Power steering pump problem

Post by ebrahimsalama »

The power steering pump stopped working while i was driving and when i turned of the engine and then turned it on again the problem solved. But the problem keeps recurring. I need to know why?

I did these actions:
I checked the fuse box
reconnected the earth wire.
I used a tie rap to fix the plug of the pump.

I still have the same problem

We'll need the VIN to determine the system you have fitted as they are different. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Ok so you have an electro pump. These are operated directly from the battery, so if you have a weak battery there may not be enough power getting to the power steering pump.

How old is the battery? If it's anything older than 5 years it needs changing most likely, because as it ages, it looses capacity so can't store as much energy as a new one.

Are you also getting a good voltage output from the alternator at the battery & also getting the same voltage at the main pump connector?
With the engine running & the pump not working if you tap the metal part of the pump casing with a mallet does it start working again?
