Examine main fusebox in engine bay, I seem to think they might have another one (just with about 4 large fuses in) check that too if it has one.

Do any of the other instrument panel warning lights / fuel gauge etc work ? , you may of lost the panel or main interior supply power.

update have just been recovered by the aa because his computer would not make contact with the van didnt want to no he did say that he could not feel anything with the plug relay when the ignition was switched on and off but that meant the problem was before the relay

My son's 306 had similar symptoms and it was a poor connection to the glow plug relay.

could a faulty stop solenoid be causing this problem have been ringing around and someone has come up with this stating that this shuts of the relay to the glow plugs and that is why there is no plug light showing also there is no power to the plugs do not no if this could be true or is it just b###sh##

Hi.

Surely if the engine stopped while running, it can't be the glo plug relay, can it ?...

Pump fuel solenoid may be...

Good luck

Glow plug supply won't effect the running (Starting yes when cold) but not running.

Neither will a dead ECU if its electronically controlled, unless a tachometric relay is under the ECU's control.

Basically if there's power to the solenoid and its open it should run (will sound horrendous fully advanced without the ECU though but it will run)

95% chance the pump is a Lucas, Bosch DW8's do exist (despite reading to the contrary) but they are rare.

Are the big fuses in the engine bay OK then ? , the glowplug supply feed may well be ran though one of these and with no resistance (ie no power to plugs) it may not operate the light.

Me too... used to start perfectly when I had one in then suddenly nothing! The glow plug relay box on the 306 is on the back of the battery box, and the main 12v feed to the box connection had corroded and broke away. Cut it back fitted a new terminal and first time starting was resumed.

The DW8 is NOT a DI engine, its still an older IDI which really needs loads of heat to start when cold. They will NOT start from cold without heaters....

The problem being is that it just stopped while i was driving it and then would not restart could the relay still cause a engine to die while it was running

No. to stop it either has no fuel or a broken cam belt.

remove the inlet and undo one of the injector pipes with 17mm spanner.. you only need to crack it open and then spin the engine.. if theres fuel it will spurt out the pipe top..

stopping mid flight though doesnt sound good... :-(

the cambelt is still intact and turning the engine over have not checked fuel side of things yet but when the engine cut out it was as if the ignition had been turned off there was no spluttering and farting about it just died also before when i turned the ignition on you had a faint clicking from what i thought was the pump or a relay but thats not there anymore either thanks for your help upto now

Check for fuel as above, just undo one injector pipe (injector end) a half a turn or a turn at most. Pop a piece of rag around it. Crank the engine for a few seconds then go and see if the rag is wet with fuel or not. :)
