No ignition! Clutch issue?

Post by hunston »

Hello.

I posted part of this below query on another thread and realised I should have started my own thread/topic, so sorry about that. #-o
"GiveMeABreak" has kindly answered but I thought I would make an original thread and have realised would be useful to add more context.

So about my C4 Picasso:
When I want to start the engine, I depress the clutch and press the Start button and I dont get ignition. Sometimes (but not always) I get it going if I press the clutch very hard on the floor. I wonder if there could be a faulty sensor or loose connection in the clutch which doesnt tell the ignition system that the clutch pedal is depressed?
Any advice appreciated...
I took the car to a garage who replaced the starter motor as this was the most obvious possible cause.
After that didnt solve it I took a pic of the diagnostic report. Here on my OneDrive:
https://1drv.ms/i/s!AhDaDQ2zprRKy2eGmLN ... O?e=lFITJd
The garage said I need a auto-electrician not a mechanic as the fault seems to be with the clutch communication to the ignition.
I called my local Citroen Dealership who said I would need to wait for 6 weeks for the next appointment to do diagnostics with them.
So I am at a loss for what to do to get a quicker solution.

may be down to the Clutch itself / adjustment / wear
Thank you for reading and sorry again for mixing up topics and threads!

There's 2 other possibilities - these depend on engine and options as to what you have - but on some vehicles there is no clutch switch component - it may be integral to the master clutch cylinder.

The other possibility is the Engine Start Button that might be a bit 'twitchy' and not the clutch position.

You need to look in live data and see what the reported clutch position is. Failure of the clutch master cylinder on these is common, and an early sign of that could easily be reduced travel in the pedal.

Thanks for your advice Richard and Marc.
I am going to need to take it to a garage to investigate further.
Do you think I need to go to a citroen garage or would a decent general mechanic be able to figure this out, do you think?
