, the radio locks for a longer period of time, eventually totally locking. I think that you could be waiting for hours !

You need to get the lower half out away from the dash abit. The control cables will hinder you a bit. Then you need to remove the black plastic cover from the top of it. You will see the unit that holds the two bulbs. As far as I remember twist it a bit and it will pull up.

Check your earth points, its most probably that one of these is slightly dodgy, either that or your alternator / battery are putting strange voltages into your wiring.
My Xantitia Speedo sometimes dips a bit when the wipers are on intermittent, each time the wipers start, its probably the same sort of thing.

MK2 Xantias are listed in higher insurance groups across the board, possibly due to painted bumpers and the greater number of airbags etc.

The only reason I can see would be the large black pipes coming over the top of the engine toward the bottom of the radiator are not connected up. ( trying not to be technical). When these come apart or are left off you'll be lucky to be able to do 50mph with the pedal to the floor. Car will start ok but there will be little power. I think by the...

I have had the same problem, most replacement boots come with cable ties to attach them, these can work well but on my ZX they have a habit of slipping off, boots are really supposed to be attached using stuff called ligarex strapping, thin metal stuff, but the tool to apply this is not commonly available to DIY folks, keep trying with the ties,...

My Sister's got a ZX D that keeps throwing the drive shaft boot off the CV joint (N/S I think). The boot was replaced a couple of times, then the driveshaft, but just heard that it's just had an MOT, and the boot was off again. Can't comment on the quality or otherwise of the replacement shafts fitted, but anybody got any ideas why it should do...

Assuming you are talking about the XUD9TE in a Xantia and I have the right manifold in mind then this page:

suggests that the answer depends on the vintage. Early ones had no gasket. Later ones, with a bracket, had a seal. That's actually the page for an 806, but so far as I can tell the inlet manifolds are the same.
Has anyone found a parts...

I noticed yesterday that the metal part that bolts onto the inlet manifold and has the pipe from the intercooler connected to it was loose. I dismantaled and refitted it tight but should it have a gasket? has it got a name?

Yes, a 2002 Xsara will have mutliplex wiring. No, you can't just splice into the wiring as it's simply not there! The multiplex bit means essentially that electrical functions are operated by a computer network switching a common feed. You will need to go and talk to Citroen probably to get a wiring kit, although one of major bar makers...

On my BX I have an old set of Halfords bars, and for the wifes Kia we have the PreAlpina's-they were the only firm at the time who could supply the relevant fittings, and they came from a local spares shop who had the catalogue and they were in pretty quickly.

I recognise these bits from my BX19 diesel.
This EGR system (cant remember what the abbrev is for) was a legal demand on Swiss & Swedish BX diesels in the late '80's, and some of these BX diesels ended on the DK export market.
Basically the EGR system takes some of the exhaust and recirculate it into the inlet - to bring down the pollution.

OK - I've found a likely donor vehicle for turbo-connecting parts but it's an 806/synergie/ulysse, rather than the expert/dispatch/scudo I actually have. THings are nearly the same, but:

My 95 Synergie alarm leaves the o/s indicator lights on after the alarm is activated. Deactivating doesn't cancel the lights. Does anyone know if there is a relay that needs changing or if there are any relays relating to the alarm system. I read that Citroens have a common problem with electrics. Where should I be looking for the cause of this...

It might be time for a new clutch cable, they can become dry and stiff with age and become prone to jamming.
If you don't do something about making the clutch lighter, you'll almost certainly be replacing another clutch cable clip in the near future.

You've checked the battery voltage when turned off, and the voltage when turned on ?
I haven't had a look at mine yet, but you'll probably need an allen key to slacken off the aux belt tensioner, and another to loosen the bolts on the alternator, disconnect the cable from the alternator, and remove.

Follow top hose - the thermostat housing is at the other end from the radiator.
Drain system, take off top hose, then undo the thermostat housing.
You could test the thermostat, but since you've gone to the trouble of dropping the coolant, I'd just replace it. Make sure you replace the o-ring so you get a water-tight seal when putting the housing...

Usually it takes only around 4-5 miles for the temp gauge to get up to 85-ish degC but this morning I was driving around for about 35mins & it was still only just showing 70.
I checked the radiator & it's absolutely stone cold all over. The top hose going into it is pretty warm but the hose coming from the bottom is pretty much stone cold, there...

Used one on the front spheres, no go on the back. Never tried it on the accumulator. With apologies to those who do things properly I tend to go for the hammer and chisel when the sphere isn't going back on.

I've had a look at the Peugeot version of how to change a V6 cam belt . Looks like it might take a week or two to do! I've also been quoted £400 by a Cit dealer. I'd like to have a go myself, but at present it's my only car so I wouldn't want to risk it being off the road for any length of time when I cock it up.

In a few weeks my Xantia V6 will reach 80,000 miles and that seems to be the time to do the cam belt. A Citroen dealer service department, when asked the recommended mileage for this operation, replied We don't know, are you sure it has a belt?

You have to press the piston(s? not sure if its a fixed or floating caliper - usually fixed, i.e. two pistons on the rear) into the caliper so that there's enough space to get the pads in. If both pads were equally worn that should do, but if not, then the least worn side needs exercising - press it in with a heavy duty screwdriver or small jemmy,...

Ok fellas, I established that it was my rear pads that were almost down to the metal, got the new pads from gsf, and set to work- little retaining clip was rustier than a rusty thing but the dremel on the edges of the retaining sections on the old pads sorted that. Never done pads myself and so am following Haynes. The thing is it says to retract...

Yet again fate has intervened - just as I was thinking must get a look at the ZX's brakes we have a sinking pedal and fluid all over the back of a rear wheel So, drums off time (god knows when though!) - anybody know what size the hub nut is off hand in case I need to extend my tool kit

60 quid to have you cambelt covers fitted? I only know about the XUD engine, and maybe yours is something else, but the old style ones clip on, the new ones have 3 bolts. They can be pretty awkward to get to as there is usually bugger-all space but it's no more than a 20-minute job, and about a 3-minutes job if you have the clip-on sort and...

The knock sensor does not work that way. You may remove the knock sensor and never feel anything on the engine performance.
The knock sensor is fitted to lag the ignition somewhat under certain engine conditions, and this is decided by the ECU.
In fact you may never feel anything if the sensor contact or cable has failed.

Some time ago, someone mentioned a performance increase just by cleaning the contacts in knock sensor. I suspect mine has a faulty line, sometimes it feels very responsive and sometimes it has some lag before responding. My ZX is a '94 2.0 8 valve petrol.

I think that ZX seats will fit. Replaced the drivers on my old ZX TD and it was fairley easy to remove and replace. Paid £15 for two newer ones from a lad on this site.

the seats in my Citroen C15 van are wornout.
Has anyone got any experience of fitting seats from cars into these things. Are most Citroen and Peugeot front seat fittings the same or is it a case of trawling scrapyards for a decent pair of C15 seats? There is no shortage of 205, 309, 405 , AX, etc but most scrapped C15's are as worn out as mine.

Hi, when i move the suspension lever between different positions the car doesn't move smoothly between heights, for example it won't move when switching from the lowest level to the normal, i replaced the rear suspensions 3 weeks ago and it does it since then, i tried to move it between different levels few times but no difference, any ideas??...

Checked the plugs for oil fouling? Check all air ways/ breather pipes and clean. This time of year some short journeys can lead to salad cream like stuff bunging them up.

My 2002 (30k mile) C5 HDI 110 has a funny habit with the clutch. When the engine etc is cold, the clutch feels great. Nice smooth pedal travel and consistent biting point.
