Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Are your fans running when this light comes on? If they are have a play about with the connector on the brown sensor on the thermostat housing if you have one. One mine the connector was a bit corroded so I'd get the stop light and coolant temp light even though the temperature gauge was reading the correct temperature. The blue sensor operates...

Is there room for a 3 legged 'spider' remover? Possibly the best £10 i've ever spent on a tool. It looks like a claw which fits a 3/8 driver and tightens round the filter, grips it and un-does it at the same time.

early xantias suffered from ecu faults(eeprom faults).at my last count a few years ago citroen had updated its ecu eight times.
normally when a cylinder shuts down, ie:no feed to coil,norally it points to a component fault rather than a wiring fault.

I have a misfire on a 93 Xantia 16V (the early 155bhp engine with separate coils).
There is no spark at no 3 cylinder. The engine management auto diagnosis lamp is not lit.
I have changed the plugs - no spark
I have moved the coils around - still no spark.
So I'm presuming a wiring fault somewhere...(?)
Does anyone have any ideas or experience...

Don't know about a 95 bog standard version, but my 97 LX which is just up from bog standard had the wiring there for electric rear windows, so I bunged'em in.
Whip a door card off and have a gander, or look at the cable grommit going from body to door, if you can feel a bunch of cables going through it then its likely that its pre-wired for the...

Glenn, I had just these problems a few weeks ago. It transpired that the earth strap from battery to gearbox was crimped at the engine end and this had broken down. Through repeated and long overdue use of trying to get by without curing the problem the starter motor suffered and finally died with all the symptoms of a dying battery.

Remove thorx screws from underneath inside handle, remove cover plate for wing mirror. Using small flat ended screwdriver, remove lock button (its fiddly, push small clip in and it should come off the end of the rod its attached to). Prise electric window switches out and remove connector. Pull speaker grill off and remove and disconnect speaker....

I'm led to believe that Hydraflush doesn't damage the system, so much as if you were to leave engine oil flush in the oil you use, that it would eventually eat its way through the seals etc.

Are there risks in the hydraflush operation?
For instance, if after hydracleaning the Total Hydraurincage is not entirely removed from the system, how dangerous could this be?
If it there's no risk, how about using a permanent a mix of LHM and Hydraurincage (let's say 90/10)?
Doesn't LHM+ have a cleaning power already?

The starter motor on my XM 2.5 TD has started to get a bit sluggish and after checking the battery, which is less than two years old it seems the answer may lie in either the connections or the starter motor itself.
Has anyone any experience of this with a 2.5 before I get my overalls on and get under it?

Happened to me once when I had a front tyre carcass start to disintegrate internally. Isolated it with a front-to-back tyre swap. However, I guess that there could be other reasons for the shake.

Ah - the faded red BX look.
How about some of that coloured polish? Most of the faded red cits/pugs do have a tendency to stay pink once left neglected - but will stay red if properly looked after with regular elbow grease. The BX plastic bonnets and spoilers seem more prone to lose colour than other parts, for some reason.

What mileage has the car done?
£250 seems cheap for a HG. Whenever I've done HG jobs (although I've never done a diesel) I've always reground the valves and replaced the oil seals and usualy done a (at least top end) de-coke. I doubt they're going to do all this for £250, it's just up to you how far you want them to go.

Its official, went to get the car chemical tested at independant pug/cit trained mechanics on saturday to see if head gasket is failing but didn't need to, as there are now so many bubbles coming up, it looked like a a bottle of fizzy drink.
To fix will be around £250, that incl replacing cam timing belt and getting head checked/skimmed. Take upto...

I had a call from an owner of a Xantia 2.0 CT from a cooler state than the one I live in who has a problem.
It seems that first thing in the morning, the car will wind over but not start for 4 or 5 times. However, once the car has started, it will start normally for the rest of the day.
It's done around 130K klms and hasn't had the injectors...

You would still need batteries to power your walkman/cd player, and it should be as simple as plugging a line in/out cable into the walkman and your head unit. I had a kit from Argos when I first passed my text which a stand that holds my cd player and then just the one cable going into the headunit...as far as I can remember.

Same happened with mine last year, it just kinda died. So went to the scrappers and picked one up for about 50p, replaced it under the drivers wheel arch and no problem...I would do that first before you make more work for yourself.

My Zx TD windscreen washer has stoped pushing water. The rear Jet works fine but nothing comes out of the front jets I can see the water going though the pipe at a really slow rate. I can hear the pump going.
I have disconected the non return valve and still nothing, also removed the jets them selfs and no change.

I don't fancy it much, but I'm very impressed that somebody went ahead and did it!! I wonder if that roll bar retains all the body strength though -as my BX saloon bodyshell didn't seem that rigid. These boxes have an oil wear meter which works by counting heat cycles. When it decides it has done enough counting it will enter a fault code and the sport/snow lights will flash. If you change the oil the ecu won't know and will keep counting. The counter can only be reset with the analyser wotsit at the dealer. This doesn't really matter if you...

Can't offer much advice but the heater lights (and dash) will come on with the ignition. My girlfriend wondered why her heater lights didn't work but the passenger footwell was illuminated. She hadn't put the two together...

Its probably got a vent system that works. may even be in the cap - some used to have vents in them - probably illegal now!

Interesting - it must be hidden elsewhere as the things cant function without one. Of course no FDV if no power steering.

How can that be;
i have searched in 3 BXs for a PR and there was no PR in any of them!!!
They were all 88' TRS automatic, is that possible?
At the first one i thought maybe someone took it out but in all 3 of them i didn't see loose hoses...

sounds like the heater resistor is faulty inside the heater assembly.
the dash bulbs have gone by the sound of it in the heater control and instrument cluster.a bit tricky to do if you havent done any before.

