C2 Multi function display upgrade questions.
Hello.
I have a 2008 C2 with the RD4 radio (with the 6 grey buttons and the TA/PTY button) and the 'Type A' Multi Function Screen. I've never really been a fan of the mfd as although it's fairly big it doesn't really show much without having to press the end of the stalk all the time to cycle. I would like to be able to have more info on screen at once. I didn't think much of of untill I saw a few pics and videos of some late C2's on mainland Europe (I'm in the UK) having the 'Type C' display. I can't find much info on specs and options on non UK cars but was this mfd a standard fit?
Anyway, I saw a video on the tube which was an easy swop over from A to C as long as you have the rd4 radio so from 2005 onwards for most psa cars. So, I ordered a Type C display (from aliexpress, sorry!) and it's currently on route to me.......So then I start reading more into it (bit late now huh? lol) and come across a thread on these forums (great forum btw:P) regarding I think a C4 (I lost the thread) and upgrading from a to c and also going from rd4 to rd45. I read that this would need diagbox (sp?) to enable some features otherwise they wouldn't work etc. Then I started to read about lighting the car up like an xmas tree if it goes wrong and thought I'd better post and ask hehe.
So, will the C mfd work if I just plugged in in? The trip info? Not worried about bluetooth but would it need turning off with diagbox? Maybe at a later date I might get a new radio, a stock one like the RD43 if it would fit and be made to work? I like the look of that one. For now though I would just like a nicer looking screen. I can provide my VIN as I see you can extract a lot of info from it?
Anyway thanks for any help, much appreciated.

Re: C2 Multi function display upgrade questions.
The RD4 generally had a standard Type A display fitted, but the RD45 had a bluetooth module built in and were supplied with the Type C screen to support the additional functionality. An upgrade from RD4 to RD45 will need a Display type C with the appropriate software and configured of course.

Thanks. So can I still use the type c screen without getting the rd45 radio? Will it still function as before? without bluetooth of course.

Re: C2 Multi function display upgrade questions.
There shouldn't be any problems, but the screen will need configuring as it contains an ECU that actually controls the Head Unit. So you'll need a Lexia or a member with a kit to sort this for you.

OK thanks. Typical that wasn't mentioned in the video. Hopefully can get something back from ebaying it then.

Re: C2 Multi function display upgrade questions.
Hi. Sorry for double post. I've looked into this a bit more and have decided to get an rd45 radio at the end of the month and then find someone who has the equipment to set it all up in one go.
In the meantime what would be the worst case for plugging the new screen in without having it configured yet? Would it cause damage to it or the car?
Cheers!

Re: C2 Multi function display upgrade questions.
No damage, but functionality will likely be impaired. Some items that need configuring:
Type of connection between steering wheel controls and Display, temp. display option, Audio System type, Radio with Auto volume connected, CD Changer Option, Trip computer option, Sat Nav Option, Parking assistance Option, Telephone option, Overspeed warning, Language, Type of Control link,, No. of control buttons, type of control...

Re: C2 Multi function display upgrade questions.
Hi, thought i'd do a quick update. The type c display arrived today so I went out and installed it to make sure it works. Seems to be fine. All functions present and correct from previous type a with the only difference I can see is the bluetooth function which of course my rd4 radio doesn't support. I shall remedy this with a rd45 upgrade later then get it all configured correctly.
Cheers!
Cheers!

Re: C2 Multi function display upgrade questions.
Hello again!
Before I order anything else can I check that the screen I have is compatible with a future RD45 upgrade and that my car can happily work with everything it's supposed to when all configured correctly?
Plus the pic of the screen, is it new enough? I ordered it before joining these forum so please forgive my cheap chinese version! Thanks for any help

Hmmmm, that Chinese writing looks a bit ominous.... where did you get it from?
Usually from others here who have undertaken that upgrade on later cares the software version of the EMF C screen needs to be 7.1 or later - so can't say if that will cut it or not for sure.

It was from aliexpress as mentioned in first post. From a link on a youtube video where the guy swops out an A for a C on a 207.

Re: C2 Multi function display upgrade questions.
Apologies for raising a post from the dead, but did you end up having to do any reprogramming after installing the Type C display? Was it plug-and-play like what some people have reported? My C2 has a Type A display and an RD4 radio.BlueShamrock wrote: ↑10 May 2021, 15:26 Hi, thought i'd do a quick update.
