Interesting and bang on topic Steve..

In recent days good old Sainsbury’s /pod point have provided the B.B. Leaf with a free 7kW drink, at the Heaton Store, and across the water today at their store in Sunderland just by Northern Spire Bridge over the Wear, they also provide a free charging point.

That wins the price war in the NE in February 2024

They have of course been doing this fro ICE fuels for a long time, 'Spend £40 instore and get 5p a litre off your petrol/diesel' has been used quite a lot for promotions even had it in the USA and Australia.

I had a struggle to listen to him too and gave up after a while but thought it would interest our BEV owners.

Same with a thing on Norway, looked very interesting but the narrator was painful, and American.
Did watch a couple with Neil DeGrasse Tyson and despite it being American was tolerably.

"Electric commercial vehicle manufacturer Arrival has entered administration, having failed to launch its debut electric van.

A statement issued on behalf of Arrival Group said: "The Group’s liquidity position has been impacted by challenging market and macroeconomic conditions resulting in delays in getting the Group’s products to market.

"As such, the Joint Administrators are now exploring options for the sale of the business and assets of the Companies, including its electric vehicle platforms, software, intellectual property and R&D assets, for the benefit of creditors."

Arrival develop purpose-built commercial vehicles, including flexible and sustainable manufacturing methods. Its vehicle platforms include last-mile delivery vans, intracity buses and ride-sharing passenger cars and are backed by proprietary software applications, intellectual property and patents, with more than $1.5bn having been invested to date.

The group is headquartered in Banbury and operates from nine sites across the UK. Currently, Arrival employs around 400 people.

In 2023, in response to a challenging capital market environment, it was announced that production would be focused on its Class 4 delivery van (the “XL Van”), to be sold in the US market. "

Simple facts of the vehicle business you need an awful lot of cash to get one off the ground and if the investors start to sweat a little the money dries up.

I can certainly understand that thinking Gibbo but I was a trifle amazed to see they have already spent more than $1.5billion and not got the van into production. I wonder how much of that was spent to meet H&S and legal requirements within the sites?

In a few more, they were struggling back in 2022.

Arrival have featured in the pages of this thread before with their Start up Electric Vans and buses, and their innovative "microfactories" and Robert Llewellyn has been a couple of times to the factory for a very positive nose around. They started off in Bicester Oxfordshire but then set up an HQ in the USA at Charlotte North Carolina, and listed on the NASDAQ.

They have a partnership and have been working with UPS to design and build 10,000 Vans and received considerable initial backing from Hyundai.

Currently the share price graph doesn't make happy reading from 12 months ago at first listing to now. They remain in the very much pre-volume production of vehicles loss-making stage, now stepping into a world where previously uninterested large automakers are all piling in with their offerings in the same space Arrival are looking for a growth phase.

With the company in administration those large automakers will be in there picking up the goodies and leaving the shareholders with a penny in the pound if it goes to the usual ending.
We'll see the vans completed but not by the people who set it all up.

Noticed this subtle change while having a drink at TESCO

The charging points (pod-point) used to be logoed-up VW. Now they have the Vauxhall logo clagged over the VW one. Have never really watched the "video" screen at the charge point, but maybe Vauxhall now bombard the "charger-upper" with their marketing info and are in some partnership now with Tesco/Pod-point.
