Additive ECU no communication

Post by paddypaws77 »

Any ideas anyone?
I put Diagbox on my car, 2006 Peugeot 307SW, 2.0HDi 138, as I needed to programme a new key. In doing a faults test it tells me there is no communication with the additive ECU. The car isn't actually showing any faults at present.
The additive is the bag type and I have changed the bag.
Any clues as to how to start diagnosing this?
Is the ECU actually with the pump in the tank? Would no power to the pump cause the lack of communication with the ECU or is the ECU remote from the pump/tank??
I gather the additive pump fuse is shared with various other things so it would be obvious if a fuse ahd gone.
Any tips greatly appreciated :-D

Can't advise without the VIN, as it depends on what your build date is. There are 2 types of system, the earlier with a separate additive ECU (that are commonly known to fail when trying to reset and need replacing) and the later ones that does not have the separate ECU - that function being taken over by the engine ECU.

Vin is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Struggling under the car I find the earth cable works and I have voltage at the other two cables with ignition on. Cant vouch fully for these voltages as I am not sure I had a good connection with the multimeter. Middle one was fluctuating up to about 9v, outer one 10v.
I have the tank off and have tested the motor which runs fine.

Ok, so confirmed you have the later engine ECU-controlled version.

Just check the pins and connections but especially the pins at the connectors as these can cause issues.

OK! So I have found time to get back to this. I have just the pump plugged in under the car and as far as I know the connections are good, all pins etc have been cleaned up. Still no communicatiion with the pump. Can anyone tell me what voltages I should be getting at the pins?? This being with the ignition on but car not running. Do I need to check voltages with the car running too? I obviously can't check if running a pump test as the pump has no communication so can't initiate that.
Thanks

The pump is only active when commanded as far as I can see, so to test the actual pump you would need to provide it with a separate supply for a bench test.

Thanks Marc.
Interesting thing is, I just went under the car, with the ignition on, and the pump is running, constantly!! It obviously has power to it but not being controlled. My understanding was that the pump would just pulse, or am I wrong with that??

I don't know which sort of pump you have there are several varieties - and some are multiplexed versions so are controlled differently.

I've looked at the wiring diagram and I'm no better off as it still asks for details on the type of pump! Both have a separate Additive ECU shown, so that contradicts the parts information that shows no separate additive ECU! So totally useless.

So I can't help you with this as Peugeot's own info is contradictory and this is not uncommon.

I have reset the BSI. Error code has gone from engine module. I still have no communication with the additive pump and BSI gives F017 No communication with the diesel additive pump Cause local Characterisation of the fault Not characterised

Which is useless, but unsurprising as if there's no comms it can't come back with any other fault code.

Well Diagbox skips the ECU without giving an error so I presume it doesn't see an ECU.
I think it is a multiplexed pump!

SO, if there is an additive ECU WHERE would it be located??
Thanks

I'm not saying there is! That's the issue - parts says it's engine ECU controlled and electrical just shows the separate ECU. So I can't show you what isn't supposed to be there, but the older system has the additive ECU here, shown as 1282:
307 addittive ecu.PNG
But I'm almost 100% sure you don't have it. Regardless of the image showing LHD, it would of been in the same place where fitted.
