The 2023 CCC National Rally

Post by CitroJim »

I visited the Citroen Car Club National Rally yesterday (Saturday) at Abbots Ripton (just north of Huntingdon) after a busy and wet morning at parkrun...

A lovely location but out in the back of beyond...

I was quite shocked at the low numbers attending...

The show is celebrating 40 years of the BX and there's some very tasty examples present...

I'll be going back again today (Sunday) after parkrun..

Here's an album of photos taken on Saturday: https://photos.app.goo.gl/zCnM1hJtGn2HA5He7

My favourite so far is this rare Series 1 AX GT5. I don't normally like four door cars but make an exception here!

I went to Bishops Ripton a few years back and almost came undone as I had confused it with Bishops Stortford and was on my way there by mistake.

It was nice to meet up with you again Jim, I’m hoping there are more cars there today. I assumed the rain put people off yesterday.

This was my favourite image from your gallery Jim, apart from your own car which is very appealing and always takes a nice photo!

Would you ever put Beige in favourite colours for cars :?: ....yes I think this one would just make it and beautifully offset by the shiny chrome of the wheels, and the general colourfulness of the setting and the sky, and the best photo of mudflaps I have seen on the forum since I joined in 2009!

It was really great to see you Maurice 😎😀 As you saw, The Sunday crowds were out in force and it made it a tremendously magical rally with a great vibe 😀 I loved every second of it, seeing friends old and new. I've talked myself hoarse!

Here's the Sunday photo album 🙂

A very diverse range of cars and I think I got most of them...

My Sunday favourite 😎

It was good to see everything there from a concours DS to a row of very hot Saxos 😍

From today's selection I'd have to pick this as my favourite as it is the one Citroen that I've always fancied but never been able to afford, and probably never will now!! :-D

However there was another interesting picture which I'll pinch from Jim and put on POTD!! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Plenty there Jim!
The red and blue DS made "a nice pair but too easy for a whatsthisthen" so that's the thread I've nicked them for while crediting the photographer of course.

While there were plenty of estates on show this little one has been nicked and given pride of place on the Estates/shooting brakes etc thread. in a similar fashion.

Will ? Re-gassed the rear spheres on my Xantia in the afternoon and drew a crowd of onlookers. He spent a much time answering questions as doing the spheres so was very interesting and free with his knowledge. Thanks mate.

That was the best bit of the show for me Maurice :) Not only is Will very, very technically knowledgeable and an unparalleled engineer but also very entertaining with it :D

Good one of you here, watching proceedings...

Agreed Jim about the best bit of the show. Will’s a very clever and entertaining guy. He was talking about doing the rear centre sphere but ran out of time, maybe next year. Years ago re-gassing was readily available but it’s not now.

Both my rear spheres were down to 15 bar, they should be at 30, so they’d lost 50%. They were dated 2015 but when I got home and checked they were fitted in Nov 2017, so had been hanging about for 2 years before being fitted by Barry @ Bourne Citroen Centre.
