Thanks Marc, I think I might risk one of the aftermarket ones, given the age of the car and the cost of the OEM part.

No problem, just be aware that I tried an aftermarket on my MK II C5 many moons ago after it was badly damaged. It was a Polish one, and did not fit well. All the fixing holes were in the wrong place and the material was rally badly moulded plastic of really poor quality. I managed to get it fixed down after re-drilling it, but did get a refund as it was really poor.

I certainly would stick to original in future and ended up getting a new one in any case as it lasted a month before tearing itself apart.

I would hope they have improved since them, and there's a £36 one here and similar on Autodoc.

At least if you search 7013EC on Google you'll get plenty of options.

And I had the opposite experience with an aftermarket underbody shield on my Mk1 C5. All right, there was no soundproofing but the shield did the job of strengthening the other panels it connected to and no doubt helped smooth the airflow under the car. The shield also included new clips and fasteners.

Basically I got what I paid for.

Thanks for that info ,Marc. I've clicked on that one you mentioned, along with a number of others that refer to C4 and selecting Mr. Ebay's " select vehicle option ", a lot of them come up as "This will not fit your vehicle". I mention this because it would seem a really good idea to ask the seller for confirmation that it's the right part, rather than just go off the on line description.

Hi Paul, Thanks for that advice. You mentioned other panels that the undertray helps stiffen. From what I can see by looking under the sill, I would guess it fits to the panel under the front bumper and then further back I suppose about under the firewall area, I believe I can see what appears to be a flat panel with 2 studs hanging down. Is this what the rear of the undertray attaches to, do you think? I am assuming that the sides of the undertray attach to the chassis rails by some magical means, or are there some plastic side panels that I need as well? Thanks again for your help,

I hesitate to say yes because I have no knowledge of the C4 but I would guess yes. As well as the front and back it especially tied into the inner wheelarch panels on the left and right.

If you look at the parts diagram you can see how the front undertray attaches and the type of fasteners. At the front end are 3 tabs that go into the bottom of the bumper section and use 3 screws and speed nuts 72/77. At the sides it will fasten 72 to the bottom of the plastic wheel arches in front/inside of the wheels and there could be speed nut/clips which Citroen like to use clipped to the wheel arch. At the back it shows studs 71 which are probably at the back of the subframe and nuts 70 fasten the undertray to them.

If you do fit an undertray, make sure all the fasteners/nuts are greased since they rust and once seized can damage the plastic panels as it is attempted to undo them, especially the speed nuts/clips which will turn with the seized nuts. The side ones are not too much of a problem though if damaged since they can be repositioned away from the damage but it makes a 5 minute job take ages trying to undo them all.

Thanks Paul, I've ordered a medium priced undertray and appropriate fitting kit. I'll let my local garage put them together ( I'll blame the weather, lack of space, the fact there's an r in the month, anything except admit I'm probably a bit too old to roll around under cars anymore!!)

A quick update on the brakes. All 4 corners have been stripped cleaned and sliders lubricated. And handbrake adjustment checked. Brakes are a lot better now. I think we can put it down to what we used to discreetly refer to as a lacquer problem ie a "lack a" maintenance ( mustn't upset our customers)! The engine undertray will no doubt fit...once I buy a new under bumper tray, since on inspection a good amount of the existing one is missing, particularly the bit that the engine tray attaches to ( I believe there is a law beginning with S that applies to that). I know it's another thread but I would like to add my thanks and appreciation for all the work that Marc does on this forum. So now I have to ask another question, or 2 actually. Easy bit, should there be any sort of flexible connection between the air intake box and the corresponding aperture at the top of the front grille please? There is a noticeable "air intake noise " when accelerating, which makes me think there might be something missing. Secondly, and I'm sorry gentlemen I have to get technical here, The rear corner of the bonnet sits on a squadgy foam rubber bit with a top skin ( told you it was technical) between the mudguard and the the top of the firewall on the driver's side but not the passenger side, so I guess it's missing. Is it possible to get a part no. for this item please and a possible supplier. Once again, many thanks to all.

This advert of a C4 2013 1.6 vti has a photo of the engine area https://cccnz.club/classified/2013-citroen-c4-1-6vti/ Those foam bits are missing on this one though.

Foam Pad
Foam Pad
Thanks for that info Paul. It might not have answered the bit about the foam pads, but I did note that there does seem to be something joining the air intake to the front grille. However, I think the intake to the air box is different to mine.I can't recall seeing the rounded section of the plastic box, I must go have a look.
OK, I've had a look and the air box intake aperture is relatively square, but I notice the one in the advert photo has a gap between it and the grille for most of the aperture. So that part of the airbox, which clips together might be different for overseas markets. Also, possibly there might not be a foam pad on the passenger side at all. There is a recess in the top of the pad and I believe the purpose of this part is to protect the washer pipe which is attached to the hinge at that point. Also the pad is attached by means of a bright green peg which fits into a hole in the top of the mudguard. This peg is visible in the advert photo. I'll try to attach a photo to show you what I mean. All questions answered so another triumph for the forum. Thanks again guys.
PS The car in the ad has an orange display on the centre screen and the speedo, etc. Mine is blue/white. Can you change the colour, as I only seem to be able to vary the intensity of the blue/white combination.

You should have a similar foam pad at the other side. I found a photo in a manual for the 1.6 hdi and that showed pads at each side. You could do with the part numbers so you can get one but it may be a dealer only part and if you try a used one it might be falling apart.
