Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

James, check two things first - the heater control is actually moving the fresh air from recirc to fresh air. The cable is dreadful for bending behind the control panel. The one below the radio. Hence the misting up. Search the forum fro detailed instructions on this one.
Ensure the pollen filter is clean, in the passenger footwell below glove...

I have just bought a Citroen Xantia 1.9 TD and the air con doen't work leaving me with huge misting up problems!
I have checked fuses under the steering wheel and next to the battery and all is O.K. there

hi ian yes if the clutch is not at end of its life you can , if you look under bonnet on top of gear box find the clutch cable follow if forward to the end you will find the adjuster i cant remeber exact adjustment long time since i have done one im suse some one on here will know regards malcolm

Have just bought an absolutely gorgeous AX 1.1i Echo. The car is absolutely mint and the only issue is the clutch. The bite is good and reversing off a very steep driveway today its didnt slip.
The only problem is that the bite is right at the top of the pedal travel, is there anyway to adjust this down????

Does a knackered Doseur valve have ANY other effects on the system other than rapid sinking of the back end?
My back end drops to the floor within 30mins-1 hour whilst the front sticks right up in the air for at least a day. The front end of mine sticks and jumps like mad despite new struts.

The true fix for this prob is to replace brake doseur valve with new or factory re/con because rear susp returns through dozer valve, when the seals get worn they cant hold rear susp presure, so it seeps back up through system it dose not appear to make any...

The rubber seal is on the filter itself.
If you have checked that the screws holding the filter body lid are tight I would suggest checking the filter: a) Could be in upside down (rubber seal end should be at top under lid); b) Rubber seal may be damaged or missing - or even no filter in there.

Should it have a rubber seal or not? also the oil pressure warning light, the stop light and the suspension pressure light have come on all at once! i posted about this a short while ago, its the top engine mount and assosiated links you need to replaced, the link mounts first and then the main mount (if its a 90bhp then its just got the main mount any way)

My Xantia has slowly developed a drumming noise from the engine bay when driving with a low RPM. I've taken off all the engine covers and it is still there. My question is has anyone else experienced this and if so what was the cause?
I'm suspecting an engine mount although there is no clonking ie large engine movement.

I have just bled the brakes right through flushing about two litres of LHM and getting rid of a lot of dirty LHM and a surprising amount of air/gas.
Having now road checked the car, the Series 2 XM Estate, I am really quite surprised at the overall difference to both ride and the improved responsiveness and sensitivity of the braking system.

I put oil on the threads each time I take them out if they're dry. If you don't oil them you could find yourself stranded with a flat tyre, unable to change it.

Is the pollen filter newish? If not change it. Also run the aircon for a while with the heat turned full up. Usually the smell comes from bacteria in the pipework. The heat kills it off.
It has been known for a slight leak from the heater matrix to cause a smell.

Hi People
When I put the aircon on it don't half smell funny for the first few minutes (weird chemical smell, my Lass describes it as cocainey type smell but guess this doesn't help most people). Only does this on the air con cycle no smell from heater or when blowing (unchilled)cold air. BTW Aircon works absolutely fine.
Any ideas as I could live...

Have found the answer 1 more bolt right in the middle

No. The height can be adjusted but can be a dangerous operation if all safety precautions are not observed. Check the posts on the extensive informatiom on height correctors this past week or so. Hope this helps, but take care.

hi sam i would check all pipes aroud that area and header tank sometimes pipes rub or get soacked in oil at end of engine if you do drain water system make sure you bleed properlywhen reinstalling coolant if you want run down send me a reply regards malcolm

These days there is very little difference in price between regassing and replacing spheres so I always replace.

Bosch fuel filters on HDi engines have a plastic top with a hexagon suitable for using a socket to remove top of housing.
If I remeber rightly its only a quarter turn anti-clockwise to remove.

Ok, having fixed my rumbly rear beam thanks to my last post, I took my car for a long run to Scotland (about 400 miles) and lost about 2.5 litres of oil . It had never lost oil until this point. We were doing about 90 all the way there, so about 4000 revs. On the way back I stuck to 65-70, and it didn't lose a drop. There is oil all down the back...

You'd need to transfer... wiring, wheel sensors, driveshafts, hubs, heatshields, the rear brakes, ABS ECU, ABS relay, ABS valve block etc.
This is probably the scale of conversion that ActivaV6 would love to tackle, but it would be a 8, 9 or 10 on my scale.

