xsara picasso dash lights??

Post by deano1970 »

hi, I have just taken ownership of a xsara picasso. I notice that the lights are slightly dimmer on the left hand side, where the speedo, temp and mileometer are, than the right hand side.I did not get an owners hand book and dont yet have a manual for it,So I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the bulbs are difficult to change? I suspect two may be out looking at it... I have turned the brightness up to full and it is easily readable, but would like to replace the bulbs if its an easy job? cheers, dean

Hi there..

Is this a Mk.1 Picasso?? As in Xsara Picasso? NOT a C4 Picasso..

Then its very simple

The plastic trim surround around the speedo unit simply "Pops" out with a leverage IE: A screw driver! Yes as easy as that! Levering out at your discretion, I think I just did it at neumerious places, but it does just pop out.

Then theres two T10 Torx screws holding the LCD unit in place, with One plug at the rear...

Then from behind you will find an array of completely "standard" small bulbs and holders just like Xantias etc...!

Replace and refit!

I found wearing a pair of latex gloves helps to do this job, i just placed my fingers under the top section of the black surround & give it a bit of a sharp tug (hence wearing gloves = better grip) but like 'citroenxm' said they are easy to pop out, i think the actual binnacle is held in by Torx 20 screws (x2) & if it's an early spec' Picasso it will have 2 wiring plugs going to the back of it (and possibly an small black control unit plugged/attached to it). I always found it easier to get the bulb holders out by using a pair of long nose pliers as the are set into the back of the binnacle + the bulbs can be a wee bit tight in their holders, i used to pull 'em out using the pliers but then I've had plenty of practice but the aforementioned latex gloves come in handy for grip to pull them out. The actual binnacle uses 9 of these very small capless bulbs but that doesn't include the dozen or so of warning light bulbs.
Music keeps me going.
