Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Thats something you virtually never see in fact. As adverts rightly states 400 odd only made. Only citroen ever concieved/built entirely outside of france.
Most of them have now been updated to 602cc motor though :-)
Rare, but not overly sought after or expensive IMHO.

Makes you wonder how good Michelin tyres are for us every day motorists? Mind saying that didn't Fire stone have a problem a couple of years ago with tyres supplied to Ford?

Going by the utter letter of the law, as the vehicle is registered, then it must either have Tax, MOT and valid insurance, or not be on the road. The ONLY way you can legally move this car is to put it on a trailer with all 4 wheels OFF the road.

Value to me, Nil. Value to someone with the initials RRG, possibly a fair bit. There are companies about who will give you a rough idea as to the value of a registration plate. Look in auto-trader as a starting point.
I once had NBK 30Y valued at about £150, so a single-numeral plate must be worth a bit more than that, probably.

The C5 has ABS as well as EBD and emergency brake assist these are complex systems that cost a lot to develop and test. PSA could develop one set of systems for the C5 and another for the 407 but with economies of scale it makes more sense to engineer one car (as much as possible) and sell it as two cars.

It doesn't really have a positive and a negative. What it really has is neutral (called negative) and Sine wave (called positive). Neutral is tied to earth, and so doesn't have a sine wave on it. Positive actually swings between +340V and -340V 50 times a second, where the RMS (root-mean-square) of this waveform is 240v, hence 240VAC quoted for UK...

As I now have 9 vehicles, most of which have one problem or another, I must rationalise. Since I am now the rather proud owner of a CX TD, I fear the BX may have to move on to pastures new. Shame really, as I love it, but I can't have this many cars!

Trying to change the brakepads on my mate's 92 VW polo yesterday. Seems the whole caliper has to come off, and then the two parts taken apart in order to fit new pads. We get the calipers off and the remnants of the old pads out, before discovering that he had the wrong pads anyway so we called a halt.

Personally, I cannot stand slug-o-matic boxes. I don't care if they're dual-mode, tri-mode, adaptive, learning, tiptronic, over-rideabe, ANYTHING. If it's got a slush-box torque converter, and a lever that has D for DULL then I'm not interested. Give me a friction clutch and a manual 'box any...

Put new tyres on the rear.

IMHO the Vredestein Sportrac2 tyres are brilliant, I have always felt like they have bags of grip in any weather and the handling is smooth and predictable.

A colleague and myself were just discussing where should new tyres be put on a car. He maintains that for any car, 2 new tyres should always be put on the rear, regardless of the driven wheels.
The michelin website bears this out, but in 20 years of driving I have never heard this and always though the best tyres should be on the drivin wheels....

I too have heard about slightly better economy etc but then I dont bother using it these days as the Supra does so little to the gallon its beyond help heh. As for performance, it may help a bit although modern engines are typically programmed for 95 octane so I dont know how much they will adjust themselves for 98. My Visa however prefers it as...

After accidentily filling my car with shell optimax i'm actually quite impressed, acceleration seems a lot better and smoother and it only costs another couple of quid a tank so i'm thinking why not.

Cant really say other than dont old engines need different valve seals or something to run on unleaded if they were designed for 4 star?

Is it OK to just use Super Unleaded with a 1973 Simca 1100 as this has the same 97 octane level as original leaded fuel or is it advisable to use an additive?

I think all the alterations will spoil its appeal for a lot of people.. Two colour changes.. engine changed, different gearbox fitted, headlight mods.. People like Classic's be as original as possible..

Looks like an interesting conversion, I would not like to guarantee how long the thing will run before the torque of the TD lump destroys the transmission though.

It always used to be reconed that the legal limit equated to about 5 standard drinks - ie single spirits, ordinary glasses of wine or about 2.5 pints of ordinary beer, not the superstrong stuff that I prefer.

Not going this Time Im afraid, bit of a long round trip from here, also trying to get at least one 2CV/Dyane shaped car properly sorted for the long haul up to scotland in july for the world meeting.

Yep, something I do quite often to see if I can get 20 or more mpg :) This however is something my friend cannot accept. He says how can it be accurate when you may use different pumps that cut at different amounts etc. This may be true but will only change the amount by a few ml. Instead he goes on about the accurary of his petrol gauge etc sigh....

MPG is not too hard to measure accurately - fill the fuel tank to brim full - CAREFULLY - reset the odometer to zero - pay for the fuel - drive away!
At ANY time thereafter you can do an mpg check - go to a fuel station, fill the fuel tank to brim full - CAREFULLY AGAIN - and this time Note the amount of fuel in litres or gallons to brim the tank...

Master cylinder rusted solid is fairly likely if there is no movement at all. If the calipers are seized, I'd expect the pedal to move a bit, even if only to allow for the expansion of the flexible hoses.

Just bought a 1973 Simca 1100 and the brake pedal is solid, any ideas? First thought was seized front brake cylinders but im new to this so wandered if there are any other checks i could do before dismantling the calipers?

My Xantia's HDi 110 had no life and energy and felt like a 2.0 petrol engine, not liking low revs.
After tuning it feels like a V8 petrol. Can start moving in third. Usually drive at 1100-1200RPM with great response.
It's a day-night difference over original 110hp.
If you're not going to tune it I wouldn't recommend you a 2.0HDi, except if it's...

I had cruise put on my HDI which was as you say just a case of fitting the switch then getting the ECU reprogrammed.
As far as comparison betwen the Kangoo and Berlingo is concerned I found the Kangoo to be rather expensive, basic trim inside and the exposed runners for the sliding door looking very 'van like' so I bought a Berlingo.
