Citroen c3 picasso

Post by Huskyxantia »

Citroen c3 picasso.

Why did i do it. Well needed abit more room but not massive ammounts so this was my choice
2012 1.6hdi. New clutch last Jan 2022. Plenty of service history and under 90,000 miles .

Bad points.
Back fog light cracked car park marks
Warning on dash after 90 mile drive
Engine oil pressure high stop engine
This then came on every time i slowed down
Then cleared on accleration, no smoke no engine knock ticks over perfect. This morning i popped an engine flush into a warm engine ran it for longer then directed i wanted it to really push some gunk around, then drained it. It looked like there was way to much oil in it unscrewing the sump nut by now you know when it will stop its flow of blackness , this just kept flowing ! My oil drain pan is 16L this got to about half way full !
I also did an old fashioned flush petrol mixed with oil about half a litre injected into the oil filter lifter turn with a syringe to clean the mesh at the end of it and some into the oil filler cap hole this will be left to soak for a few hours over night to clear any crud cant wait till the morning to see how bad the last drop of mix is when it gets drained again. The oil filter looked like it had be rolled through a sand pit too.
This car had 2 previois owners both ladys & the same garages under took service & mot each year , or did they me thinks mot yes service maybe not.

Welcome to C3 Picasso ownership Husky :) I'm watching your adventures with interest...

They are seriously useful cars and they grow on you... Or, at least, mine has...

Same engine as mine but yours is devoid of the Adblue and SCR bits... That may be a blessing ;)

Sounds like the garage were a bit economical on the serving aspect...

Thanks Jim , yes its a nice car not the fastest but you don't always need speed , well some of the rolling stones did , do.. yes.... Any way im gong to be using it today the wife likes it a lot i like how easy it is getting in & out of it, ive got 2 new tyres for it, should be fitted this friday it was through ebay 2 for 67 pounds free fitting choice of your own place to be fitted it was a flash deal i just had to do it . Been silly not to.

For a small mpv they have plenty of room & small running costs . Lets see where this adventure goes.
Maybe we could both post in this thread as and when ?

My local mechanic completed the job . The home made flush did push out some crappy stuff this last bit was left to drain for 30 mins while we both had a cuppa and put the world to rights , oh im getting old , Then the 3.7L measurement of oil was added after a new oil filter was fitted . Everything cleaned up and put away engine started sounded lighter if that makes sense . Fingers crossed that warning has been sorted. Will report back later :?

Well, light came back on. Next step oil sensor switch then sump off check the strainer for blockages seeing a 20000 mile service interval was five to this car this maybe a very dirty engine. I service 6000 to 9000 miles. Ive spoke to a good freind who owns a garage and going to do as he suggested.

Update . So i dug out of the shed my endoscope you know hand held camera for poking down holes in cars . Well what a discovery slid along the rocker valve area then it all went black so carefully pulling the lead back out the end of the camera was caked in thick squishy carbon . I then clean it off then poked it down the rodney hole, dipstick that is, look at all that nice clean oil sitting there. I then started the engine went back under the rocker cover hardy no oil coming up at all just a tiny dribble, i went back down the rodney hole and my new clean oil was dancing around all shiny and new , so i think its a defo sump off and the lifter mesh needs a good clean. But it can wait till the weather picks up. So pleased i purchased this little hand held tool 22 quid off ebay pictures are clear and the light is adjusterble too. Is it true the rockers have tiny holes the oils comes up through ? These maybe blocked ? Whats a good way of cleaning them spray something or thin wire poke down them or both ?

I dosed mine on the C4 Picasso with Valvoline oil cleaner. It did a good job and cleaned the top end very well, you just add it to the engine oil so easy to do!! :)

She'll be well worth spending some time on Husky... Shocking to hear of how gunked up she is... I'll be dropping my oil and filter change interval to half the recommended now...

Yes, The ease of getting in and out of the car is a big bonus and so is the space... That was proved again today, moving my granddaughter's car seat between her mum's Clio and my Picasso. The Clio is a real struggle because it's so small and ergonomically poor in the back. The Picasso is so easy as there's so much room... Little one loves the panoramic sunroof too :D A nice little bonus is the little auxiliary rear-view mirror to keep an eye on those in the rear :)

I meant to say, misted up rear fog lights, reversing lights and side repeaters is normal. All mine are...

I've now subscribed to this thread and between us we can have a thread of our Picasso adventures :D

Cool Jim , this could help other owners too, shocking to think the 1.6hdi engine cross platform aswell so many cars and all state different service times. Common sense mechanics are the best route thats what I've always stuck too & if in doubt ask .

Absolutely :D And the critical thing, it seems, is to check the injector clamp tightness. It was revealing to see in the thread you linked to about cleaning the oil strainer cited much less trouble with the engine in Volvos where they do advise clamp tension is checked at every service compared to the others, including PSA and Ford, who don't...

I reckon do that and halve the service interval and all should be happy... And to use the best recommended oil too...

So ive source the bits needed 44 English pounds, im going for the option of remove the old strainer and replace with new its quicker less messy the switch was the most expensive part . I will check my injector clamps to be on the safe side as prevention is best .just need some dry weather !
