Even if you could get away with putting diesel in the Eolys tank I doubt very much you could get anywhere near a year before the filter needed cleaning out.

The Eolys allows the DPF to burn off the accumulated soot particles at a lower temperature than other systems which don't use Eolys (VW, Ford Vauxhall, etc) so I'm not at all sure that any burning off would happen (if you do decide to do this I'd love to know). If there's no burning off the DPF would fill up very soon - possibly a matter of weeks if you cover high mileages,

Just seen your second post - if the tank is totally empty the Eolys pump may now be knackered if it's been trying to pump non-existent fluid.

I'm amazed the car was even driveable.

In a word no!

Without the additive the carbon produced by the engine will be harder to burn and build up faster. I also suspect that it will also be harder to blast out with a pressure washer, might require burning out. You may also find that the "variable geometry " bits of the turbo also seize up due to the kind of carbon produced.

Hello, you can help me in determining the type of additive used in my car. According to my RPO No. 11126, IOL says that the EOLYS 176 is used, but the hose connectors in the tank should be green, but I have the white color that corresponds to the type of additive DPX 42 and not i know what to believe ????
The car is CITROEN C5 HDI since 2007, 1997 cc
VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Thank you.

Same dilema with me...

Ok, so this isn't going to be much help, as no blue or green click fit would seem to indicate that it is EOLYS DPX42 that you need. Because this additive can't be mixed with any of the others, I won't suggest one of the later replacement types. You are correct about the RPO - but the notes are quite clear - no green or blue click-fit, then DPX42.

So the best option is to double check with the main dealer and see what they say if you tell them that you have a white click fit and see what they say.

I know it doesn't help much - the whole additive area is a disgraceful state of affairs for a company like PSA who invented the damned DPF! The advice (if you can call it that) is very unclear.

C5 HDi 240 says additive level too low. Is there a guide how to fill up for C5 X7 if I order eolys (176?) from ebay? I've got diagbox so I can reset eolys counter.

Actually there is a way of determining which fluid to use. The firmware level of the engine ecu changed with the introduction of 176 the part number of the EOLYS injection computer also changed. So if you have a Lexia checking firmware should be a doddle, visual inspection for part number of the EOLYS ECU should'nt be too difficult. Now I no longer have a C5 and the info I need is not to hand, however I suspect that Marc (Givemeabreak) might be able to extract the details from the relevant Infodiags date some where between 2001 2005which was as I remember where I saw it..

He has an X7 Tony and these are quite different to the older MKI and some MKII systems.

For the correct fluid, either check the click fit connector colour, or check with the dealer with your VIN. Then order the filling kit and instructions should be included, but fairly simple.

Access from rear left wheel arch, after removing cover.

Gravity feed with overfill bottle. Just make sure you wear goggles and some latex gloves as the additive is not very pleasant.

The you should find the relevant option in either the repair menu or the engine ECU configuration options to reset the counter. There should be one there to add or top up additive fluid. Just follow the instructions exactly.
