207 key fob not working

Post by PopPops »

Hello All,

I’m looking for a bit of advice after drawing a blank trawling the net. My wife’s 2010 207 vti started to be difficult to unlock at times with the fob, you often had to be fairly close to the car. So, I changed the battery and now it doesn’t work at all! I followed the resync procedure in the handbook and nothing. I have also tried a number of procedures found on the net and still nothing. The car starts fine with this fob, just not the remote. My fob works remote with no problems. (So this is now my wife’s and I have the non working one!!!)

Are there a number of procedures for resyncing and I just haven’t found the right one yet ?

I have checked the fob battery voltage with it installed in the board and it is correct at 3.33V. It drops slightly when you press a button so the fob is doing something.

Does Diagbox have a remote monitor so I can check to see if the remote is transmitting? I have version 7.57, but I am very concerned about messing about in the security areas in case I mess something up and end up bricking the car!!

Advice with Diagbox would be very welcome here!

Many thanks in advance.

Try this procedure, but first check that when replacing batteries, that you have removed the plastic sticker preventing battery discharge before putting the new batteries in the fob.

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

Thank you!

I made sure the battery holder was all clean. There was no plastic sticker, but I did check the voltage on the pcb which was correct.

I’ll try a bsi reset.

Cheers.

Have you tried sitting in the car with doors loocked, put key in ignition and turn on once without starting whilst holding in one of the buttons on the fob. Keep it pressed for 10 seconds and then switch off ignition, that resets mine fine. It could well be just the microswitch in the fob playing up. I replaced one of the fobs on mine last year with one from Ebay, sorted it out straight away and cheap as chips to do.

Thank you. The only permutation I haven’t tried is trying with the doors locked, I’ll give it a go when my wife returns with the car. She now has the working fob, it doesn’t worry me too much if my key doesn’t work remote.

I measured the voltage on the fob pcb when pressing each of the buttons and the small volts drop indicated the fob was doing something.

Just had a thought while writing this, the diagnostics for my Land Rover Discovery has a “key transmit” test. As the 207 and Discovery keys use the same frequency, I can see if I can detect the key using the Discovery and its diagnostics.

I’ll keep you informed of the outcome, and thanks for the EBay tip.

For completeness, the fob is now working. My Land Rover diagnostics would not detect a Peugeot key, so I finished a 433MHz receiver I had been making, long story. This detected both the LR key and the 207 key, so I was confident the fob was fully working, so back to the 207 for one last attempt at re initialising the key to the car.

I again used the procedure in the handbook and this time, first attempt, it worked! I don’t know if I did something slightly different, or if the BSI had some form of timeout due to failed re initialisation attempts or what, but both fobs are now working correctly.

Thanks for all you comments and assistance.

Cheers.