Your new pipes are delivered with plastic (or rubber) end caps ?
If not - take a smoker's pipe cleaner - cut in 4 pieces - then insert each piece half way into pipe and bend. That way you do not get dirt/grit into the pipes.
Dont mind the exact bends and shape at first. Start feeding the pipe from wheelarch inwards. Then connect at the 3way union....

The front brake pipes on the BX are now quite rusty and it's time they were replaced. I've got new ones (from Citroën) and the flexis, too.
I've managed to get one of the bleed nipples undone (it's years since they last turned) and I reckon the other will be alright, too.
But it looks like the rigid pipes will be real swines to fit - especially...

There are two types of pump - before anyone can help you'll need to see which you have. One is Bosch, the other is Lucas (sometimes marked Roto-Diesel). I have the feeling that Bosch is more common.

Have a grope around in the drivers footwell, left side alongside the pedals there you will eventually encounter the other end of the cable, and a lever, this operates the water valve,try moving it from this end these get sticky and are best operated regularly and always with the system warm if possible, I live in fear of problems in this area and...

Can not advise you on this model but ensure when re filling you have the heater in the hot position and ensure the rad is vented, and look out for the small screw top vents in the highest hoses normally going to the heater matrix.

I have encountered Hitachi starters on the diesels, as you describe the body of the motor is smaller and there appear to be some reduction gears in there, works fine though in my experience.

Old trick that worked for me was to hacksaw a diagonal line down the threaded part of the plug in about 3 places and very very carefully screw in plug a quarter of a turn and back, then in etc keep a vac handy to keep the swarf out the way.

Brat and blast. I was just checking the condition of the spark plugs on my Xantia Activa and number 3 got it's threads crossed. It goes in about 2 coils and no more.
Does anyone have any tips to sort this out or is it head off time?

The genuine Citroen reconditioned spheres I've had in the past had a plug with a couple of flats and a screw thread cut into the top of it, under a yellow plastic cap but there was no valve in them.
You can get valves (Technosir do them I believe) that allow you to regass your spheres in situ, assuming you have access to a bottle of compressed gas...

Sounds very much like the ignition switch is failing. A new one will probably cost less than an ECU investigation anyway.
its worth having a look at the connections etc just to make sure there isn't a plug coming undone but it sounds like a switch fault to me - ie isn't moving properly.
Beware of lubricating it with WD 40 or similar - from what...

Not likely to much on here about the C4 - we're more interested in buying BXs and ZXs it seems! I have not heard anything bad about the C4 on other more general forums I frequent (contrast to the C5!). I expect there is a C4 group on Yahoo lists.

Nisk,
The idle adjustment is made in the programming of the ecu. You can change it if you have access to an Elit or Lexia programming tool.
However, I suspect that the setpoint stored in the ecu has not changed. Therefore the ecu thinks
either
1. the engine is turning slower than it is
or
2. the setpoint is artificially raised for some reason...

I have found that the idle on my 2.5TD (which was already rather high at 1000 rpm) has increased even further when I run it on veggie oil (to 1200 rpm) now that represents a fair speed at the low gear ratios this car has.

Hi,
Have any other C4 owners having problems with a rattle from the rear shelf on a 5 door model ?
It appears that the shelp is not held in place by the rubber mounts on the rear hatch and so enable it to bounch up and down on rough roads. It not helped by the fact that the shelf is of hard material againts the plastic trim.

Lots of sticky pads.
Use some fishing twine or nylon line to slip behind the plate and slice through the sticky fixers. Gentle warming with a hairdryer first works wonders too.
Then clean off the excess black sticky bits before putting a new plate on - and warm the fixers on your new plate before sticking to the car - they will adhere better.

My son who has a Pug 306 with 1.9td and has a Bosch fuel system. He Recently renewed the head gasket and the head reskimmed.
The pug is a pig to start, all the usual things have been checked unless I've missed something?? The problem is that he brought this cheap with the gasket gone, so has no idea of if this was a problem before.

When you test the air horns, Use a multimeter on amps (big amps that is, at least 10) and see what it draws. Check your handbook, and see what the fuse that covers the horn circuit is, and what else it protects. As a very rough rule of thumb if the current drawn is less than half of the rating of the fuse, you should be fine.