Okay, I have just today got my first ZX Aura 1.9D and OMG it was such a nice drive home. Covered 315 miles today and loved every second of it. It sticks to the road like glue and does not do what my Mondeo done! (tiped up leaving 3 wheels on the road) when taking a roundabout at 50MPH at night.

the starter motor is directly under the air filter assembly.
the first thing is to make sure the battery is 100%.
make sure there is a 12v feed at the starter solenoid when the ignition key is turned to the starting position.

Hello, need some more help on my girl friends 1993 AX, 1.0.
It has a real funny intermittent starting problem. You will drive it and then park up. Go back to start the car and nothing. The starter doesn't spin, no click, but the battery light on the dash dims when turning the key. I tested the battery and it had a full 12V. Then waited an hour...

depending on the age of the vehicle,there will be a dowel locatedin the head/mounting,should come out quite easy.

My son is renewing his cylinder head gasket on his 306td. He has removed all the cyl. head bolts etc, also the top bolt on the tensioner, the three bolts holding the engine mount plate. But something is still holding it that end, the vacuum pump end of the head moves and you can see the front engine plate flexing.

there is obviously a probiem with the brakes!
first check that the front brakes are nice and free,check that the rear brakes arent seized and that they are adjusted ok.
try bleeding the brakes again.
if you think that the linkeage assembly needs adjusting it looks like something is wrong!,the most common fault on the AX brake assembly is that the...

Hi,
I have just bled my girlfriends AX due to the brakes being a little crap! They work fine now but there is a lot of free play in the pedal. You can press it a good 1 to 2 inches or so before the brakes come on.
I had a look in haynes and it is as helpful as usual, just tells me how to take the pedal assemble out and refit in reverse of...

I think Citroen use either green or blue for water temp guages on the connectors. I know it's not the same, but on my Xsara I had a simalar problem. Temp plugs both with green connectors but with brown wiring plugs. Did the easiest thing and stared the car and took each one off in turn. I am having a break half way through changing the spark plugs on my Xantia.
The plug change is a bit easier than I anticipated, I could do it in an hour next time.
The plugs that came out of the fron 3 cylinders look almost new and had clean threads. The plugs that came out of the rear 3 cylinders are badly worn and were all tight in the threads....

This helps explain the posting re. Shavings in the reservoir... That pump sounds pricey by the way, Ouch !!

Is there anything special about the HP pump on the V6 Xantia? Only I just had to pay £720 to have one fitted. Pump itself is priced at just under £500, the rest was for labour, a new aux belt and LHM.
This is following the recent loss of hydraulic pressure that kept occurring. Apparently the pump was full of swarf and had been slowly eating itself.

hi all
central locking has stopped working when you operate the remote or turn the key the alarm sets but it will not lock the doors i was checking the solaniode that locks the fuel cap and i undid the nut inside the fuel lid and the soliniod fell down. do you have to remove the plastic wheel arch to get to it?
any ideas?

The rear seat belts are part of the Test, I guess strictly speaking the tester could fail the car if he was unable to test their retraction, and look at the fabric for cuts. However, this is one where the tester can use his discretion, its obvious that the belts are fitted, and that they latch correctly or they would not have been used to secure...

My xsara passed MOT yesterday, all ok , got 2 advisory notes , 1st one, rear seat belts not tested , due to child seats fitted . (DOes this mean rears are not part of the mot) + secondly Front shocks are leaking , on last years mot the shocks where leaking as well . How bad do the shocks have to be too fail.

As its the correct carb for the engine the only bit to be set is the idling isn't it?
ideally done with a CO2 meter but you'll get somewhere very near getting the thing to sound right and a sniff and listen at the exhaust.
Usual default settings for needles are to screw in (not tight) and unscrew by 1 1/2 turns.

It sounds like you have a duff connection somewhere. Remove and clean up the battery leads/terminals and check the earthing leads between the body and gearbox.

The TD12 head gasket was modified by Citroën in about 1992 due to a number of intial failures, the gaskets sold by Citroën after that date are metal-reinforced and are quite adequate for the job.

Just bought 405 diesel. It's done 200k
Has been losing oil, about 1 litre every 500 miles. Definately not burning it - you can see it dripping off the block at idle. On further examination I can see bubbles of oil blowing from the head/block face at idle, obviously from oilways.
Oil not mixing with water, and vice versa - yet! Don't no much about...

Just put my Xantia in for its retest.....
It failed on a cracked windscreen, worn track-rod end, and lack of damping in the front suspension.
So, the new track-rod end took 6 hours (seized beyond belief - needed a lot of heat to get that b*****d off), got the windscreen done through my insurance, and I citaerobic-ed the pants off the car. Really...

The suspension was checked on the MOT - if not its probably a bad liar and will start rattling if there is anything wrong. LHM is realy cleanig out the reservoir (drop the car first to clear the suspension) and refilling. If you are conscientious you will bleed the old out through the brakes. You can flush it if you like - just means doing the job...

What exactly is involved in a 48,000 mile service? Filters i can do my self. The handbooks suggets checking play in suspension,hubs,ball joints,etc - this bit i'm unsure of how to do. The brakes have just been done as i had to replace the front ones 500 mile ago. It also suggests new lhm (the car is four and half years old). Don't now how to do...

So I had to go from Boston > South Oxford to get it but my latest bargin its a 1.4 Multipoint 32K clean as a whisle all by the rocker cover paint is flakey if we're being fussy. £55, with the loom & ECU the only thing its missing is the gearbox, which I can use my original.
Now my question, with my Mr2 I can look up the engine number & find...
