Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Just had the 93 Xant tdsx mot'd.. It failed the test on the rear suspension gaiters, which were straightforward to replace. My recent exploits with CV boots led me to wonder what recourse there is if your car fails an MOT but you disagree with the result. In my case it failed on split boots, which I later checked and couldn't find splits in.

If I'd have taken the car back to the garage and asked them to show me the splits would they be required to by law? Could I then...

turbo sound is the idiot noise that some turbocharged petrol engines make when their pressure dump valve opens. There seems to be competition between these fools as to how loud they can make the whoosh noise.

I see. IMHO, revving up the engine on a 2CV with a trafficlutch and switching the ignition makes a much better noise, as does the banshee...

What boxxoxx! Most of Brazil's cars (Beetles) have been run on ethanol since the 1970s. The trouble is that to run a car on it you'd need such an acreage of land that it just wouldn't work here and the CO2 emissions? 25%greater a mile. Yeah, right. That'll save the world then. Like catalysts.

Noticed this morning that there is a large number of what look like safety cameras been put in place on the M5 around the Avonmouth(Bristol) area.Between jct 19 & 20.Loads (about every 300 yds!) on the split level section.They still have covers over them,& no signs have been put up.This has to be 1 of the slowest sections on the M5 with bank...

I have had a very bad experience with a Citroen C5 I bought from new:
* Rear Brakes squeal admitted by Citroen but refuse to deal with it, as “it does not affect braking performance”. Ask my neighbours, check my eardrums!

Fellas, i was thinking about making a simple (cheap) 10 LED display to indicate the turbo pressure of the C5.
Of course, this could be retrofitted to any TD/HDI with a 5V MAP sensor.
Now, which wire does what? Mine has 3 wires, but i couldn't find anything about that aspect on the net, nor am i willing to spend some euros if i blow mine up :roll:...

Been some time since I mentioned the impending baby :D . Well she arrived last Wednesday (12th) at 23.23hrs, coming in at 7lbs 10.5 oz's. This is kinda on topic as it involves driving in/out of France. Its one of the proposed plans for the channel crossing/Eurotunnel. Completely mad if you ask me. Long bridges either side to 2 fake islands connected by a tunnel?!

Plus, you have to wonder why it was proposed as a hybrid bridge/tunnel. Surely one is cheaper than the other, so it may as well have either been tunnel or bridge all the way. Or is that to do with the channel's depth I wonder.

From what I remember it was an effort to keep the tunnel section as short as possible for safety reasons.

Does anyone know if a BX starter motor will fit a Pug 405 TD? What are the differences between the BX16 petrol starter and the BX17TD?

The BX TD starter will fit the 405TD. The TD starter is a heavier duty unit that the N/A. My BX N/A 1900D has a Mitsu geared starter from a Pug 205D which works fine.

Years ago had the same thing when I drove an MG Meastro 1.6 (talking dash board ) Needed a wing mirror. So down to the local Austin dealer for one. He told me it was cheaper to go to the Lucas parts stockist a couple of miles away and save a couple of quid for the same mirror.

After a brief ownage of a 1989 Peugeot 405, I've recently been looking at a turbo diesel variant, including 306s. Then I spotted the Xantia, and found it offers much better value than a 306 D turbo.

Out of curiosity will a Hydraulic pump off a 1995/6 1.6i petrol Xantia fit a 1993 TD? As they both have the same no of intlet/outlet pipes. - Alex.
A '93 pump won't fit a '95, the old single outlet pump (with flow divider) was replaced mid '94 by a dual output pump (one outlet for power steering, the other for brakes / suspension).

The Audi is boring me a little. I fancy getting back into the eccentric world of the Chevrons for my motorway cruiser - it complements the 2cv rather better!

Problem is, I don't like four cylinder engines. Too bland. So, I'm thinking about getting a Xantia V6. Do I need my head seeing or is this not a bad plan?

Or the other way to look at it....

I seem to recal, that as a lad, we used to run wires from the battery to a switch, then onto the light-whatever via a fuse.. So why does everything have relays now?? What are they for? what do they do? and why do we have them? :?

My ZX ave about 40-45 mpg.. so for a big car like the V***o to get 40 mpg is impressive.. hmm, but the reviews are not good. :(

Just got back from a wonderful few days in the DS! :D

Thanks everyone who has obviously worked behind the scenes and saved the forum and brought in forward into its new identity.

It was a shock when it dissapeared so suddenly.
Im sure yu have all had more than enough ear bashing so no questions just a thank you all :-)

Many years ago I used a holts product called wondar weld for fixing HGs and cracked blocks! I seem to recall a customer turned up with it and asked us to do what it says on the tin I also remember doing the HG on that car not long after.

If you remember on the old (shall we call it Pink forum ) the Peugeots and Renault forums seemed to be almost 'secreted' away, so when this one was devised, it was decided to place the three marques at the head of the forums so they all got almost equal billing.
The idea of course being that they would be placed in descending order of popularity...

Hmmm interesting.. If we have to rent the strip by the hour it could prove expensive, as in my case with a ZX 1.9D I may be gone for quite some time .!! heh heh ...

We've been to the FCS a couple of times, 104ZS cleanly burned off a Saxo up the strip to the shame of the chavs. But thats a good key point, we're not aiming for the Bling factor!

We've had contacts from loads of club people already inlcuding Renault Alpine, 2CVGB, Simca, Megane Owners etc and all is looking good! We meet Kemble Airfield's people...

I too spend time working away from home and computer access is one of the things I miss, a friend has a laptop with a Vodaphone mobile internet thing plugged into it but the running costs are prohibitive at the moment, soon though.

Well i`m home now,after 4 mths of working in Devon.Tried to keep up with the forum at the weekends,but it was taking to long to go through everything! :)
No news really.Still have the Xantia,now coming up to 152k.Spheres are getting tired now after nearly 4 yrs/50k.The ride is ok on smooth roads,but bumpy & choppy on rough roads.Shall put it off...

have imported many things over ebay from hong kong and china and singapore, my items have never been held back but they were quite small items.

At that price I am very tempted, but never having bought anything from outside the EC before, I was wondering if there are any pitfalls in the way of hidden costs, import duties, etc.
Has anyone had any experience of buying bits from the U.S.? I would welcome any opinions/advice, as its a good price for one of those!!!

Well, they are in the correct price range- there's loads on ebay at the moment because of free listing day: they seem to be going for about £25.00 each.......
I vaguely remember seeing a DS banger'd many years ago at Arena Essex, as well!!

The new series of scrap heap challenge demonstrated the advantages of diesel power. They both used diesel engines to power an underwater car, minimal modification to them. Mainly extended pipes for the air intake and the exhaust. The winner was a Isuzu Trooper powered by a ZX td motor bolted in the middle!!

The metal is bonded into the glass at point of manufacture. I'm not to sure how you can re-attach it. But be carefull as this happedned on my xsara. Any how next day after messing with it it shattered. Not pretty. Ask the Citroen guys this question as they'll have some product you can use.

Hi I'm guessing this applies universally to all cars, on the heated rear screens how does the connector bond to the screen? Mine has been caught getting stuff in and out the boot and is no longer attached, with winter drawing in I want to re attach it.

Interesting. Not sure I like the idea of having no control of the files that are stored on my PC though. I certainly wouldn't want viruses or dubious videos and images on my machine. Indeed, what are the legal implications? Would I be liable for distributing copyrighted material if it's stored on my machine without my consent?
