Hi bud yes I think as in a lot of cars they just use the same looms so those thicker wires are for a version of this group of cars that does have a pump. My actual car apologies which is a Vauxhall Astra has wiring plugs just dangling for nothing, but these plugs are for the diesel version etc. so I’ve ordered a high pressure pump now going to try that.

They probably use the same loom on a lot of different versions of this system, but def no fuel pump in the tank, somIm back to thinking it’s a problem with the high pressure pump, somehow fuel is at the low pressure going in, but nothing coming out of the high pressure

Beginning to wish I’d never got this van, so whilst waiting for the high pressure pump to turn up, took battery off to put on charge, now I’ve put the battery back on, I’m getting a orange padlock and fuel cut off on the dash and you can hear the fuel pressure regulator on the pump going mad, any ideas guys?

Now if I cycle the key off and on a few times the padlock symbol and message are gone but when connecting diag box it will now only communicate with the engine ecu and that’s it any ideas why people?

So today decided to try bypass the low pressure side to completely get this out of the equation, used a 12v pump, attached hose to filter in and other end into a Jerry can of diesel, started pump checked fuel going into high pressure pump, lots of gushing out, so put fuel pipe back on and tried to start car, nothing just turns over but fails to start. So the high pressure pump is not producing enough pressure or the injectors aren’t opening and they won’t if the pressure isn’t there. I’m still wondering why the pressure regulator on the pump is constantly clicking with the ignition on. It wasn’t before I took it off to test it. But now it’s obviously getting a constant feed from somewhere?

Hi all an update for anyone interested, decided to remove high pressure fuel got to setting the timing up and noticed the marks would not align with the correct holes to put the pins in, I put the camshaft one in then crank wouldn’t fit etc, about two teeth out I would say. Anyway took belt off and aligned timing and put pins in while I’m waiting for the pump to arrive. My question now is firstly has the timing jumped causing the non start except with starter pilot or was the timing out already, then is this engine an interference fit or clearance fit engine?

What a job getting the high pressure pump off is, with the engine in situ, pain in the ass. Half the engine top half had to come off to access the high pressure pipe and the pump rear mounting bracket bolts. Got pump off now so waiting for new second hand pump to arrive, has come off a running car so fingers crossed. This pump I’ve rotated by hand and nothing comes out the high pressure pipe at all, it just spurts out the return or supply but nothing out of the high pressure pipe?

So another update guys which may or may not be relevant but I think it is, so the new second hand pump arrived today and I decided to turn the pulley by hand to see if it was the same as the one I took off, well guys the difference is immense. The one I took off turns very easily by hand, this one takes a massive effort to turn by hand and I wouldn’t say I’m a weak lad, quite strong I’d say, so either this is a good pump or it’s partially seized, we will see when it’s on.

Well fitted the new second hand pump, new cambelt and kit, checked timing all good, but I’m still getting the fuel cut off unavailable and immobiliser symbol on the dash, is there anything I need to do to reset this like a BSI reset or something, the fuel pressure regulator is constantly clicking as soon as I turn the ignition on so this is another fault that has developed since starting to try to repair the none start fault, but could be related all I know is I wasn’t getting it before but now I am.

So on it since 12:30 to 23:30 and it’s really doing my nut in, so connected lexia wouldn’t read any ecus, well not with the fuel pressure regulator constantly clicking, disconnected plug from the fuel pressure regulator to stop the clicking then it would read the engine ecu, but none of the others, also note when I disconnect the clicking regulator the fuel cut off unavailable disappears from the dash and so does the immobiliser symbol? Going to try connecting my car to it tomorrow to see if I have a battery issue aswell now.

So connected to my car to give battery abit of a boost but still with the regulator clicking like made I get immobiliser sign and fuel cut off on dash and no comms with any ecu using Lexia, using my expensive diag that I pay subscription on I can get comms with the bsi etc, but nothing with engine ecu if that fuel pressure regulator is connected, if I disconnect it then with my expensive diag I get comms with all ecus. Def think I have some electrical Gremlins. Fault codes in Engine ecu with Lexia are U1113 supplier fault code, U0431 Vehicle collision detection fault, P0001 fault fuel flow regulation but this is currently disconnected or I can’t read the engine ecu. P0193 Injection rail pressure sensor signal fault (note I changed the sensor and checked the voltages at this sensor previously during the original fault investigation. I think this is just because she won’t start so the pressure is not built up. So on to my expensive diag I have B1000 49 permanent ecu fault. The engine ecu has same faults as listed in Lexia, the BSI is listing B1053 86 Intermittent fault engine ecu supply cut off in event of an impact function, B1060 19 Permanent fault positive ignition on signal, short to ground, U1706 87 Permanent No communication with ABS or ESP, B1027 13 Permanent fault external temp sensor, U0426 31 intermittent fault incorrect immobiliser code sent by engine ecu to BSI no code sent by engine ecu. Upon erasing codes in the BSI I was left just with the outside temp fault, the codes would not erase in the engine ecu? Any direction from the experts please guys, we looking at an engine ecu issue?

So think I’m causing myself red herrings here, if there is no fuel pressure, then the fuel pressure regulator will be activating because it’s low pressure. So question is what would cause the fuel to not be pulled in to the pump, hence why I was looking at a fault with the transfer pump, but perhaps it’s something else, like a vacuum issue. I changed what they call the fuel harness the one with the primer bulb in it but perhaps it’s further back the issue? When I prime it with the bulb I have disconnected the pipe and fuel comes out, if I keep pumping I hear it gurgling back to the fuel tank?
