REPLACING LIGHT BULBS XANTIA HDi (Just a tip)

Post by jmd »

Having had the nasty experience of changing Headlamp Bulbs & also Spot Lamp, or Fog-Light bulbs & experienced tearing the flesh off my hands & using bad language trying to fit bulbs in such confined spaces.
Experience has taught me that removing the Headlamp is the fastest and easiest way to remove & fit a bulb. Also if front spotlight/fog-light bulb is to be repaced lots of space can be got by removing the headlamp.

Thought I would pass on the tip, perhaps on the other hand everybody does that & I am just a late learner

Thanks for tip. I need to replace my O/S headlamp bulb.

Also my lights must shake a bit, because the beam shakes like a jelly when going over some road surfaces. Anyone know what this is? I had to replace headlamps when I moved to France so as to get the correct dipping direction.

i upgraded my hdi to xenons and that was a royal PITA but i found that just being very very careful it was less hassle to do it from the back but then again i guess it depends on what shape and size your hands are etc

Either the relective lens is loose inside the lamp, or possibly, the lower 10mm bolt under the lamp is missing, though the lamp rarely moves when that one is missing... so most likely a loose lens..

Have to say that although the process of replacing headlamp bulbs on my X2 resembles a minor surgical procedure I would prefer not to remove the whole unit to do it.
One tip I can pass on for the offside unit is to put a loosely attached, brightly coloured cable tie through the back cover retaining clip so that it can used to pull the clip back into position after the bulb is replaced. Saves much time and anglo saxon verbal abuse :D

Petrol Xantia II light bulb change is very easy, at least for me :?
In order to change bulb on the right side I just remove ECU box lid which gives more space.
On the left side (battery side) no need to remove anything and you reach easily to the dust cover.

I would say, Xsara II headlight bulb change is a real 'challenge'

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but after finding this post, I've changed the bulb on the drivers side, had to remove the headlight, but all done in 20 mins, no scrapes, scuffs or blood.

Cheers JMD

N/S bulb change on a XM is a pain, as all the relays are in the way. BX's are dead easy, just pop the headlight off!! Brilliant piece of design.
