Mick's Motoring Wales Wander

Post by mickthemaverick »

Jim and I actually had some time to spare yesterday so we had a quick brainstorm on ideas for the next trip. We managed to get a basic route plan and identified a date for it from which I can now publish this initial plan to be elaborated on over the next few months. As usual if you are able to meet us for coffee, lunch or dinner along the way so much the better, I have included some initial hopefuls in the layout so please confirm or deny those asap so I can start arranging things. !! :-D

I can confirm my willingness as far as is possible. If we go to France for Easter we should be back by then. On the other hand, if I'm relaxing Chez Hôpital probably not!

Excellent, we are going to stay in the same place I stayed with Ken last time on the Thursday night. so perhaps you could join us as you did before or even for dinner? Failing that we could drop in on our way up to Monmouth whichever suits you better, although we will have more time on the Thursday evening! :-D

I should make the effort to visit Wales. If only I could remember where our family was from I might.

Apologies for any confusion I may have caused over Easter dates. This is the page that came up in response to my question When is Easter 2024?

I am now aware that Easter is 31st March which makes more sense but doesn't make any difference to our plan as we will still be outside the school holidays which was the intention.

So sorry about that but at least you can see how it came about! :-D

I actually thought you were making a joke and would explain that it was Greek or Russian Orthodox, or something like that.

No Paul, a straightforward case of not reading the small print!! #-o We did think it a bit odd having never known Easter to be that late before but for whatever reason we didn't question it further at the time. It's just fortunate that we picked dates the other side of school holidays so the mistake made no real difference!! :-D

In the first year I was post to Cyprus I enjoyed our UK Easter and then on arrival, enjoyed the Greek Orthodox one too... Result!

Robyn put me right on the Easter dates this afternoon Mick!

That would be brilliant Forrester, we are intending to have dinner and stay at :

The Globe Inn Alvington
Address: Clanna Road Alvington, Alvington, GL15 6BA, United Kingdom
Phone: +44 7809 159202

Nothing is actually booked yet but we should be there for dinner around 6.30 and drinks in the bar afterwards. Last time Gibbo just joined for drinks which was great and you are welcome to join before or after dinner. I will be making the bookings for our rooms and the dinner table in the new year so hopefully I will have definite numbers by the end of this one!! :-D

After my initial look at our intended route I checked out the Landranger maps we would need and this is the list:

165, 151, 163, 162, 149, 147, 135, 124, 115, 116, 117, 119, 120, 129, 141, 152 and back to 165.

I then checked that list against my library to discover these five were missing:

151, 149, 116, 119 and 120.

I ordered them all yesterday and today saw two packets arrive while I was out:
MTMO

So three more to come and I will be able to start plotting the route!! :-D

The more astute among the readership will notice that these are not the latest versions, that is not an issue as we simply cope with alterations as we come across them in the wild (plus it keeps the navigator on his toes!! ) :-D

Just to keep the plan handy:
