Diagbox & Win10 ?

Post by max1 »

Hi, I have windows 10 64bit running & have just bought a lexia kit which is recision C full chip. I want to use it on my Pug 207, 2009 model.

Will the diagbox 7.83 software that comes with it work ok on my 64bit machine ? As I understand it should be ok for my car as it's a 2009 model ?

Thanks for any help

No, it requires the 32-bit installation.

Not sure that's true Steve. I think it depends on whether the car needs native Diagbox or whether Diagbox launches PP2000 in order to do the code reading. I was under the impression that Diagbox itself would run in a 64 bit environment. No direct experience, just from what I have read.

Could be Paul - everything I have read contradicts that unfortunately.

Marc will know when he logs in though.

The issue is a grey area. For some it will work, but not for others. It's a matter of trying it and see. There is the issue of how your system boots (MBR or GPT, the specs, drivers and other factors). But drivers may also be an issue and the version of Diagbox used. They did testing some 64 bit drivers a few years ago that would of been included in later versions of Diagbox - so depends on your software version - BUT, this brings issues with using newer versions of Diagbox on older cars, where the firmware may need to be downgraded / upgraded all the time.

However, as said, if you ever need to use the Lexia or Peugeot Planet 2000 encapsulated software versions then NO. these will not work natively on 64 bit systems - unless you start using virtual machines - which I'm not going into that again here.

One of the things to consider is that Diagbox is VERY messy software, it creates files everywhere, and so it is always better to use a dedicated laptop for diagnostics - Windows 7 32 bit is fine, but if you already have a 64 bit Win 10 laptop, just try it and see.

Hmm, ok thanks for the info I see where your coming from Marc. The car needs Diagbox & not PP2000. Which is preferable, MBR or GPT ? Do you happen to know what diagbox software version includes the 64 bit drivers? The potential issue with older firmware required for older cars looks like it could be a bit of a minefield & this is added to an already complicated process!

Tempted to just use a VM but i do know & have read about your concerns regarding this Marc. Having said that though I know MikeT here uses Oracle VM without issue.

Will have to have a think about it.

Thanks

If you have the option (when installing Diagbox), only install it up to version 7.58, as there are 'issues' with the later versions.

The issues with the VM can be the USB pass through. No 2 installations are the same because invariably the hardware and systems will be different from one user to the other. Windows 10 and and 64 bit UEFI systems and the GPT can affect Diagbox and specifically the activation process, resulting in either the dreaded code ‘0’ error or activation issues.

I think rather than speculate, as it could work perfectly for you, :-D

BUT...... as you have W10 64 bit, if you have the Pro version, you can use Hyper V and set up a VM, install Win 7 on that and stick Diagbox on that. This will keep your main laptop free of all the crud and folders that the installation creates. Plus you can always restore from a checkpoint if it goes toes up,

Just a thought or two.

Thanks Marc. I decided to use a win7 laptop in the end. I have 7.02 installed ok, I will update to 7.58 as advised earlier.

The install instructions that i have don't mention anything about turning windows firewall or any antivirus off. Should I disable these? Throughout the install process so far the "windows firewall has blocked.... " message has popped up quite a few times but i have just been allowing the connection (internet is off).

Thanks

Allow ALL firewall connections through - essential!
Make sure your network adapter is on (enabled) but do not allow an active connection.
Turn off temporarily your antivirus.
