Another update. I haven't got a timing kit but when you start car it's like sluggish on two turns before starting up,battery is good don't know if it's starter motor or sounds like timing out on classic cars if you know what I mean. Just out of interest and remember it shuts off cylinder 1 and fan kicks in I started car and disconnected cam sensor exhaust side and no eml light and runs alot better, no misfire and doesn't switch off cylinder 1 and no fan kicking in. I swapped sensor but if I plug it back in same fault comes back. Strange one lol

I bought a 207CC with low compression on cylinder 1 that turned out to be caused by one partly dropped exhaust valve seat in cylinder 1. Because the valve could not return all the way home the rocker shaft had dropped off. The timing chain and guides appeared to be relatively new. The timing was equally well advanced on both camshafts so am I correct in thinking that it is likely that the crankshaft timing chain sprocket had slipped? I note that it is difficult to be sure that one has cleaned the rear face of the oil pump sprocket and the end face of the crankshaft without actually removing the oil pump and chain plus sprocket. There is also the question about possible re-use of the crankshaft centre hub bolt, but at 14mm it is a very stout bolt. Even if it lost say 25% of its clamping force that 180 degree angle tightening is still putting a lot of force on the sprockets.

I fitted another engine and it's running great except occasionally I get p11a8 fault code which is exhaust side selonoid which my delphi says but I swapped out the selonoid with a new one but still getting the code even when I clear code and calibrate . I'm thinking it's the exhaust cam vvt hub but how do I check that ?

It was interesting that Marc showed that the oil pressure regime differs between the two engines, which I can only imagine involves a difference between the oil pumps in the two engine versions. I assume that your original engine ECU has expectations about what pressures it expects to see at certain revs and maybe it gets unhappy occasionally? Since the engine is running well I would be inclined to just monitor the situation over a few thousand miles.
I am also wondering if cylinder 1 (furthest from the water pump end) is more prone to problems because it runs hotter? In the block the coolant has to flow past all the other cylinders before it gets to the 'back' of the engine, and I can't see any design strategy to equalise the flow to all cylinders. I'm also curious that in the VTi engine the head gasket has openings on the exhaust side of the bores, but not on the inlet side, unlike the turbo engine.

Dear colleagues,

I would have some questions. I bought a Citroen DS3 2011 and saw that the engine is 5F01, instead of 5FS, without solenoid on the oil pump. I discovered then the solenoid on the rear side of the engine.

Question to you: What is happening if I remove it completely?

Second: Is my engine Euro 5? All the accessories are the same, including the catalyzer, except the solenoid which I cannot find inside due to a missing hole in the engine block.

Third: That error of P15A0 - how can I get rid of it? Is there a way to put another soft to the car, specific for EP6?

Many thanks.

No need to worry, the Forum masks it automatically.

So in order to check, I'm sending you a Private Message with your actual original engine serial number, so you can double check this.

Thank you Marc. Not sure what engine is. I assume it is 5F01 or 5FW. Can you tell me your opinion on the questions above please?

This fault will depend on the exact version of Engine ECU that you have.

Check the Injection ECU label. You will have either on of the following MED17.4 or MED17.4.2
MED C5 X7.png
Let me know which you have as it makes a difference to the fault codes.

I will have a look tomorrow. But I can already tell you every accessory from the 5FS engine is present, including the ECU.

Engine ECU BOSCH MEV17.4.2
Fault Code: P15A0
Description of Fault: Lubrication system: Oil pressure too high in mechanical mode.

Possibility 1
Comparison of the pressure with a threshold at 300 mbar
Possibility 2
Too many successive transitions into oil pump downgrade mode while the pressure is too high (Greater than 5)
Possibility 3
The pressure is too high in relation to the engine speed (Pressure gradient above 10 for 50 ms)

Conditions of activation of the diagnostics
The following conditions have to be met:
- engine running
- Battery voltage correct
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Confirmation of the return to automatic mode of the oil pressure regulation
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Change to "mechanical mode" on the piloted oil pump
Symptoms:
  • Excessive fuel consumption
Suspect Areas:
  • Sealing of the engine
  • Electrovalve
  • Oil pump
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Oil pressure sensor
