C5 X7 rear hydraulic pipe-hose stainless substitute

Post by Svod »

Hi everyone,
Two years ago I was forced to change rear hydraulic pipes on my ’09 x7 2.2HDi cause one of them leaks. Whereas the pipes was unavailable to buy here I decided to create substitute from original. I was working on it with my colleague. We tested almost 10 pairs during last year and half and we can now manufacture them for C5 X7
Citroen numbers for them are:
- 5270VG C5 X7 right
- 5270VF C5 X7 left
Tubes are similar to original, except they are not made form zinc steel, but from stainless to ensure long life. Next difference is that they are separable to 3 pcs (1st one is stainless steel pipe, 2nd one is rubber hose, 3rd one is stainless upper part which is connected to rear hydraulic piston). Rubber hose is certified for use with more than 300 Bar pressure, but even if somewhere in future hose starts to leak, it is possible to change only the hose. Not whole pipe.
We want to make first larger batch and to specify the price I’m curious if some of you want to buy those for your C’s.
Let me know if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Hi Svod

We normally don't allow advertising for products on the Forum, but as this will be of specific interest to members with C5 X7s, we've made an exception. Given the ongoing supply problems and unavailability of pipework on these models, I'm sure this will be of benefit to many members.

There are two questions I want to ask. First, is the rubber hose suitable for use with the LDS fluid? Second, is there any possibility that you will make pipework for the earlier C5s?

Rubber hose is suitable for wide range of hydraulic fluids. It is used in heavy industry hydraulic machines. Also I've already driven 40k km with them with no problem (since 02/2021).
If you want to something specific for earlier C5, please send me an message.

Another idea for you Svod, the pipes from the front firmness regulator to the suspension cylinders share the same fittings, so your technology is transferrable to those as well, you'd just need to measure up the front pipework, to plan your bends and hose lengths. Also, your system is going to be easier to install than the original one-piece parts, especially the one for the front left cylinder which if I remember goes pipe-->hose-->pipe-->hose-->pipe. It's a monstrosity, and very difficult to replace, even with the engine out. Whereas with your system, it wouldn't be anywhere near as difficult to snake in one of your sections of tube, screw on a hose, snake in the next pipe, screw it on to the hose, rinse repeat. I'd also be interested in buying a set of them.

Hi Jay,

front ones are planned too. There is still need to resolve banjo joints connection to distributor. I´ll update when success.

Let us know if you need a hand with CAD, for these parts, as you can see from this thread, viewtopic.php?p=749754#p749754 I'm working in CAD to make adapter nipples to enable our guys to flare up their own LDS style pipe ends, and I'd be happy to help your project. We are literally attacking different sides of the same coin, you're on the pipework from regulators to cylinders, I'm on the pipework from BHI to regulators. I was saying in another thread that I'm delighted to see you attacking these pipes, and our projects aren't stepping on each other's toes, and together we're solving the surprising unavailability of parts for these cars.

Hi Jay,

I hope that we are not stepping on each other's toes in our projects. But I think that there will be probably more than one solution of saving our cars for the future. We are trying to go the original way with few modifications.

please see attached:
Pipe from AL piece to front HP pum is not a problem.
20230329_153032.jpg
Also pipe from AL piece to firmness regulator is not a problem (i dont have it here, but you can visualize it on photo :) ), but I still have only version without rubber hose part (it works the same for me, but maybe if there will be a time...)

20230329_154522.jpg
During next days I plan to prepare drawings for the aluminium piece to made it from stainless steel. If you see those 2 tiny shiny pieces betwen AL piece and black regulator - they are also stainless...

I think that our goal is the same, maybe the ways are different.

Our methods aren't that different...

...you will probably see that the pipe end assembly / fitting in that picture bares more than a passing resemblance to the following screenshot of my early CAD models...

But as I said in the same post...
