406 2.1td clutch

Post by mark21td »

Hi all,
I need to replace the clutch on my 406 2.1 td but have you seen the price of them,
so I've been thinking as the 110 HDI uses the same gearbox and is the same power can any of the parts be swapped, ie plate, pressure plate as these are the expencive bits.
Thanks in advance
Mark

What do you call expensive?? I would only fit a quality O/E clutch kit that is recommended for a 2.1 .I`m sure your model is pre DMF? (and they ARE expensive), an O/E cover/plate/bearing kit from Euro or GSF should cost about £100. Its a lot of work to replace the clutch so not worth the chance with "cheepo" parts.

Absolutely so. Use the best quality always. been there with cheap ones. Not good

Stick with Valeo or LUK.

I understand what you're saying, however the car has done 175K and is getting old and tatty, so I can't see me keeping it for that much longer.
GSF have quoted £120 + vat
Eurocarparts £137 + vat
Ebay seller is £63.99 all in (hadn't found this at time of original post)
I don't have the funds at the mo (thing always go wrong at the wrong time  ) so I just can't afford to spend that sort of money tacking into account oil and oil seals.

The 110 Hdi uses a DMF so I doub't the clutch is the same.

That`s a big difference in price! BUT...The GSF/Euro one will be over the counter, quality, and will be the correct part fully guaranteed. The E Bay one will turn up by post from who knows where, wont know if its correct untill you unpack it and will probably be a crap Chinese rebuilt part.Six to Seven hours graft and all you would save is £80? Not worth the effort.
