C5 silent radio

Post by faddy »

Radio on my C5 has never worked since I bought the car in June, the display shows it hunting for stations but it's completely silent, no hiss. CD player works, albeit a bit temperamentally. Is the problem likely to be in the aerial amplifier, or would it be hissing if that were the case?

It’s a possibility that the tuner has given out. I suspect if it was aerial related you would of noticed deterioration in sound quality over time, especially if it was as a result of water ingress into the aerial base.

Having said that, I have seen a few aerial bases from a MKI C5 that have have rusting electronics in the aerial
base.

Have you tried removing the head unit and checking the aerial has connection not come loose?

The radio's been silent for all of the few months that I've owned the car, so I don't know whether it deteriorated or failed suddenly. How easy is it to remove the head unit?

Quite easy - I had mine out a while back.
Use a thin-bladed but blunt knife or spatula to release the two trim sections around the buttons either side of the unit then there are (IIRC) four cross head or torx screws holding it in.
