C5 standard fit parking sensors.

Post by Citroenmad »

I was driving a 56 plate C5 'Exclusive' yesterday which has the standard fit front and rear parking sensors. I quite like the display which appears on the central screen which uses a visual and audible warning to gauge the distance.

I have considered fitting sensors to the back of my C5 and to our estate too, as the facelift C5s have the bumper holes (albeit filled with caps) for parking sensors but as both are VTR trim levels neither have sensors. I thought since it has the holes I might as well spec it up and fit them.

Is it possible, if the correct Citroen sensors are purchased, to work magic on a Lexia to turn on the audio and visual parking aid warnings?

I don't know if its possible to get a kit from Citroen, but my facelift C5 has sensors that were fitted by the Dealer soon after supply (long before I owned it) and they are not as from the factory. A little speaker has been fitted to the bit of plastic where the roller blind sits, right behind the passanger's ear. They don't work properly and don't tie in the the rest of the car.
I can see in the facelift menu where to turn the real parking sensors on and off but this has no effect on the ones I have. I wonder if they are easier to fit or more profit making for a Dealer?

The aftermarket kits just connect to the reversing light supply, so a Lexia will have no effect. Are there connectors present for the genuine sensors? The system requires some additional circuitry to work, though, which may not be fitted. (It could be done in software, but I doubt it, somehow).

The park assist system on the mk2 C5 has its own ECU as well but dont know if the wiring is present on models without.

Chris,

I looked into this 2 years ago. I remember the parts being somewhere in the region of £500 for the parking sensor ECU and 4 sensors.

:o  :!:

In that case I think ill leave it without

Im more than used to reverse parking it close to things, I just fancied the extra spec since the facelift C5s all have wholes for the sensors already in the lower rear bumpers.

That is quite an extortionate cost.

Our 52 plate C5 had aftermarket rear parking sensors, they did work very well and made reversing even more of a doddle.

These are a doddle to fit as the holes are slightly larger than the ones already in your bumper. Shop round and you might find it cheaper.

Thanks Ben, I might look into getting a set of those.

30cm parking gap, that is not close enough for parking at our house

Trust me, you can get closer. Wait til constant tone and then a little blip more on the clutch and you can't ask to be any nearer.

I guess 30cm is a good distance for the measurement to stop as not everyone is going to have lightning quick reactions and stop the car immediately.

Thats good to know, 30cm is close enough in most cases.

Its the wiring in bit that I wouldn't like to do.
